Just a place to rest your head

Our room was cute and spotless, but quite small and not well laid out. The breakfast was continental style. The facilities satisfactory and the location was a bit out of town. The nearby harbor town of delightful and well worth a visit.

Horrible

Had a horrible experience: Was told a room with 2 beds was available and then when we arrived exhausted, we were led to a room with one queen bed and told the rooms with 2 beds had been booked for months. The solution was to offer us a bunk in another "room" which was a tiny unheated office and I made the bunk myself because the manager said she had a bad back.
Also charged $20 more than quoted over the phone.
And it all would have been fine if the management hadn't been so aggressively hostile when questioned. She called the police because she "didn't like our attitude"
I mean CRA-ZY!!
Terrible.

Convenient and pleasant inn with delightful host

My husband and I stayed with Fran during the Lobster Festival (in Rockland) in August. In addition to a comfortable room, the location was convenient and the breakfast room was pleasant with Fran's home-baked muffins and other delights. We thoroughly enjoyed our delightful host, Fran, who had tons of personality and was very friendly and accommodating. We're from Mississippi, used to friendly people, and happy to find a friendly host so far from our home. We've talked about Fran, in a good way, several times since we left.

Very disappointed. Much better options elsewhere.

My family and I stayed at the Black Horse over a weekend in June. Our room was very dated and not particularly clean (carpet & counter stains, the room had a musty smell, etc). I requested another room and there was availability, but only for a higher price. The staff at the front desk would not move us unless we paid the higher rate. Unbelievable! That is just poor customer service. To make matters worse, the front desk staff were not very nice and very dismissive of my concerns. There are many other nicer and friendlier accommodation options in the Camden/Lincolnville area. I would recommend other places especially for the price I paid.

Accommodations During Lobster Festival

Stayed here two nights while in the area for Lobster Festival. Room was clean and everything worked fine. We were in Room 7 , and there was an ice machine outside the door. This kept the outer hallway hot all day and woke us up several times every time a batch of ice dumped into the hopper. You might want to avoid that room for your best night's sleep. We'd stay there again.
