Don't use the hotel taxi driver , because he rips you off! He is a rude man.
It is disappointing that I have to warn people to avoid. We have had a lovely time, but the hotel taxi driver ripped us off and was rude and aggressive to us. The driver has a large white mini bus and took us into Bridgetown the day before we left. We booked him for the following day at 5.30pm for the airport and he told us that it was 25 Barbados dollars to take us to the airport. We said at the time that this was good value as we had paid a private taxi 34Barbados Dollars. We assumed that it was cheaper as it was part of the hotel. He didn't disagree.
When we went to him at 5.20pm for the airport, he seemed to have forgotten that he was taking us. He explained that he had to wait for 6 other guests.
We asked if he would leave at 5.30pm as we needed to get our flight.
The hotel receptionist was kind and checked that he would be leaving on time. We explained that we would have been happy to take another private cab. He left at 5.30pm when the other customers got in the minibus.
There were eight of us in the mini bus. But he charged two couples 25BBD , then charged ourself and another couple 50BBD. (Yes we were charged double) for the same ride!
We queried this and reminded him that he had told us it was 25BBD , he then said that it was American dollars. (He had not! )
He said up to four people cost 50BBD. We explained that there had been eight of us! At this point he threw our 50BBD back at us. We said we didn't want a free ride, just to pay the 25BBD that he had agreed and what he had charged the two other couples.
In the end he agreed to give us 10BBD back. But continued to argue causing a scene at the airport and embarrassed us, we walked away.
We complained to the hotel Manager by email, who did not address his attitude or his behaviour in her response. Whilst she said that the 25BBD should have been honoured, she said that the fare is 50BBD.
She did not explain why four people paid 25BBD and the other four paid 50BBD, nor did she offer a refund.
She also said that there are other taxi drivers in Barbados which should not prevent us from returning to the hotel . She clearly misunderstood that he is a representative of the hotel and a reflection on them.
We have been to Barbados twice before, and we have never been ripped off in government taxis. We don't expect this from the hotel taxi!!
The rest of the staff have been amazing. We have no complaints whatsoever, but we will not return again, due to the behaviour of this awful man and the indifferent response from the Manager.

We were at the Studio apartement 306 for two nights. The room was bigh enough with a nice sea view veranda, as advertised. The bed was very large and comfortable. Sleeping quality was good. The nearby beach was beautiful. So far the positives. The front desk lady was cold as ice, no smile, not a word more than was necessary. The restaurant on the premises served average food at a high price and a very slow service. The room service took one hour to bring a sandwich. The toilet seat was damaged and could not be used. It was replaced later. The fridge was leaking so much water, that we had to use a towel from the bathroom. The wifi dropped constantly. They really have to work on service quality and on maintenance.

We had a one bedroom apartment at Blue Orchids Beach Hotel for 7 nights. The location is great, Carribean Sea is right outside. We had a patio with a view of the Carribean Sea. The rooms are clean and well maintained even through some elements are a little outdated. We had air conditioning and a fully equipped kitchen. It is quiet at night, only the Sea waves and the Barbados Whistling Frogs you can hear during the night, which is actually really nice. We booked this hotel through British Airways. The hotel staff was always smiling and ready to help. There is also a small swimming pool outside. There is a small lovely beach. There is also a restaurant and bar. We had breakfast there every morning and was really good. We had once also our lunch at the restaurant and was very good and the price was decent. There are also plenty of restaurants and bars in the proximity. A supermarket and a duty-free shop are located only a 3-4 minutes walk from Blue Orchids.

location perfect, near to 2 big supermarkets. self catering apartments. 15 min walk to saint Lawrence gap, quiet at night. quite expensive to eat out, we made our own breakfast and lunch. ate out every night on the strip. we were with another couple and hired a jeep and went all around the island in one day. we also went to grolsh street friday party, highly recommend really enjoyed. the beaches were powder white sands perfect. we were here sept 27 2014 only now getting around to writing. we booked with virgin what a bargain we had.

Great location wonderful staff beach is right at my finger tips close to some of the finest restaurants and close to grocery stores one can't go wrong with staying here at blue orchid hotel rooms are really breathe taking and ill be looking to stay here again pretty soon.
