What People are saying

Beautiful Bay View and Convenient to Downtown

Ira Lon 29/06/2017 20:02

I read all the reviews and Bluebeard's Castle was as expected. Perched high above Charlotte Amalie's bay on well maintained grounds. It is an older resort with a nice pool and great views of the bay of Charlotte Amalie and surrounding hills. Not too difficult to walk downhill to town but VERY difficult to walk up. We took taxis to beautiful Magens Bay beach (our favorite) and to Coral Park next to Coki beach. Most taxi rides are $8 to $10 per person each way. No need to rent a car, particularly because they drive on the opposite side of the road like crazy people on VERY narrow roads.. Also took day trip by ferry (nice beach) to St. John's. Ferry ride to St. John is approx. 25 minutes from the downtown Pier. Trip by cable car to Paradise Point was worthwhile, but the restaurant at the top is not great. Even though prices for everything are significantly higher than the states, restaurants onsite were very good and comparable in price for comparable meals at home in Birmingham. Small convenience store on site had all the breakfast stuff we needed, so we only had lunch and dinner outside our room. This was a timeshare exchange for us and we were assigned a studio with tiny kitchen area, but that was sufficient. No comfortable chairs in the room. Be advised that many of the units have no views of anything desirable to look at. Ours was in front literally sharing a wall with the castle (138) and we had a decent view in front of the resort and a partial view of the bay and downtown. Used workout room once; not bad. Except for one surely manager on duty when we checked in on Sunday, all the staff was friendly and quick to please; e.g. towel exchanges. We had one day of room cleaning and linen change. Overall, we enjoyed it and you will too.

Great for a family just getting off a sailboat.

This is a decent place for people looking to unwind and clean up after being out on a sailboat. Price was good and there was the option of having 2 separate rooms, for sleeping separate from the children. Bonus was 2 bathrooms and a mini kitchen. The pool is small but good enough for cool dip or for the kids to play in as you have a drink poolside. Several good dining options on the property, a small shop for necessities and you may rent a car through the desk onsite. The rooms are good for spreading out and hanging up everything wet and sandy from a boat trip. A table was good for playing games on in the evening. The bed was a bit firm for my taste, the pull out couch was very very very poor. Good thing the kids were dog tired and didn't notice. Our friends ended up in one of the "condo units" with a washer and dryer! When traveling with kids, a washer and dryer are good as gold. Yes the place looks like it is cracking at the seems, ? we never did get pool towels?? and many people with mobility issues were seen struggling with the level changes and slope of the whole property. But being up on the side of the hill is how you get the view! Being able bodied we enjoyed all the different levels, the kids found the canons and nicknacks interesting and we were able to walked into town for shopping and several meals.

Historic property? The rooms definitely are!

Yes the views are amazing. And so is the location.

The rooms are in dire need of updates. Not looking for bells and whistles but at least make sure what you have is maintained and not in a state of disrepair. Floor tiles were cracked in multiple places. Ceiling in verandah leaked every time in rained. Counter space at the kitchenette is non-existent. the pull-out sofa bed was the worst I have ever come across. TV remotes did not work. Room keys had to be rekeyed multiple times because they did not work.

Note to management. If you are not providing daily housekeeping you need to let guest know how and where to dispose of garbage from the room should they need to. Any call to front desk for housekeeping issues resulted in multiple calls to remind them. Something as simple as pool towels meant a long wait for them. I am sure they can do better, they are complacent and do not want to.

The Castle It's Self Is Pretty Nice. Stood There 3 Nights With My Wife Nancy, Front Desk Receptionist Workers And manager Wasn't Very Helpfull She Recommended to Send House Keeping to Spray The Room While We Was In There 👎🏻👎🏻 Because We Woke Up To A WaterBug In The Room. Cab Drivers & Marcus Who helped Us Out With Everything Was Great! Another Thing that Stood Out To Us Was The Service And Hospitality From The Pool Bar Every Morning. Great Prices, Best Local Food Around, Even Better Than Banana Tree And Room With A View Rest. Make Sure You Check Chef And Owner Of The Restaurant MICHEAL!.

THE BANANA TREE GRILL

paulenewellon 16/06/2017 06:28

At the end of a 10 day bare-boat sailing trip, we stayed for 2 nights at Bluebeard's Castle. This time, we had dinner both nights at the Banana Tree Grill. After dinner on our first night, we stopped at their cozy, intimate bar for a night cap and met Brian, their master bartender. Dinner was excellent, and Brian's bar is a great place for an after dinner drink. We returned the next evening, and we decided to eat at the bar, which turned out to be a great idea. Once again, the food was great and Brian provided great drinks. When their piano player started playing on the nearby Baby Grand piano, we almost didn't want to leave, but we had an early flight the next morning, so we had to tear ourselves away.

I must also mention Jason, who runs the pool bar during the day, where you can get breakfast and lunch all day. Once again, great food and drink served up by a very attentive Jason !

Altogether, a great place to hang out after 10 days on the water !
