Aggressive timeshare salespeople and tripping hazards wherever we turned

Carol757 on 16/11/2017 23:34

My husband and I recently spent a weekend at Shenandoah Crossing in order to attend a wedding in the area. Although we are timeshare owners elsewhere and regularly exchange through RCI, we chose to just book via the resort's website since we were only staying for a weekend. So, imagine my surprise when, on the day before we were supposed to arrive, I received a really aggressive phone call about confirming my stay and trying to convince me to attend a timeshare presentation while we were there.

I explained that 1) we already own two weeks elsewhere and have no desire to purchase at another resort and 2) our time was fully committed to the wedding. At that point, the woman who called became extremely insistent about knowing the name of the bride and groom so that, allegedly, if any other wedding guests arrived, the resort would know. I politely told her that no one else from the event would be staying at the resort; my husband and I had deliberately chosen to not stay at the same hotel as the rest of the family attending the event because 1) we wanted a quieter place to stay and 2) we like having the space and kitchen facilities of a timeshare unit. She kept pushing, and it was clear that she was one of those salespeople who force you to be infinitely ruder than you want to be in order to get them off the phone. I was at work, and I didn't want my coworkers to hear me telling her what I wanted to, so I made up a name just to get her off the phone.

So, it was disappointing when we checked in and were directed to another desk to pick up a parking pass, only to encounter yet another salesperson who was incredibly aggressive in trying to get me to attend the presentation. That time I really did have to be rude.

With that said, we enjoyed the resort during our short stay and stayed well away of the reception area and the pushy salespeople. Our cabin was freshly remodeled and quite cozy. The resort seems to be remodeling all of the cabins. I know this because, when we went to leave for our event on Saturday, the contents of the cabin next to ours was piled up at the foot of the small path that led from the street to our cabin. I really enjoyed having to pick my way, in high heels and my best dress, through old furniture, picture frames, lamps, and appliances in order to get to me car. Fortunately, it was all gone when we returned later that night. I can't imagine what it would have been like to try to navigate through it all in the dark.

The next morning, we packed up to leave and opened our front door, only to trip over a canvas bag full of fresh linens (presumably for the cleaning crew after we'd checked out) that has been placed directly in front of our front door instead of anywhere else on the cabin deck.

It's really a shame that our brief experience there was marred by truly some of the most obnoxious timeshare salespeople I have ever encountered (and I say that as someone who's stayed in close to 30 timeshares in recent years) and the tripping hazards that the resort's maintenance and cleaning crews chose to place in our way at every turn. The resort itself is lovely. We enjoyed seeing the horses in their pasture. There was a full schedule of activities on the calendar we were given and, if we hadn't already had plans, we would have loved to have gone to a lecture on the history of the area that was listed.

Exceptional RV Resort Setting

Made 3x reservations at the RV Resort on short notice. Jason was outstanding at grouping the three families together. Beautiful is an understatement for this location. It is stunning. It is quiet. It is peaceful. Each of the three sites was “Elite” and consisted of a Weber grill, fire pit, high quality grilling utensils and ver nice outdoor furniture including a dining table with 8 chairs and two chaise loungers. Check in was perfect, thanks to Lauren, and extremely helpful young professional at the check in desk. The concierge was also quite helpful with our parking pass and WiFi details in addition to a tempting offer to join a preview of the vacation properties. We passed. The landscaping was beautiful at each site. The sites themselves were nice concrete pads with a concrete patio. The pads were not very level, so those with an auto level feature on their rigs might find the entry stairs either quite high or low depending on how you are facing. This was true of each of the three sites. We were in a 42’ Toyhauler FW. The pedestals for power water and cable were in perfect position for an easy hookup as was the sewer. The indoor pool and hot tub was quite clean as was the lodge as a whole. Bath houses were impeccable. The property is extremely well kept. The arcade was large and offered a variety of games to play. There are staff in the arcade who host various crafts for a small fee. One small misunderstanding happened when my daughter was asked to come the next day between 2 and 3 pm to make a stuffed animal. When we showed at the appointed time my daughter was turned away because they were out of the animals to stuff despite being shown a bin with many many animals available. We will make it next time hopefully. Not sure what happened but the staff were always always incredibly friendly, polite and professional even when faced with having to share unfortunate news. The equestrian center was in short, “awesome.” Excellent opportunity for a horse ride. There are several well marked trails which we thoroughly enjoyed. The general store was well stocked with food items and speciality needs of an RV lifestyle. Bought a coffee mug but did wish they had some hoodies or sweatshirts for sale. They had t-shirts when it was 20-49 degrees outside. No matter, the young gal behind the counter was exceptionally helpful and witty. Probably the most friendly of all the friendly people on staff. The Yurts looked brand new and the cabins looked beautiful from the outside although we did not stay in either. Overall, aside from not being able to stuff an animal and my Weber grill being out of propane, Shenandoah Crossing hit a home run for my family and friends and we are absolutely excited to return. Thank you for a relaxing weekend- exactly what camping should be.

Weekend Wedding

Shenandoah Crossing Resort is a beautiful area, the stables, scenery, the RV area & cottages. It is great for family reunions. The staff was nice & helpful. However, the accommodations in the lodge need some work. The room was clean and bed was comfortable but the room was lacking a bit, bathroom needed some work and the walls were paper thin. If you ate a light sleeper as me, every noise will wake you. Also, we could hear everything outside & next door conversations.
Other than that, it was a nice stay. The restaurant / bar in the lodge should open for breakfast instead of having to go all the way to the grocery store were food is pretty limited. We had nice dinner at the lodge so not sure why they don’t open for breakfast or have a buffet. Overall good & little bad it was a nice stay.

Lovely place in everyway

We stayed in the lodge and our stay was wonderful. The room was small but it was unimportant because the grounds are so beautiful who would want to spend time in a room! Our room was comfortable, spotless and affordable. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. We were with a group of 10 and everyone loved their stay. Our only complaint is there should be some kind of breakfast served at the lodge. It could be very simple and easy. If the country store was within walking distance that may have made it slightly better but it is not. Therefore if you want food you have to get into your car and drive to a store. Also, there was not a microwave in our room.
