Two fantastic weeks
Maumax70on 07/08/2017 14:20If your number one priority when booking a holiday is the size and luxuriousness of your room then this is not the resort for you. In all other respects, however, the Alana Beach Club really delivers. This was our fourth Neilson holiday and by far my favourite resort. Yes, the rooms are somewhat basic and the bathrooms on the small side, but this was more than made up for by the rest of the resort, in particular the large and spacious outdoor dining area, excellent kit and facilities and beautiful setting.
The whole resort is spotlessly clean and all the staff are professional, friendly and polite. Both our children LOVED being in the kids club – so much so that it was hard to drag them out for some 'family time'.
The quality and variety of the food was also top notch - having read some of the earlier reviews I did have a few reservations, but any teething troubles appear to have been resolved.
What I most liked about Alana is that it doesn't feel crowded. When not taking part in the various activities we spent most of our time tucked under a shady tree just inches from the sea in a secluded spot on the beach.
The small town of Starigrad is a short stroll away and the beautiful Paklenica National Park is a 20 minute walk and well worth a visit, especially the caves. We also booked up for trips to Zadar and Plitvice Lakes, both of which I would strongly recommend.
Yes, the accommodation at Alana is more basic than at other Neilson resorts but surely the whole point of these holidays is to be out and about and enjoying the huge range of activities on offer rather than holed up in your room stressing about the size of the shower cubicle.
Help ....
murrays007blueon 06/08/2017 23:54Oh dear ..if Beirut did holidays ! Neilson, you have let us all down. After 4 Neilson holidays, this will be our last. 10 in the party , all disappointed to put it mildly. Hygiene alone would have been nice, if not expected. The fact we paid for this is unbelievable . The accommodation and food is atrocious. Staff are doing their best however given the number complaining. DO NOT GO HERE. AVOID. Wish we were there!
Lovely holiday here in Alana Beachclub
janetnorrison 06/08/2017 18:00Its a real shame that some people aren't happy with this resort!!
We are here now and having a great time, this is our 6th Neilson holiday and we chose here because it offered us another Country to visit and a new experience, climbing in the National Park.
We haven't had any problems with staff, they have all been friendly and helpful. All the activity teams are very hard working and deliver an excellent level of service along with bar and restaurant staff. All the equipment is new and plentiful so you don't have to wait long to get out and enjoy yourselves. I booked the holiday in December and booked apartments, they were the same price as the rooms at that time. The apartment is spacious with a bathroom, bedroom, kitchenette and sofa area.
Don't be put off by negative reviews try it for yourselves!!!😃
Oh dear Neilson you have let us down!
Penny Gon 02/08/2017 10:16As veteran Neilson customers we have enjoyed many of the resorts and know the high quality the company normally delivers. We were excited to visit a new country and looking forward to our holiday - unfortunately on day 3 we are, for the first time ever with Neilson, disappointed.
We booked the holiday in January - paying the extra for a premium room . Sadly in May my husband was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, so I called to check that the room we had booked would be suitable for our changed circumstances and was assured it was. How wrong they were!!
Whoever designated our room as "premium" was having a laugh! We can hardly walk around the bed, there is no storage, and the bathroom is a joke - the smallest shower ever with a shabby shower curtain - not nice! As my husband is now disabled , it is even more difficult for us,
On arrival (late from Manchester) we had to endure a queue to check in, then to be told there was no lift to our room and we had to struggle with our bags up the stairs. My husband can not move his arms, so it was left to my daughter and myself- not a good start to an expensive holiday!
John the customer service manager was very helpful in trying to resolve the problems, but we have not been able to move rooms as all the people on the earlier Stansted flight who had the same complaints have taken the bigger rooms. So all we can do is struggle on, which is a great shame as we pay a lot for these holidays and feel very let down.
Neilson, I will be seeking compensation.
To anyone who has booked a premium room - bring as little as you can, and certainly don't bring the cat - no space to swing it !!!!!
Great holiday but hotel sadly lacking
neil don 31/07/2017 14:45After 10+ Neilson holidays at numerous places you get used to the "Neilson style" holiday.
My opinion of our holiday is as follows:
Excellent - Tennis, sailing, Windsurfing equipment & Mountain Bikes, Hotels Sky Bar, Most Neilson staff
Good - Food in general
Poor - Hotel accommodation (rooms are clean but basic, bathrooms tiny). Lifts in hotel are old, slow and very noisy at night (you really don't not want a room by them). Mountain Bike guiding was not what it was cracked up to be. More thought, effort and imagination from the bike guides is needed.
Windsurfing is for low intermediate only. From the stats it doesn't generally blow 3-4 in the afternoons.
I love going on Neilson holidays however will be looking at one of their other resorts next time.
