Vacation
Leon Don 15/06/2017 01:04My family and I really enjoyed our vacation trip in Hilton Head while staying at Bluewater Resort. We visited here 3 times but were never allowed to stay here on our timeshare tour. The first time we stayed we were placed at a very traditional older hotel/resort. The next time we stayed at Waterside Resort which was a little better on the beach side or the island. Finally after buying, we were able to stay at the resort. I mentioned this because a couple I met while at Bluewater were allowed to stay at the resort before attending their timeshare presentation and afterwards they told us they didn't buy. However, their reasoning was based on the representative so I guess I was feeling some type of way about all of that. Needless to say, our stay was very relaxing, my kids enjoyed the activities especially basketball. Our unit was in the new building and very spacious like it was when we toured here last time (year). Nothing negative about our stay and we will be back. Thank you Bluewater staff!
Put the Hurricane Behind Them
AscDacon 09/06/2017 21:32The 2016 Hurricane Matthew wreaked damage to the entire island. Many venues are still recovering. This resort has quickly jumped on the problem and is as viable as ever. The pools, new dock, rooms, other facilities and the grounds look pristine. The staff is friendly, helpful, and considerate. The rooms are a pleasure to stay in even on an inclement day. Nice job Bluewater.
Great place to relax
Kvette513on 09/06/2017 00:48The location is on the intercoastal waterway so it is great to watch the boats go by or to take out a kayak yourself. The lazy river is perfect for leisurely floating in the water. It is just over the bridge when you get onto the island so you can avoid traffic when you want to. If you go down to the dock you can hear the music from the restaurant next door without dealing with the crowds. It is a beautiful place.
Not Wheelchair Friendly
DisabledTravelerSKMon 03/06/2017 20:52We booked this resort because it has 3 bedroom wheelchair access. My husband is paralyzed and cannot walk. I spent weeks with II and the resort making sure we had a wheelchair accessible unit. I was told repeatedly that we were booked in a wheelchair room with a roll in shower. Management did not know the difference between wheelchair and handicapped. Our 2 bedroom unit (yes, booked 3 bedroom, then was told it wasn't available, so they put us in a 2 bedroom which meant I wouldn't have the extra room for our CNA to travel with us) had the necessary handrails and 17" toilet, but that was all. The shower had a 5" lip that took away space near the toilet for the wheelchair, hence a transfer from a wheelchair to the toilet was impossible. Kitchen counters were so high even my 6'4" husband who sits tall in a wheelchair couldn't eat at. No foot room when feet are on a foot rest, so wheelchair was 12"+ away from counter. No eye hole at wheelchair height for front door...and..and..and
Upon addressing this with the front desk, we were told the computer said it was a wheelchair room. Unfortunately they only had a 1 bedroom available. I did not want to spend my vacation on the sofa, but after one night of terrible experiences (falling on the toilet, breaking the seal, ending up with a bruised back) for my husband, I grudgingly agreed to look at the 1 bedroom. Then was told it didn't have a roll in shower either. When Chesley arrived with the keys to the 1br I shared with her the reasons the 2br didn't work and why the 1 br really was wheelchair friendly. She immediately had the computer information changed and educated the woman in charge of reservations what the difference was between handicapped and wheelchair units.
They still need to work on issues like kitchen dishes and glasses, ironing board and iron, and handheld shower at wheelchair height. While I could reach everything for him, he had no independence. More handicapped parking spots are needed.
The front desk takes all calls. So if you need housekeeping, they decide whether you can have them. My husband had an accident and the bedding needed changed. Kerry told me no housekeeping in the middle of the week or they would charge me extra. I must wash my own bedding. Really? This is a vacation. Also, towels and beach towels are your responsibility with only one laundry packet. Also, if you get locked out after 11:00 there is no one at the front desk. You must drive across the island over the toll bridge to get duplicate keys...that's an hour late at night and it was raining that night!
If you want more than one pot of coffee during your week stay, or more than two rolls of toilet paper, or one roll of paper towels, or more than 3 dishwasher packets, 1 laundry packet...you must buy it. Grocery stores don't carry small anything! Guest service is awful. I bought 200 coffee filters, the smallest coffee container I only used less than 1/4 of, laundry detergent too heavy to pack with us...had to throw away when we left.
We have been timeshare owners for more than 20 years. Motel 6 does better with amenities than BW. No snacks or water or pop machines. Nothing resort quality at the pool. Can't get a cup of coffee anywhere on the resort.
Pros?!? Wonderfully comfortable beds! Spacious rooms! Nice deck overlooking the pool. Clean. Chesley! (Kerry was rude on many occasions.) Elevator broke down the day before we left stranding us in our unit. They were prompt getting it fixed. Chesley worked tirelessly getting us comfortable. We ended up with two units so I could sleep in a normal bed...hence my husband having an accident the first night... that being the first night in 7 years since his paralysis he slept with no one to call out to. But we adjusted. I just want people to know what they need to ask for if they are disabled. I thought I had done my homework, but evidently I needed to pursue issues further before exchanging my timeshare for BW.
Spring Break
kmorkrid53on 29/05/2017 23:13The pool was fantastic and kept very clean. The living room furniture needs to be replaced. Saggy and uncomfortable . Beds and pillows were excellent.
Very nice accommodations other than sofas and chair.
