The website photos aren't photoshopped. The water is crystal clear. The walkways are beautifully sun washed.
Service from most staff was excellent. Alicia in the concierge went out of her way to help us make activity plans that suited our likes. She was bubbly and thoughtful.
We had some challenges with the glass sliding door ìn our OWB and Julien the GM ensured it was fixed promptly and compensated us for the inconvenience.
We had an OWB with a Mt. Otanmu view and it was worth the extra. Was incredible to watch the sunrise on our private balcony each morning.
Most evenings there is entertainment at the poolside restaurant. Was excellent to sit and enjoy a happy hour drink special and listen to the musicians.
We found most of the food to be quite lovely - especially the raw or cured seafood. The lamb was incredible and the stone grill steak was also well prepared. Like all of Bora Bora - food and drink were very expensive. Packing mid day snacks would have been a good idea.
Lots of complimentary water activities to enjoy - kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling, blow up floaties, etc.
We spent 5 nights and that was the perfect amount of time for the same resort. We spent an additional 4 nights at another French Polynesian island resort.
A great way to have spent our 20th wedding anniversary.

We just got back from the Pearl Beach Resort and had a great time. I went with my wife and our daughter and her new husband. We flew from Toronto with three flights and the final leg being a boat ride. While the trip there and back were a drag, the resort was excellent. There were a few hiccups but overall we had a great time.
Upon arrival my wife and I found that our room had been upgraded from the Premium Overwater Suite to the Otemanu View Overwater Suite at no extra cost. The room was excellent and had a great view of the mountain on the adjacent island. My daughter and her husband had a similar suite two bungalows from us. My daughter had recently married and had arranged to have a traditional Polynesian wedding at the resort to highlight this special occasion. While this was an expensive add-on, it was well worth it will all of the dancers, photographer, and drinks included.
Now for the more detailed evaluation. The room was quite comfortable, I found that the bed was just right and had some of my best night’s sleep at any resort I have been to. From the room you have three windows that look onto the deck, two of which open and give a wide access. We found that in the AM and sun could be quite hot, so we would move the lounger partially into the room to have the benefit of the air conditioning. The only issue that we encountered was with the air conditioning in my daughter’s room. It cut out after a few days and the hotel was unable to repair it. They were moved to another room, given a late checkout and a partial refund to address the issue.
The food at the resort was generally very good, however it became somewhat repetitive as we stayed 9 days at the resort. While the service for breakfast and at the Miki Miki bar was very good, we found that dinner service at the Tevairoa Restaurant not the greatest. On the occasions that we ate there, the initial service was slow and they did not seem to know who should serve us.
One item to note is that the resort is designed for couples, with the lounges on the beach and on the decks of the suites generally set-up to accommodate just two people. The dining rooms are the same, while they do have some tables for four they are on the outer edges of the dining area, and this is likely why our services was slow at Tevairoa.
We took the boat and buss into the town on the main island a number of times for shopping, exploring and dinner (Bloody Mary’s). This was never a problem and the buss and boat departed on time.
The staff and people of Tahiti/Bora Bora are some of the friendliest people I have ever encountered. My daughter is six months pregnant and once we arrived in Tahiti everyone was going out of their way to make her comfortable. On a trip we took to the main island for dinner one night we asked a shop keeper to recommend a restaurant. He pointed out that there was one about a 10 minute walk from his store; he then offered to drive my daughter to the restaurant in his own car while we walked (his car was very small). We declined as we wanted to shop further. Later, after shopping, we were ready to go the restaurant and to confirm the location we talked to another shop keeper. Rather than see my daughter walk to the restaurant he gave us the keys to his car and simply asked that we get it back to him by 5:00 PM as that was when he got off for the day.
Bora Bora is expensive; everything costs an arm and a leg so you want to be a little creative. We bought alcohol at the Tahiti duty free and had large Yeti cups that we filled with fruit juice at breakfast and used this for our drinks during most of the day. The happy hour at the Miki Miki bar (5:30 PM – 7:00 PM) gives two drinks for the price of one. You can also take these drinks with you into the main restaurant if you wish.
While expensive, this is a Bucket List trip and as such it was well worth the travel time and minor issues that we had. Lots of sun, lots of fish and lots of fun.

The Pearl was our final stop on our destination wedding/honeymoon trip to New Zealand and French Polynesia. The scenery here is everything you want it to be - absolutely breathtaking mountain views and crystal clear water with abundant marine life. The overwater bungalow was one of the highlights of our entire trip, and we would have stayed in it the entire time if the beach wasn't so relaxing. The constant breezes kept us cool and we napped, kayaked, paddle boarded, snorkeled, and swam everyday. We did no excursions - for us this was our down time after a lot of hiking in NZ. If your goal is quiet relaxation surrounded by beauty, this is the place to be.
We made our stay more comfortable by using LOTS of bug spray. The resort should invest in insect repelling lights and sprays. We bought duty-free liquor in Aukland and did our own happy hour on the beautiful OWB balcony every evening. The stars are amazingly clear here. One evening (a Thursday) we really enjoyed the live music and just sat at the pool - no one made us feel like we had to buy anything while we listened to a great set. We brought our own mask/snorkel from home and used them a lot. Yes the property needs renovations to compete with world-class resorts - the bungalows and pool were rustic, and the golf has got to go (I suggest replacing this with an air-conditioned and bug-free yoga/meditation hut). But we were lucky enough to vacation in Bora Bora and grateful for the natural stunning views we had day and night.
We were in a regular OWB (not end of pontoon), and were very happy to have made that upgrade. We had a great view of the mountains, easy access to the coral garden, a short walk to the main restaurant area, no bugs, and plentiful breezes. If you stay in a beach bungalow we noticed a few have hammocks right outside, which looked fun, but the OWB is the place to be.
We really enjoyed the main restaurant and the bar/lunch food. At lunch sit closer to the pool on the outside for better breezes, which keep the bug issue at a minimum. We also had fantastic seafood at Bloody Mary's on the main island one night. We would suggest avoiding the sushi place if you are a connoisseur - it was underwhelming, which was strange because the other spots had fantastic seafood options. The staff and concierge were all very friendly. We did have a constant problem of waiting forever on our check after meals, on and off the resort, but perhaps that was a cultural difference and we are not French-speakers. Finally, expect delays and frustration at the airport in Papeete.
All travel has some hiccups, but they were relatively minor here, and considering the astounding location of The Pearl we were beyond thrilled with our stay.

This Hotel has breathtakingly beautiful over-water bungalows with awesome views, a lovely private beach and an extremely tranquil spa. Management also responded well to concerns or queries whenever they were raised and breakfast was of a decent standard. What more could you ask for? ...
Well, the elephant in the room that doesn't seem to be going away anytime soon, which is the lack of food choices! We didn't try the sushi restaurant (preferring cooked food in the evening) which is open for dinner only but in any event there is only one lunch option - the Miki Miki bar - and it's over-priced and very disappointing.The spaghetti is tasteless and bland, the sandwiches are average and the pizzas are just about passable. After a week of this you really start to feel the strain and actually begin to fear heading back to the same dreaded restaurant for lunch time, not least because no measures are taken to prevent a business of flies descending upon you and your food - neither relaxing nor enjoyable. It is genuinely one of the worst Hotel restaurants that I've eaten at in years.
The Tevairoa restaurant is a slightly better option for dinner but again the forced repetition of eating here (and not Miki Miki again) is not what a holiday should be about. I would recommend eating at the B.B. Yacht club one evening to mix things up and doing a full-day Lagoon Excursion trip (you can book this directly online), with a BBQ lunch provided which is far better than any options at the Hotel. Part of the fun of exploring top-class Hotels is the concept of enjoying the different types of food on offer, and we didn't get to participate in that enjoyment here.
We stayed here at the conclusion of our Honeymoon and have no regrets; the setting is the definition of paradise. However, if they start to take the matter of food seriously and stop charging such extortionate prices for a sub-standard menu - and overcharging for water, which should really be provided for free at these prices above and beyond the two free small bottles a day - this Hotel has the potential to be world-class, at which point, it would properly belong in the Leading Hotels of the World (imho).

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon in the end of October 2017. The first day we got there, we were starving and went to the Miki Miki bar area for lunch. While sitting down, I noticed I was starting to get bit by mosquitos (I am one of those people who gets bitten no matter what). I swatted at a few on my arm. A minute later, a staff member noticed, and she brought me over some bug spray. Something like this never would have happened at one of the other chain resorts that my husband and I stayed in before we got to the Pearl Beach Resort in Bora Bora. It was such a kind gesture, her giving me some bug spray, that I was just so touched. It is little things like that, that go a long way. While in the bathroom one night at dinner, an off duty staff member commented on my pretty necklace and was just so sweet to me. She had just gotten off work, and didn't need to be nice to me, but she was. My husband and I stayed at two resorts on two other islands before we got to Pearl Beach, and while the staff at each of those resorts were nice, the staff at Pearl Beach was the nicest staff I have ever experienced. Their warmth is genuine. Every staff member that we interacted with was absolutely wonderful.
In addition to the awesome staff, the resort itself is absolutely stunning. My husband and I stayed in an overwater bungalow looking out towards the mountains, and it was perfect in every way. If I had our whole honeymoon to do over again, I would stay here longer and at the other resorts less. It was the best. Thank you Pearl Beach for the most perfect 4 nights of our honeymoon!
