Conveniently located Marriott, right off Route 128, and near Mass Pike

In all the years I lived in Boston, I had never been to this hotel. It's a "Grand Dame" as the place has been there for many years. Sometimes the older hotels don't upgrade or don't do a good job upgrading.

Happy to say, that for the most part they have done an excellent job, and the sleeping rooms are very new and contemporary. We were on the top floor, the Concierge level, which came with free breakfast.

There is a good sized fitness area, with a lot of equipment and weights. They also have an indoor pool (no hot Tub) which was nice, but dark. They need brighter lights. But free towels and someone on hand to help.

The main lobby is also very nice and everything looks pretty new. Check-in was quick and efficient. A few more words about the rooms. They have huge TV's, I think ours might have been 55'! Not a ton of stations, but every ESPN channel. The bathrooms are all updated and I assume most, like ours, didn't have a bath, just a very contemporary shower. There is a refrigerator in the room, and a safe (in a drawer) which has room for a few valuables.

If you get a chance and the weather is nice, walk behind the hotel, where you will find plenty of places to sit and watch folks on the small lake paddle boarding or riding a canoe or Kayak, which can be rented. We enjoyed the experience, and it helped to relax.

Pricing, on average, wasn't bad. During the week the rates are higher than on the weekend. We spent both weekend nights and Sunday, which was quite higher. They also charge $11.00 for parking. If you have a car you really don't have much of a choice, as there was no free parking on-site. Seemed high but you are very close to Boston and most hotels in this area charge for parking.

The bed was very comfortable, we had a king room. The pillows were a little hard, and got a little smushed down by morning. Plenty of places to charge your devices, even with just a USB connection.

There is a Starbucks in the hotel, and about 1/3 of a mile down the road a Dunkin Donuts! The lobby also has a small shop with a variety of snack options, plus drinks, wine and beer.

When I come back to Boston, and need to be in this area, I'd stay here again. The upgrading of the rooms is a big factor.

Brief visit to Boston on way to Germany

David Won 16/08/2017 22:34

Location was perfect for visiting grandchildren in Needham, son in Quincy and getting back to Logan Airport for departing flight two days later. It's also close to a place for canoeing on the Charles River, but we didn't have time for that. Room 221 was conveniently located near the swimming pool, which I enjoyed using. They also provided fast turnaround laundering a shirt needed for our overseas flight. Due to a false fire alarm, while I was showering on the last morning, we had to finish packing in a big hurry, get dressed and leave our room. In this rush, we left a pair of sapphire earrings in the room. Discovering this loss two days later, while in Germany, I called the hotel and (!!!Thank You Jesus!!!) learned of this rather expensive jewelry having been turned into the hotel's lost and found. An extremely polite and helpful lady, Corola Flores, shipped these earring back to us, arranging for them to be delivered after our return. By itself, this would be enough to make me return to the Boston Marriot Newton, but our stay there was altogether pleasant, excepting only the false alarm.

New England Dance Festival - Great Stay

Timothy421on 08/08/2017 13:33

This is an established property within the Marriott chain. Early check-in was possible - and that was helpful. The beds are comfy! The room was excellent. The staff at the front desk was helpful, courteous, and made the check-in and check-out process fast and painless. If there was one detractor it was that the Air Conditioning REALLY works well in the lobby and restaurant areas. It was cold - because the dancers are exercising - the air conditioning was turn on and temperature lowered to what felt like dry ice. When the air conditioning was set to normal on Sunday - it was wonderful. Not sure if there is a better way to balance out the air conditioning so that the people at the front desk, coffee shop, and lobby don't freeze.

Okay for a night

nicole4278on 30/07/2017 21:32

I stayed for just one night while traveling on business after horrific travel delays and the hotel was average. As a Marriott member, I expect that the preferences in my account will be assessed and met if possible. Literally none of my preferences were met. I prefer higher floors, require hypoallergenic pillows due to severe allergies to feathers and I also filled out the house keeping card for the door that allows you to pick the time of service. All of this was ignored. I was put on the ground floor facing the parking lot, which as a single woman traveling is not ideal, I realized at 3am that I had feather pillows as I was sneezing and house keeping showed up at 8:30 even though I said after 11. I could have paid better attention when I checked in, but I didn't as I had been traveling for 11 hours and it was very late and I just wanted to go to bed.

I would stay here again, but I would confirm beforehand that they are paying attention to your preferences.
