Lynne Mon 07/08/2017 14:10Of course the great reviews and photos were the reason we chose Boutique Hotel Matlai and it did not disappoint. Upon arrival our welcome greeting from Tim made us feel in good and capable hands and when he showed us our villa Kidosho with the pool and the gorgeous backdrop of the palm-fringed turquoise Indian Ocean...oh wow breathtakingly majestic and so much better than the photos.
Elegant airy and tasteful interior which was kept very clean by the friendly but non-intrusive staff. The food was very good especially the coconut-crab soup and all the curries! The staff were courteous and polite, special mention to Mohammed who was especially nice.
Inge and Tim you really have created a beautiful gem here and it's done in a way that made us feel relaxed, at home and it's why we didn't venture very far in our 10 days there. We would return in a heart-beat, thank you for such a memorable holiday.

Everything is at your disposal. They have thought of all the details and have anything you'd need to make your stay unforgettable. The Smith's. USA.

Britt25on 01/07/2017 14:58We were impressed and excited to stay here from the photos we saw online, but felt that when we actually arrived they were even better! Our expectations were exceeded and the rooms were even more beautiful and spacious in real life. We loved the beautiful design and fresh flowers scattered through the room each day 🌸. The boutique only has 6 rooms which is brilliant because it keeps it very private and intimate with everybody knowing everyone's name ( to knowing the staff by name and even the other guests). It makes it feel like a big family. The boutique is simply stunning. We loved all the areas dotted around the place to relax. There was never no place to relax for us and plenty of space to lay about. The staff were all amazing, but especially Salim the head butler who went out of his way to explain things and have a chat. They give you a phone on arrival which you can use to call them at any time which is really handy. The owners Tim and Inga were amazing. So friendly and helpful with all of our questions, they've truly created a beautiful place. Nothing was ever too much trouble and they are so flexible with everything. It's a total gem and definitely our favorite place we have ever stayed. ❤️❤️❤️

From the moment we arrived it was service of the highest order, don't worry the hotel is fantastic, amazing grounds, stunning views of a truly beautiful sea and beach but the service wow!
The rooms are big, clean and pretty. You get everything you need, big TV, WiFi, fridge, great shower, huge bathtub, mozzy nets and so it goes on.
The service though was just amazing, Manager Tim was great, nothing was too much trouble, taxi transfers, open air cinema night, spa treatments whatever you need. All of the staff followed his lead, Saleem, Mohammed and Yousef and all the team were just brilliant, always on hand but never intrusive. A most amazing place in an amazing place!

Lexicon11on 03/05/2017 14:33A small boutique hotel with wonderful character and outstanding service. I had the "blue" room which opened right on to the beach and was adjacent to the pool. The entire staff was great. I arrived super late - after 230am and was greeted by the head butler as if I had arrived at 2pm. He was wonderful. It rained most of the weekend, so I did spend a lot of time inside the complex which was quite quaint. Your room opens into the inside of a manor / shared living space and dining room which is covered, and has lots of lounge areas for sitting, reading, drinking, etc. so you really feel like you have a big house to yourself! Dining is at your leisure and can be had in your room, at the big dining table, or the restaurant/bar. The seafood did not disappoint. Yummy! Finally, the bathrooms are very large and also feature "outdoor" features: a bathtub surrounded by wooden slates, so you have plenty of privacy while experiencing the outdoors and keeping you dry. The toiletries are local Tanzanian products and smell great.
All and all a perfect getaway and a place I can imagine going back to repeatedly.
