Cute Inn near the Market
Tom Son 23/08/2017 14:54We stayed for four nights in July 2017 as we wanted to enjoy all that Rothenburg ob der Tauber had to offer. Marion and Diamond her lovely French Sheepdog greeted us warmly on our arrival. The Inn is on the main street but at the quieter end close to the Spital Bastion and access to the wall that surrounds Rothenburg. Our accommodation was large and clean with a view of the back courtyard. Breakfast had a lot of variety of typical European breakfast items. Marion was very helpful in selecting restaurants and sites to see.
Nice Little Hotel
hfulghumon 16/07/2017 08:40The Goldene Rose is on what seems to be the main street in Rothenberg, though away from the most touristy (and therefore loud) parts of town. Five minutes walk will take you to the main market square.
Parking can be had on the street if you can figure out how to get there, but there is a bus and car parking lot about 300 meters east of the hotel, with a handy door through the town walls that makes getting to the hotel simple. Parking can be paid for for overnight (5 euros as of yesterday).
The hotel is comfortable, verging on quaint, run by a merry proprietress. Breakfast was very German - cold cuts, cheese, bread - and the only complaint I'd register is the coffee was fairly weak.
Rooms are cozy and comfortable. I'd recommend you get one in the back or in the small house/apartment in the back yard, that exists out to the wall walk (or close to it).
charming hotel
Alice Mon 11/07/2017 20:58Stayed one night as part of the Romantic Road tour. The proprietress was well-familiar with the tour, and was helpful in giving information about times for taxi pick up. There front rooms are given over to breakfast seating. No separate seating area. Large friendly dog to greet you. Our room was on the third floor (no elevator)--lage room, dim lighting. Bathroom has a shower stall enclosed only by a curtain too long for the rod--consequently has mildew on the bottom. no storage or shelf space int he bathroom. Towels are thin, as was the mattress. bed wasn't too comfortable. Breakfast was sparse and not replenished (my mom ate the half a hard boiled egg--and no one else got any egg--another lady took the only yogurt--you get the idea), and we were shooed out of the hotel at 845 -- right after breakfast so as to allow the maid to make up the room. Wifi was slow--and overtime the iPhone or iPad shut down, you had to re-enter the 8 digit/letter user name and 8 digit password. So painful.
Very Clean and Adequate
Argus29on 14/06/2017 15:52Thirty years ago when we first came to Germany this would have been a four or five star stay in Rothenburg. Times, standards, and competition has changed the way we look at small hotels. The Goldene Rose, labels itself as a "Boutique Hotel" which in this case means simple but clean and nice.
It is extremely attractive from the outside and very clean and neat on the inside. We had a two room second-floor suite facing onto the street. It was well organized but the furnishings might be called 1970s classic and was basic. The bathroom was large, clean, simple with basic towels. It had no soap for the shower and we used the liquid hand soap from the sinks.
For older couples with luggage or young multi-kid families an important note is the floors are all walk-ups via a somewhat narrow circular staircase. It can be a problem when carrying everything. It's more appropriate and just right for the under forty-five couple crowd.
Breakfast is the primary served meal and it's typical German with cold cuts and bread. Simple but adequate and nicely served.
The manager is very nice and she is happy to provide suggestions for your trip. The biggest hit for our family was the manager's Sheep Dog "Diamond" (a girls best friend), and she was a huge attraction and adoration for the kids. Honestly, Diamond is a good reason to stay there.
Rothenburg remains an attractive city, covered in crowds, but managing to more than hold it's own with fresh paint, repaired buildings, and attractive shops.

Beth Don 12/12/2016 17:36My husband & two teenage children stayed here for two nights. We had not made a reservation & arrived after dark after travelling from Munich. We went to several hotels before we settled on Goldene Rose. The lady who greeted us on arrival was so friendly we felt instantly at home. She suggested we have a look at the rooms to make sure we were happy ( which we did) but to be honest we didn't feel the need. The rooms are smallish but very comfortable. Breakfast is included in the price and was delicious and extensive. The hotel is so close to the Main Street and the staff were also able to organise parking permits for us. Initially we were only staying one night but loved the town & our accommodation so much we asked to stay another night. If we come back we will definitely stay here again. All the staff we met were so friendly and helpful and there was the bonus of Diamond the beautiful dog.
