Scuba trip....will be tough to beat this one!!!
Jul1972on 18/08/2017 02:20The reef divers were great! Tom & BJ were a lot of fun! The resort is nice. Very laid back although doing 15-18 dives in a week; you will need this downtime! There are pool noodles to float around in. And several hammocks seaside to take a nap in.
The drinks were a bit on the high end....drafts were $7-9 USD and bottled beer about the same. The mixed drinks and slushy drink ran up to $11 USD. Do your self a favor and take a loaner bike down the road about a mile to the local liquor store to save a little on drinks. If you charge your drinks to your room....You might want to check your bill each day. Our was a little confusing as my husband got doubles and I didn't although we were both charged for doubles the whole first night in error. Also beware if you pay USD they will give you cayman money in return.
The food was GREAT! The breakfast/lunch/dinners were spot on. Lots to choose from for even the pickiest of eaters. Bring a water bottle to get yourself something to drink when you are not in the dining room or bar side. Some rooms have frogs others do not.
They is a coin operated washer and dryer for your use or you can pay $20 for them to launder a bag full of your items. Don't need a bunch of clothes as most days are spend in your bathing suit and the evenings/diner are mostly shorts/t-shirts/flip flops kind of nights.
5th Time, Keeps Getting Better
Robert Lon 16/08/2017 23:23This was our fifth trip to the Brac, Brac Beach Resort and Reef Divers, and it keeps getting better. While I was initially dismayed with the new pool and bar, longing for the thatched roof covered bar and the painted stones around the property left by diver guests, the new upgrades have grown on me and won me over. In a word, they are spectacular. Sitting in the huge hot tub (holding what, 20 ?) on a balmy evening gazing at the free-form pool change from green to blue lighting, enjoying a pina colada from the nearby 2-story bar while hearing the waves lap on the shore, made for a great 10 days. The food is great and plentiful and the desserts are a treat. Is it bad manners to eat dessert first? Our group favored the black forest cake, the coconut cake and lemon merengue pie while the almond pie and cheesecake came in a close second. Eggs cooked to order in the morning with coffee available at 6:30 am. The coffee pot at 6:30 am was a nice add. Kudos to the chef and kitchen/dining staff for great food and making it all work. The rooms are generous and the property has free wifi that rarely dropped. (Tip: We brought an HDMI cord for Netflix/Prime. Not sure if these are provided or not).
In a previous review, I mentioned the problem with local roosters, waking us up at 4:30 am. I'm very happy to report that the roosters/chickens are gone from the resort...we slept like babies every night and did not even consider the need for earplugs. Roosters and chickens can still be found on the island if needed.
Overall, the resort is clean, well kept and well-run. All of the staff have a friendly disposition and work to insure a good time. The low-key, relaxed, laid-back vibe remains. We found no reason to leave the resort except for some nearby exploring on foot, having rented a car and seen the island on a previous trip.
There are activities most nights including bingo (I was the only guest not to win a game), barbecue night, trivia night etc. Plenty to do to keep busy without really keeping busy.
The diving with Reef Divers was excellent, as usual. I will write a separate review on their page.
Awesome dive destination.
Colin Son 16/08/2017 20:38This was a terrific experience as a diver. I had never experienced "valet" diving before, and it left me feeling a spoiled. They carry wash, and hang your gear. The guides we're great, and the store and hotel staff were also terrific. Lots of amazing dives, and a lovely resort dedicated to divers.
In the evenings there were games, local craft fair, turtle race, presentation on coral, and some time for drinking and laughing.
Non-diver must be prepared to find their own entertainment during the day. When the boats are out the resort is very empty and peaceful, and only a couple of shady spots.
Pack light, the water is warm and the last plane is small.
Loved it and will definitely be back again soon.
We'll Be Brac!
Mizzou214on 10/08/2017 22:25My wife and I spent a week at the CBBR on a scuba diving trip. The resort is absolutely wonderful, and I cannot think of a single thing to complain about. The place appears to have been recently updated, and all facilities/amenities are very clean and in top shape. The staff was wonderful and very helpful, the food was excellent, and the diving was superb. There is a well stocked dive shop on premises in case you forget/lose anything. The dive boats are in top shape, and at 46' are plenty roomy for all aboard. The dive staff is very professional and knowledgeable, and did an excellent job at making sure everyone had a great time, while being safe.
The rates were very reasonable for an all-inclusive resort that features valet style diving. We felt we received great value for the money spent, and will definitely come back some day.
Location, Location, Location
Marcus Mon 09/08/2017 03:09The actual hotel at the Cayman Brac Beach Resort is very similar to any two story hotel with outdoor entrances found along say Route 66. The rooms are comfortable and clean but nothing special. However; you didn't come here to hangout in the room. Right out front there is snorkeling inside the reef, or beach a plenty to hang out. On the inland side of the hotel are the West End Ponds, a Cayman Brac natural area with excellent birding. In the center of the ground there is a magnificent outdoor bar complete with friendly staff and nightly events. Trivia, bingo, music, great fun. And then there is the scuba diving. Most people come for the diving. If you're a scuba diver you owe it to yourself to experience valet diving. They do everything for you. All you have to do is step off the end of the boat. And the dive crews are fantastic. Many great things to see under the Caribbean including many friendly groupers hoping the dive master will kill then an invasive lion fish.
