What People are saying
A "nice" overnight hotel
An_Old_Burianon 24/07/2017 07:52We have stayed at the Brenner on 2 occasions and it is slightly better than average for an overnight stop - its clean, the staff are pleasant and the food is OK but it can be a bit noisy from the block of apartments adjacent
Great value
Mark Gon 11/05/2017 20:27We stayed for 2 nights at the hotel. The hotel is very clean. We only ate the breakfast which had plenty to offer including small sausage, scrambled egg and small bacon. There was a large variety of bread, jam and cold meats on offer all restocked quickly. The staff were extremely helpful. My German was quite rusty but majority of the staff spoke English. The bedroom was large and spacious and the bathroom well laid out. Although we had a room at the front overlooking the main road no traffic noise could be heard. The bar was a little small but had a good range if drinks available including 4 different draught beers
We would gladly return here
Good value
OZG80on 02/11/2016 16:17I stayed one night in this hotel, the room was quite big, good furnished carpet was spoiled and needed to be changed
Staff are friendly, free internet and parking places are avaialble
Very close to city centre
Few issues but great value.....
paulrm2304on 04/09/2016 23:02Bit of mixed review but would still return as friendly enough....
On arrival.......easy to find and a good size car park, we was greeted almost as we arrived, i know a little German but they could speak good english, staff friendly and recieved key and instruction to get to room (more to follow on that), so we gathered our luggage and went to room....
Room.........now as a family and we had a family room which turn out to be on top floor or the roof should i say and to get there you take the lift to floor below and walk up flight of stairs........bit of issue if you do have very young children but they should of put family rooms on floor where lift stops and put twin rooms on top, well thats my view......key to enter room, and when entered it was clean and beds made up, had 1 window which was in roof so had to stick your head out to see the main road, no tea making facility but not many places in europe supply that but would of been nice to have an option for it even if there is a small charge...well i am english like my tea.....lol, there was a fridge with small bottle of spakling water but the fridge never really got cold enough to store your drinks into it, and no i never complained, somethink i can live with.
The bed and sleep..........the double bed was 2 singles pushed together with single covers not really an issue at least no dissagreement on who's got all the covers!.....peaceful sleep, there is bit of noise from road bet never bothered me, the only issue is the German pillows....they big square and very soft, i had 3, folded in half and when i put my head on it my head sank until almost touching the mattress, and no i'm being serious, how can they sleep on these, on the secound night as it was really warm i used the duvet cover folded up and used that as a pillow, would be nice to have a firmer pillow but we are in Germany, it's what they use.
The hotel.......didn't look much from raod but clean as entered, drinks machine just by lift and coffee from it tasted ok to me, 1.50 euros, breakfast is an extra charge but never had any at hotel when we were there also never used the restuarant so can't comment on that, staff pleasant and friendly and i felt completly safe around by hotel with no issues with the car parked in a un-secured parking, the only issue i had was with the maid who was supposed to clean our room, i dont expect anyone to clean up after me but at one point had to go to reception to ask for clean towels and not been changed, and not once did we have clean sheet in our 7 night stay....
The surrounding area......every morning about 6am i took a walk around area, turn left out of main entrance and theres a pastry drive through restaurant, very nice for spot of German breakfast not too sure when they stop breakfast but lovely pastries... cross the road from hotel and walk up past the church and cemetary (very pretty and well maintained cemetary, worth a walk around), up to lights turn left there's a large supermarket (Reed i think its called), Beer is cheap from here and great for breakfast also or lunch and spot of shopping, worth a look, wouldnt recommend the little supermarket across from the road....turn right from hotel across the road you will see the tram station on left which is a direct route to Bielefeld town centre, machine there for tickets and cheap enough, great little ride, if you walked to town takes about 30 mins so not too far away.....turn left from hotel then left at lights not alot down that way, little park just off route with a small lake i think walk down to lights and a parade of shops also dominos pizza take away there, i thought hotel good location, motorways not too far away Padderborn town about 35 mins away, there is a free Zoo in bielefeld which is very good or pop up to the castle for a look over town....
Swimming if you like a dip and have children go for the day and take a picnic but food is served there....its called H20 in Hereford about 30-40 min drive, best place and we had so much fun there waterslides that light up, differnet pools, great family fun.
Overall Verdict.......location not too bad.......clean, safe and friendly staff........a budget Hotel so dont expect all the frills of top hotels, but comfy except for pillows.......some rooms undergone fresh painting.....
The Negs......family room in loft with no direct lift access.....German pillows.....no tea making facility......and some nights hard to find a parking space due to something happening in basement (don't ask me what never ended going down there)......
but despite only 3 marks i would still return and will do 1 day...love Germany, there way of life, food, and clean where ever you go, also the language....just enjoy and put aside the little negs as your not there to spend allday in room but to explore the country.....
good value
CarolP10on 31/08/2016 18:08stayed at the brenner for 2 nights. very clean room, was spacious too. very central for our needs, plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. hotel staff spoke english which helps. the beds wwere comfy, thou the pillows need to more firm. there was no tea/coffee making facilities, but there was a drinks machine in the lobby. breakfast comes at extra cost, but was very nice, choice of meats and cheese, cereals, yoghurt. breads and jams. also german sausage and scrambled egg. althou the hotel is on a crossroads, its very quiet.
