What People are saying
Well...
FinnoG-Mon 08/10/2014 00:02Hmm. Deciding whether this is a good hotel or not is quite hard. One one hand, the hotel itself wasn't THAT bad. It wasn't somewhere I'd stay out of choice. The manager screamed and shouted at us all (we are a small school group) got really irate and threw plates onto the floor. This was all because a 12 YEAR OLD GIRL spilled her water onto his 'nice new' PAPER table cloth! However, I personally didn't like him much. Every little thing was a huge problem. I told him my chicken (which was awful) was a quite underdone and was pink with blood in there and he swore at me. Sometimes, he tried his best to be nice, but people got on his nerves. He was easily irritable though. The whole experience was terrifying. He made people (adults and 11 year olds) cry. He was very condescending, personally I just think he was a bit of a scragend with obvious hygiene issues (changed his clothes once in 5 days).
The restaurant was a lot worse. I was in tears. Maybe I was a little overtired and homesick, but having raw meats put in front of you from a kitchen with obvious cross-contamination issues is very nerve racking. The waitresses and cleaners other than the manager were very nice. The chef wasn't. He/She picked his/her nose and continued preparing food. He/She went outside, smoked and then didn't was his/her hands. I personally thought this was obscene.
The rooms were probably the worst part. There was four of us sharing and we were crammed into a double room with four single beds. The windows wouldn't close, which resulted in one of us staying up for the night on the look out for burglars. The locks didn't lock and there were giant cockroaches, spiders and other bugs all over the place! There was mold on the beds, along with WET, YELLOW stains on the mattress. I suspect the manager stole things from our room, as my suitcase was open and 50 euros in total were taken. I also took before and after pictures of the suitcases. This was at NIGHT!!! When I woke up, my suitcase had been 're-arranged' and 10 euros was missing. Fortunately for me, this was the night that I'd taken pictures. Along with this, my roommate's CLOTHES were taken, resulting in him wearing the same clothes for 5 days. To be honest, it was more comfortable sleeping on a full, noisy coach than in those rooms. Also, when the group was out, we returned to find someone had been in our room, and had EATEN MY FOOD on MY BED!!! I was very angry about this. There were crumbs all over my bed.
On the last night, I emptied my pocket (which was full of sand) onto the bedroom's carpeted floor to get back at him for upsetting me.
Wonderful stay, we'll worth the money
EvieParker9on 13/08/2014 23:45The staff couldn't do enough, the location was excellent, the rooms were brilliant, lovely shower, the bed was comfy and the breakfast was lovely. I am going to book up for next year. Excellent value for money.
Full of character
NeilandSharon 08/09/2013 18:15We weren't lucky enough to have one of the updated rooms so the only negative is that it was a bit overpriced to be honest.
We stayed on the way back up from La Rochelle to Calais and arrived quite late so didn't really see much of the area.
It certainly has the American Motel feel to it and definately felt quite spooky at the end of the corridor upstairs.
Got to be better than a stay in a Formula one but would have been better value if we had one of he new rooms.
Great stay at Les Veys
wd50on 24/07/2013 19:47We were a group of 8 cyclists staying here on our way to Paris. At the end of a hard day in the saddle the owner gave us a great welcome and without us asking immediately found us a store room where we could lock up our bikes. The hotel is in need of a lick of paint but this just adds to the character. It has a solid feel and was very quiet - no creaky floor boards here! The "don't stay here review" is just ridiculous - it's great. All our party thought it was the best of the 4 hotels we stayed in. Full of character and in a nice rural setting. Get a room at the back of the hotel and you have a balcony view to the north.
A Quality Hotel at a Good Price
iowaaggieon 03/07/2013 13:59I stayed at the hotel during my tour of French WWII sites and I was impressed with the helpfulness of the staff, (especially when I had trouble hooking into their Internet). The hotel does not look like much from the outside, (kind of like an old American Road House) but the place is quite inviting on the inside. The only downside was that the downstairs rooms were extremely cold and there was no way to control the temperature. I was the only guest in the hotel that night, (other than the sheep, which were a surprise the next morning, when I woke up and saw them staring at me through the window from the back yard). I never ate at the restaurant, though the food still smell good.
