What People are saying

All that glitters is certainly not Gold

perryf35on 29/08/2017 11:48

This hotel was part of a road trip I did with a friend of mine and this was our last port of call before heading back home. When I was selecting a hotel to stay in the area I was drawn to this hotel because of the photographs of the rooms which look really nice and the facility of having a spa as well. It should be said That the photographs featured rooms with fourposter beds, obviously trying to coax in the waiting trade. However when we arrived we weren't sure we were at the right hotel because the photographs were of its rear elevation which was nicer than the front of the hotel which look like an old peoples home. Whilst the staff were very nice and tried to be helpful we found the hotel to be tatty particularly the bedrooms which were in need of upgrading. My friend had no hand washed in her room and although promised it never arrived, the handle on the inside of the door was coming away her curtains like mine had been pulled down in part and in my room were quite badly ripped. The bedroom furniture look like utility furniture from World War II,very poorly made of plywood and frankly not what you would expect to find in a four-star hotel. The shower cubicle in my otherwise nice bathroom was so tiny that I could barely wash myself properly. The common areas had this garish carpet that matched nothing else, and it all looked a little bit makeshift. Even the reception area was tatty and untidy. As for the breakfast, a poor offering of lumps of cheese, fatty ham and cooking bacon and sausages on one side does not make it appetising. We did visit the health spa which sadly looks very dated and tatty and was very limited in the treatments it offered. On the upside it was well located for Cheshire Oaks outlet centre and not far from the centre of Chester. Overall very disappointing and won't be returning there in a hurry

Great Food, No Sleep, Hotel as tired as we are!

David Con 28/08/2017 14:45

Booked this '4 Star' hotel for a weekend away with my wife, firstly the good point, the food was perfect, good portions and really great quality. That is unfortunatly where the good ended!

The walls are paper thin so every step, creak and voice outside in the corridor woke us up, the footfall outside our room was loud until the small hours of the morning (even though we were in the 'quiet part' of the building supposedly away from the wedding!), after finally dropping off to sleep we were awoken on our relaxing break away at 6.30am by the delightful sound of glass being emptied into bins for about 15 minutes, needless to say we were unable to go back to sleep! We decided to take advantage of the morning with a trip to the pool and jacuzzi where we were greeted by an unnecessarily rude woman who made us feel extremely unwelcome. The 'spa' itself was just as tired as the rest of the hotel and everything just felt a bit grotty and grubby, definitely needs updating.

To top it off, upon airing our complaints on checkout, the girl wasn't bothered, didn't offer so much as an apology and just fobbed us off by saying she will pass our complaints on! ..... to who I don't know, but I would hazard a guess that we weren't the first and won't be the last to share those views with her.

I won't be coming back here and I would encourage them to drop their stars and their prices as neither are a fai reflection on the hotel.

A dire rip-off

Catherine Lon 27/08/2017 11:28

We stayed here for 2 nights, including breakfast. The bill came to just over £330 for 2 of us. Here's why I've given this review the title "a dire rip off":

It's no frills and at over £150 on average, we'd expect a room that fits the description. We got a small, Travelodge style room.

The bathroom was in dire need of repair - peeling lining paper, a cracked bath panel and a rusting shower curtain rail.

This was exacerbated by the leak that started in the middle of our second night's stay - the leak not coming from a dripping tap, but rather from a light fitting.

This hotel cost us approximately £330 for 2 nights' B and B for 2 people. Our room was small, with peeling wallpaper in the bathroom, a cracked bath panel, a rusty shower curtain rail and a leak coming from the light fitting.

The leak started during the row that we heard loudly and clearly from the room next door. Two chaps were shouting the odds. At one point, judging from the sounds, it got physical. This was around 4:20 and went on long enough to wreck the night's sleep.

The previous night, our kip had been disrupted by people talking loudly as they returned to their rooms and then by a couple having sex, which we could hear. More power to them, sadly not to our rest and relaxation.

What was the hotel recpetionist's response this morning? To offer the card of the general manager. I declined that, because it wouldn't help any other punter decide whether to stay here - and because the state of the room suggested that looking after guests and fixing the fixables are not high on the management's priorities.

At least if someone reads this review, they can make an informed choice about that. That choice being - to get ripped off or not.

Spa day

Joanne Con 27/08/2017 11:21

We arrived at 11 to use the facilities and then wait for our times for spa treatment. I chose the pedicure,I never had nails painted, all she did was file me feet and rub cream into them. I already had nails done but there wouldn't of been time to paint them. Treatment felt rushed. 20 mins is all I had. The young girl who did the treatment was very nice and chatty, I was just disappointed with the treatment. I wouldn't say this was a pedicure at all. Wouldn't return!!

Wedding

stephjc1988on 26/08/2017 18:12

Me and my husband booked mollington banastre as our wedding reception and evening venue because of its garden and facilities. It was absolutely amazing. Clive the events manager and all the other staff was amazing they made sure everything went perfectly and nothing was to much to ask. The food was so delicious so much flavour even the vegetarian option was perfect. Francois is an great chef and clearly loves his job. Couldn't be happier to have had our special day here and highly recommend to anyone wish to getting married. Perfect place, setting and staff
