One night stay
scollinson1on 18/08/2017 16:37Although we did not stay in the room much it was very out dated and the cold tap in the room was pretty much falling off! For £68 for the night, there are a lot better alternatives for a cheaper price in the area. The only good point was the location.
Stay away!!!
Cerceja Lon 16/08/2017 12:56I'll give them this: clean sheets.
Otherwise... horrible. I don't know how they took their official pictures, but my reality is this:
- the mould smell hits you from the entrance;
- the door to our room wouldn't stay closed unless locked with the key;
- a large spider right over the bed;
- the sink is outside the bathroom, right next to the bed;
- I could barely get into the bathroom as the door was hiting the bed;
- all the noises you can imagine, from the entrance door, to squeaky stairs, floor and bed;
- paint coming off the walls;
- at midnight a fight brooke between two other guests and lasted for almost an hour on and off without any intervention from the hosts;
- breakfast consisted of toast, butter, jam and coffee.
So, everything they tell you is a lie... The rooms are extremely small and crowded with furniture, the smell is unbearable and "breakfast" is barely there. No way a night here is worth £70.
Acceptable room. Witnessed a naked bike ride from room window!
Daniyal Don 21/06/2017 12:39We booked the room with a four-poster bed, in this house converted to a guest house. Overall, for the price and location, the stay was acceptable.
POSITIVES:
- Homely and cozy - hostess runs it herself, and there's a nice personal touch to the place.
- Not far from train station - about a 10 minute walk.
- Amenities nearby include ATM, a convenience store, a café and a take-away.
- Hot water available in shower. Towels provided.
- Free wi-fi offered.
NEGATIVES:
- On arrival, the hostess asked us to go straight to the room as she was dealing with other clients. Although she came up later to check everything was ok, we were a bit surprised by the lack of a check-in process.
- Rooms are on the smaller side. Good if you have few bags and belongings.
- No bar of soap in the bathroom - if that had been mentioned when booking, I'd have remembered to buy some soap beforehand!
- Shower is hand-held, and you have to sit down in the triangular bathtub to take a shower. But it works!
- Room was a bit dusty, but we did not have any health problems due to this.
- Street noise (especially ambulances) was a problem for my partner at night, made worse by having to keep the window open due to the hot weather.
My room had clouds painted on the ceiling
moriacon 17/05/2017 10:30If the breakfast went til ten o clock we would have given it a five rating. You are surrounded by a host of eclectic bric a brick from the owners mirror surrounds, Van Gogh and topics of misery and uplifting . The beds are cozy and our room had most things except a fridge which wouldn't have fitted any way as we needed to put some furniture in the closet to open our cases but had the choice. Heating, cooling adequate. Heavily booked l gather as Cambridge is often busy and expensive. They are really trying to get it right and l would reccomend.
Better than the reviews it gets
AndrewPreston1on 08/10/2016 21:18Maybe I am too easily pleased but I can't understand how people find this place terrible. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was decorated in a strange but quaintly quirky way but everything did what it was supposed to. Bed was very comfortable, shower worked perfectly as did the TV and WiFi and there was loads of storage space even if the wardrobe was on the small side. If cooked breakfast had been included in the price, which I thought it was but was actually £5 extra, I would have given it 5 out of 5.
