Convenient to Duke Ambulatory
carolyncopeland49on 23/07/2017 23:43My husband recently had a procedure at Duke Ambulatory and we chose the Cambria due to the convenient location. Some of the hotel still needs some renovation, but I room was nicely appointed and clean. We also received great service and food at the restaurant located on the first floor. Our only issues were with the front desk - first they were going to charge us $5.00 a night for parking, although the websites states that there is free parking....I was told that the new policy was to charge, however, since the website had not been changed they would override it... (why are they going to charge their paying guest to park on their property). In addition to that our room key card did not work half the time. I stepped out of the room for a minute, left my husband in bed, tried to return seconds letter and my key card would not work and I could not get in the room..I had to go to the front desk to get it activated again..This same thing happened several times during our 3 days there. I asked why it kept happening and the answer was so vague I could not begin to understand it, the lady had her head under the counter the entire time she was explaining it and said something about the hospital, the telephone and something else...not sure what that had to do with my room key card.
Glad It's Remodeled
Tyra Con 22/07/2017 20:31Stayed for a workshop at Duke University. I stayed last year and it was definitely a lot better this year. Glad someone decided to spend money and come into the 21st century.
But here's the problems:
The shower pressure was so low it was like taking a shower during a rain drizzle.
I had to keep turning the temp on the ac down because the room was super stuffy I guess it's one of those energy efficient type thermostats.
The Social Circle (Restaurant) I sat for 12 minutes before I was asked for help. All I wanted was a latte. When I finally asked, the young lady, with short blond hair, stated she didn't know how to make one. Why is it on the menu?
So Wednesday morning I call to see if I can order one without waiting and just pick it up, I got put on hold so long I hung up. If you are going to run a restaurant you might need more than one server and train staff on all items on the the menu.
Lastly twice in a row I was awaken at 2am by arguing and fighting in the hall.
This hotel has made some major renovations but it's still rough around the edges.
Excellent accommodations, most pleasant and helpful staff. for access to all Duke's facilities with free van service
as0bion 20/07/2017 13:55Highly suggest this as as a place if you are attending any function at Duke. Staff was most helpful and went out of their way to see that all of our large group got to their venue on time. Rooms were great with all new furnishings, linens, appliances and free hi speed wifi is a plus with connections everywhere. Individual heat/cool controls too
Worst hotel I've been to
207samiaeon 19/07/2017 01:53I stayed at this hotel for six days while my Son was warded at Duke hospital.
This hotel rides on the fact that it's renovated but the service and the food in my opinion is poor. The only decent and helpful people were the shuttle Drivers.
House keeping was way. Elbow standard , I was having an afternoon nap and Housekeeping bangs on my door to ask if the room was clean and when I said it was , she asked Are you sure. In my Opinion it was a lame way of wanting a tip! What happened next day , no towels I had to dry myself with all the little hand towels. I paid by cash every two days but refused a receipt immediately with the lame excuse that the computer doesn't register except at 2:00 am
When I asked to speak to the manager who came out to the lobby , I asked to speak to him privately in his office, he declined saying that his office was"messy", he listened while the two women at the desk crept closer and craned their necks to listen to my complain. This clearly is poor management , hope the owners of the chain of hotel send him to clear his messy desk so he can give guests the privacy they require when they need to express their concerns. Would never recommend anyone stay there.
excellent place and location
Donald Lon 13/07/2017 18:00Hotel was not far from the airport. very centrally located in the city of Durham. Found customer support very friendly and helpful. Would recommend enrolling in rewards program to get a free drink and room upgrade.
