What People are saying

Faulty towers

Jeff Son 20/08/2017 19:42

Unfortunately not the best of our selections for a tour of Devon.
We spent four nights here, the management at this hotel should be ashamed of themselves, the decor and furnishings need urgently updating, the cleanliness of the rooms is appalling and the majority of the staff need training.
The first room we were allocated had filthy carpets and the walls needed a fresh coat of paint , the bath had a mould growing through the tiles .
We were upgraded to a premium double, again mouldy around the bath , and human hairs on flat lower surface and around the toilet, which were visible even on our departure day ( four nights)
A visit to the car park in the pouring rain at 1.00am in the morning on a false fire alarm wasn't fun , made worse by the fact that two false alarms during the previous two days and the management hadn't rectified an obvious problem
The food was Ok , and staff in the restaurant, although very young and inexperienced , were the best in the hotel.

Booked through Secret Escapes, this one needs to be kept SECRET, shame, the city of Exeter is well worth a visit

Poor hotel

Kathy Son 20/08/2017 09:17

Saw beautiful photos of this hotel & thought I'd treat my 85yr old mother to a break away. We had driven for 5 hrs from down south as we eagerly arrived at this beautiful little hotel. Friendly staff. I had asked if there were stairs as mother can't walk well. We were told "a few" OMG poor mum had to go up a flight then down a flight then long corridors. We managed it 😅 the twin room was ok! I always pull back the sheet in hotels!! Only to find a very very stained mattress!! They did offer another room it was dark. So the mattress was turned over with me helping!! I asked for a clean protector as it had been touching the awful yellow stains the young man assured me they are all clean. When fighting with rest of bedding the protector was exposed with a great yellow stain in it 👿 then removing. Pillow cases NO protectors pillows covered in yellow dribble/sweat stains!!
Very tired dirty hotel. Not cheap ruiened our stay.
Room service presented god adult ham& mustered sandwich. No butter. 1" thick mustard spread both sides would be sick if eaten. Cancelled breakfast as dirty hotel. Tired dusty furniture in rooms.
NOT HAPPY!! Waste of £116

Wedding Venue and Hotel stay

We recently had our wedding ceremony and reception at the buckerell lodge. We could not fault this hotel it was a fantastic venue and the service we received from all the staff was brilliant. We also stayed the night and had breakfast, the room was very nice and the breakfast was lovely. We would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking of getting married there.

Well located for Exeter city centre

We stayed for one night en route to Cornwall. We had read some pretty negative feedback on the hotel so arrived with a little trepidation. The staff were warm and welcoming, the food was good and hearty, the bed was a little soft for us. All in all a very nice stay at a very good price. Cannot see what all the complaints were about. You can walk into Exeter from here or take a bus so very convenient.

Friendly helpful staff but it needs a refurb badly

Englisheron 11/08/2017 00:15

We stayed for two nights as part of the funeral reception we were holding there. We booked four rooms and I have to say we were all very pleased with the staff and the food in the evenings which was reall delicious. The staff were generally so helpful and friendly and the price for everything was reasonable. We are very happy.

However, the poor place is in desperate need of a refurb. The chairs in the bar are fraying and the ones in the restaurant feel like they are going to fall apart at any minute. The team try to make up for this and it has to be said that the gardens are lovely and the Garden Suite is perfect for what we wanted or a small wedding.

The rooms vary a lot and it's worth checking if another is available if you are not happy. We got moved to what I think was the bridal room but it was just airy and brighter. Some of the rooms are a bit dark and dingy.

Bar prices are reasonable, £4 pint etc.

Overal it's a good stay if you don't mind the old and sometimes tatty decor, but in our experience the staff were great and the evening food delicious. Breakfast is average.
