What People are saying

Good hotel in the middle of Burford high street

alex19602016on 23/08/2017 00:01

LOCATION: 5/5 The Bull is situated close to the centre of Burford High Street, with easy access to all Burford has to offer.
ROOM FURNITURE AND FITTINGS: 4/5 smartly decorated, with wardrobe, dressing table (with desk fan), tea+coffee making facilities, a large flat screen TV and a small sofa. The room was a little tight for space with all the contents but all fixtures and fittings were in good condition. However, we were in room 18, which had been recently decorated and is positioned at the back of the Hotel.
BATHROOM: 4/5 quite large and reasonably appointed, with bath/shower and hair dryer
ROOM CLEANLINESS: 5/5 everything perfectly clean and well presented
HOTEL DECOR AND CLEANLINESS: 4/5 quite presentable
HOTEL FACILITIES: 4/5 restaurant, bar, lounge and some outside seating
VALUE: 4.5/5 Reasonable rates for a reasonable quality hotel in a prime location
BREAKFAST: 4/5 a selection of hot (cooked to order) and cold fare available

SUMMARY: This is a very old inn and therefore has some unique characteristics such as the slightly steep, narrow stairs and comically sloping floors (certainly in our bathroom and bedroom anyway - large wood blocks under all the furniture to keep it straight). This would not be a great place for someone with significant mobility issues. If you take it for what it is, it is a good hotel and good value, however do not compare it to a new custom-built hotel. We visited during a heat wave and could only just get the room cool enough to sleep with the fan left on and window open wide.

Fab Food

We had dinner at the Bull - food and service were first class - we are planning to return. The barman was amazing a young man from the sunny island of Menorca.
He is a valuable asset to The Bull which I hope the owners appreciate.

Fantastic choice

We stayed here as a group of eight ( four couples ) to celebrate a 50th and 60th birthday. From the moment we arrived at reception to when we checked out the hotel was faultless. The rooms were quirky, clean and very well equipped. Plenty of hot water for a relaxing bath too !
The food - well, I'm very fussy and I have to say it was top notch. The breakfast choice was amazing and everything was of a very high quality. The hot choices were cooked to order and even though all eight of us ordered different things it all came out at the same time and perfectly cooked.
I cannot write this review without mentioning the staff. Apart from one waitress at breakfast who didn't seem to possess a smile they were all excellent. Xavier, who I think was the manager/assistant manger was one of the best front of house I, or any of us had experienced. Nothing was too much trouble and always done with a big smile ( very charming too ). I cannot recommend the Bull enough. We will return without a doubt.

Fantastic stay

My mother and I stayed overnight in the Milton room. The young Hungarian receptionist was very welcoming and informative.
Our room was up 2 flights of stairs. It was spotless and all extras were of good quality (tea, toiletries etc.)as was the bed linen.
Dinner in the evening was deliciously faultless. The young waitress was well informed when we ask for the name of a salad ingredient.
Breakfast was also excellent.Fresh fruit, homemade jams ,hand cut ham as well as a full english and the house special sticky muesli served by a very pleasant waitress.
We couldnt fault our stay although we were amused by the uneveness of the floor in our room which of course was due to the age of the building.
We can highly recommend

Lunchtime visit

Lunchtime visit for three of us with the dog in tow. Soup and sandwiches were had by all, all of which were top notch. Quick service and pleasant surroundings outside in the courtyard...... well worth a visit.
