Excellent Quaint 17th Century Inn at the Centre of Burford
welshglobetrotterson 18/06/2017 12:51We stayed for two nights at Burford House to celebrate a special Birthday. We booked a Deluxe Four-Poster Room through Booking.com and got a great rate (£140 per night for two, including breakfast).
The hotel has no car-park, but you can park your car in the street outside (on the opposite side there are marked bays). We never had difficulty finding a place.
Externally an attractive two storey 17th Century beamed building with attic windows under a traditional Cotswolds shingle roof, the property is in the middle of Burford High Street and very easy to locate.
You enter into the bar / restaurant area and a sign directs you to the first floor hotel reception. We were warmly greeted and shown to our room (the Southrop Suite), just off reception. On entering there is a small vestibule, leading to your fire-escape and then through a further door into your room. There is a separate toilet to the left and bathroom to the right. The bathroom has a separate shower and bath. There is a vanity unit with basin and several mirrors. The bathroom had a range of huge fluffy white towels and complimentary toiletries with large windows overlooking a side street.
Through into the bedroom, which is dominated by a huge oak four poster-bed. Tasteful period and antique furnishings with two comfortable easy-chairs, large wooden ottoman, dressing table, further chair, bedside tables a footstool, two further antique wooden seats and a coffee table. The room had a large flat-screen TV with a full range of Sky channels and a DVD player. There were a scattering of ornaments, water carafe and free WIFI.
The bedroom had two windows. One overlooking the attractive courtyard / terrace and another overlooking a side-street.
Breakfast is served until 09.30 - but the staff at this boutique hotel indicated that they'd be happy to work around this if we wanted a later breakfast. Breakfast is in the front dining room of the Hotel. A comfortable location, which becomes a Bistro in the evenings. An excellent choice of breakfasts were freshly prepared to order, including Full English, Avocado with Poached Eggs on Bloomer, Smoked Salmon with Scrambled eggs etc. There was also a buffet with a range of tempting pastries, fruit salad, yogurts and cereals available with fruit juices. Coffee, Tea and toast aplenty.
At night, or if the Bistro is closed, residents have a front-door key and opportunity of using the honesty bar - however as there is a Co-operative food store across the street, we picked up a bottle of chilled wine to enjoy in our room - the hotel always being happy to provide wine glasses.
Alternatives for dinner at night include good, wholesome pub food at the Golden Pheasant Inn - about 50 yards down the High Street, or the Spice Lounge - about 200 yards down the High Street for well prepared Indian dishes. There are a number of cosy pubs also available within this small town.
Burford is easily accessible from the A40, with all main Cotswold villages and towns (Woodstock, Bibury, Bourton-on-the- Water, Stow, The Slaughters and Oxford) within a 20 minute drive.
I highly recommend Burford House for a relaxing Cotswold break.
Good hotel in lovely town
Paul Ton 13/06/2017 18:59Had a superior room where the room was fine and the bathroom very good - separate bath and shower and lots of hot water.
Access to the room (Taynton) is up a tricky set of steep, narrow stairs - not suitable for all. Breakfast was superb, had dinner as well on one night and that was fine. Would consider using again.
Ideal in the Cotswolds!
tiredbigmamaon 11/06/2017 13:44This wonderful hotel is in a perfect location for a driving tour of the Cotswolds! The staff was friendly and extremely helpful (Elliot took wonderful care of us!!). Delicious cooked to order breakfast and dinners. Burford is centrally located for the entire area....couldn't have chosen any better!
Amazing!!!
277emmakateon 09/06/2017 15:32I took my bf to Burford House for his birthday and we had such a lovely time. The hotel was lovely, although a mix up on the rooms initially but this was dealt with very well and we got the room we had booked, so no complaints. The staff were really professional and friendly.
The breakfast was amazing, with so much choice.
Would definitely go back.....
