Expectations of a 3 star hotel
PuffinPeteon 18/08/2017 18:08My wife and I stayed for 3 nights with a coach tour. I did wonder what we could expect and I am delighted to say my expectations were, by and large, exceeded.
The staff were genuinely pleased to help and without exception, had a cheery smile.
I think I am right in saying that it is a hotel that has expanded over the years by buying and linking properties which would explain why to get to our ground floor room, we had to go up a flight of stairs, along a passage and back down again. Having said that, our room was large, light and airy and worth the walk. The bed was a very comfortable 6 foot wide with duvets, blankets available.
The meals we had were from the table d'hote menu as we were on an "inclusive" deal. There is an a la carte menu available. What we had was wholesome and satisfying but not 5 star. Breakfast is buffet style with a good selection available although the fresh fruit salad ran out fairly early on two of the days.
The leisure centre was superb with an excellent array of equipment and a pool.
Not that it affects the quality of the stay at all but we were fascinated by the decor on the stairway - a 1920's theme and delightful.
Part of the way I judge a hotel is the bathroom. The toiletries were very nice and, 10 out 10, there was a shaving mirror AND heated main mirrors in the bathroom.
Lovely overnight stay
Christine644369on 18/08/2017 16:18A huge thank you to all the staff for sorting out another family room as the 1st was not suitable. Nothing was a problem to them and other hotels could learn from this. Breakfast was great and plentiful. The swimming pool just made the visit. A text sent hoping we had a good journey home was a lovely touch. Many thanks again to everyone.
Great Hotel & Great Location
4AnnieMcon 18/08/2017 01:43We had a great 2 night stay 11th&12th Aug hotel is very central for everything we had standard double rooms small but very nicely furnished although TV could have been a bit bigger ! There was a choice of superior rooms if you wanted to pay extra but our rooms were fine for a short stay breakfast was very good although we were not offered tea/coffee and after a few minutes had to ask for it. Good leisure facilities for a 3star hotel nice pool jacuzzi steam room and sauna of which we made good use of I notice a comment from a previous review about this being a hotel for coach tours and there were a couple of tours arrived when we were there but I can't see what difference this makes other than reception being a bit busier for a short period of time and they departed early in the morning so it did not affect breakfast last but not least all of the staff at this hotel were lovely and we had especially good service from Claire on reception and Jane who went the 'extra mile' for us Well done the Cairndale!!
Dreadful
Nicola Bon 15/08/2017 08:19The positives staff are fantastic.
Arrived for a long weekend. Had read very positive reviews.
This hotel is trapped somewhere between 1960 & 1976! The majority to the other clients staying were bus loads of tourists. The rooms we had were in much need of a renovation. Beds are so poor they reminded me of 1986 when we bought the cheapest spare bed. The duvets are thin & worn, the pillows have long past their use by date.
The pool is ok.
Frankly if you like retro decor & dust, breakfast swimming in grease & bread baguettes that could break windows you'll love it.
Birthday breakaway
Gillian Mon 11/08/2017 22:26Had a very enjoyable experience at this hotel, my husband booked as a surprise as we have had a very stressful couple of years and he is recovering from a nasty and life changing motorbike accident. The reception team were first class, we had to rearrange our booking as my husbanrd forgot I had a hospital appt on the Monday, so managed to rebook instantly from Sun, Mon night to Mon, Tues, with no problem, He said it was my birthday on Monday 7th August and could he have a nice room as I had really looked after him over this couple of years since he was recuperating. They certainly looked after us what a surprise I got when I opened the door, a 4 poster bed, a separate lounge room with t.v. and fridge, lovely bathroom with lovely hospitality gifts and bath robes and slippers. The staff also in the restaurant both morning and evening were very attentive, and mostly compliments to the chefs, the meals were of a very high standard, and I can honestly say we enjoyed on both nights. The spa also was so enjoyable, felt so relaxed in all areas of it and was such a great touch as not to have to bring your own towels even getting your wet costume dried! Have already recommended to friends and family, will definitely return!
