Bren Gon 15/08/2017 09:37visited the Caladh inn recently for a one night stop over as part of a coach tour with Dodd's of Troon a wonderful tour company.
the hotel was all we needed clean comfortable and food exceptionally good served carvery so help yourself to the most delicious selection of starters, then a great choice of joints of meat and vegetables also rice dishes, spoilt for choice, i chose Lamb shank a very good choice lamb fell off the bone and was very tasty deserts served at the table good choice very nice there was a comfortable residents lounge for tea and coffee after dinner, also a Ceili the night we were there in the function room.
Caladh was very near the ferry port .
what we loved about the Ferry to Stornaway there is designated seating areas for people with pets, never seen that before,I spent the whole journey talking to dogs..
would recommend the Caladh a short distance from the town centre of Stornaway.
Worthy of another Star!
Johncouzigouon 14/08/2017 20:06We had a wonderful stay at this hotel on a recent visit. It is hard to believe it has only 2 Stars. It is definitely worthy of at least one more star. The hotel is neither posh nor extravagant but it has and offers everything one would want in a hotel. The Wifi is excellent and we had no problems with it whatsoever. The staff are friendly, courteous and helpful. The rooms while small are modern, clean and practical. The bathrooms have recently been renovated. The food quality and selection at both dinner time and breakfast are excellent. At least 3 different kinds of meat were available for dinner. I can't commend it too highly. The only criticism I might have is the fact that their alcohol prices seemed a bit steep but other than that we had no complaints. It is within a 5-minute walk to the High Street and the Ferry Terminal.
A two star hotel, exactly
Lee Ton 08/08/2017 19:43Our room was quite large and comfortable being a family room. Breakfast was included in the tariff which was okay but nothing special, everything packaged or canned. Stale croissants and very plain bread for toast. The reception staff were very pleasant and helpful, but my big gripe was the poor wifi. Well actually no wifi in the room and only a weak connection in the reception area. I could only receive and send emails in the Eleven restaurant where we had breakfast. The hotel stay was part of our booked holiday and we spent two nights there. Even a two star hotel should have proper internet connection in this day and age. We stayed in a few quite remote places during our holiday and good wifi was available everywhere.
Hotel of verity
GlasgowNickon 02/08/2017 22:24Stayed here for one night on business as it was the only room I could find in Stornoway!
I stayed in room 12 which I would avoid at all costs.
The room is dark and dingy, with no natural light as the small window faces directly into another wall. The kitchen's extractor fan is right next to the window and is very very noisy, especially with the window open, which I had no choice in doing as my room was incredibly stuffy.
The room was tidy but very tired and in need of some upgrades and a deep clean. I found dust piling up along the skirting board. I'm not the type to pick up on this usually but it was pretty apparent even when lying in bed.
Other silly things like the TV remote batteries being flat were quite annoying when the TV has no manual buttons and the back of the remote is secured with a screw!
The hotel advertises that some of the rooms have been renovated as shown on their website, but as of August 2017, room 12 has not.
The hotel has renovated the bathrooms, which are modern and have decent shower pressure.
The hotels WiFi is pretty quick as well at 8Mbs.
At £116 pn I don't think I will be back in a hurry!!!
