Well hummm.
Jack Bon 22/06/2017 02:08At the last minute my wife suggested that we take our three grandsons ( 1,4,8 ) to the Gardens where she often went as a child . We stayed in a large cabin which was spacious if a little dated . It was large and had a beautiful screened in porch , full kitchen and barbecue area . Rain was expected , and arrived , on our second day so we spent every hour of the first one at the beach . It was pleasant , but bring your own chairs , umbrellas , etc as the rented ones are a rip off . There are several very nice restaurants near to the property so dining is varied and good . All in all , we would return . The help was very pleasant and the area is as well . I can see it more as a family reunion kind of place .
DANGEROUS. SCARY. HORRIBLE.

2. BUMPED to a cabin. If I wanted to go camping I would have booked it. This is staring off well.
3. Cabins have stairs. Nice to know I'll be carrying my heavy luggage down a trail covered in first debris and then up 6 stairs. I have a bad back. Greeeaaaat.
4. Both key cards didn't work. Awesome. I get to carry the heavy luggage back down the stairs and reload my car. Drive to real hotel where I'm not staying.
5. New keys, back to the mosquito infested woods cabin. I get to transport and carry my luggage up 6 stairs again. Who needs a gym?
6. I walk into 1980. An Adjoining door. Great.
Easy access for rapists and murders!
It was locked. I unlocked and tried to open it. Didn't work so I moved the bed frame in front of it just in case.
GLAD I did.
*as a woman traveling on business I ALWAYS move a piece of furniture over the adjoining door.
Came back from my conference and a little after 10pm as I was getting ready for bed some man on the other side OPENED THE DOOR.
Had I not had that piece of furniture over it,
I WOULD HAVE BEEN ATTACKED.
Or KILLED.
Why was a strange man trying to force his way into my room?
The door opened 3 inches. I saw a man's face! He had dark hair. I yelled out what the ... and heard "sorry."
SORRY?! Are you kidding me. I wished I brought my gun.
I thought about sleeping in my rental car.
At this point, I would have left any other hotel but guess what?! This place is in the middle nowhere. I'm trapped. And it's late. This is scary.
I called the front desk. They sent a maintenance woman. I hear her golf cart as she arrives.
She checked the lock then helps me move the whole bed over the door. We slide the mattress off the frame. I love all of this working out. Did I mention I have back issues already ?!
Maybe they could invest in BETTER LOCKS?
I manage to calm down. Two hours later, IT HAPPENS AGAIN.
Now I'm beyond enraged and freaked out.
Like a trapped animal.
The walls are paper thin. I can hear this $&"!@ trying to open the door again.
I get out of bed and start screaming expletives at the wall STOP TOUCHING MY DOOR! And started beating on the wall.
Then I call the front desk. They want to send security to check my door.
I tell them to go next door and identify these psychos immediately. I'm yelling so I know they heard me.
Security calls next door. I hear the phone ring and ring because the walls are paper thin. No one answers. Does security come over? NO
Instead the rent-a-cop calls me on the phone: "ma'an, I'm security. The lock is a thumb lock and it opens from both sides..." I cut him off mid-sentence.
I know how a lock works. I checked it. And I've installed them in my house. I know a lot about how a lock works. But ya know what? The door opened and I saw 3" of light and stranger trying to get into my room.
Wow. I should have called the REAL police but I was so freaked out, I didn't.
Needless to say, I didn't sleep at all.
So lovely when I'm at a conference and am supposed to be working - not a zombie. But I did get to tell all of my female colleagues about what happened. Some said they bring a guest so they aren't alone because they don't feel safe.
And also they told me that conference guests don't get to stay in the hotel. Information that could have been useful before I made a reservation.
This was a nightmare.
I got a refund and the front desk women are all sympathetic and very helpful.
However I kept thinking maybe if they didn't demote me to that HOVEL in the first place, none of this would have happened.
That'll teach ya.
Visit to Callaway Gardens - Mountain Creek Inn
rhondag844on 16/06/2017 04:34Our room at Mountain Creek Inn had flying insects. We had to call the front desk to ask for soap to be brought to the room and had to call twice to the front desk for a functioning coffee maker. The Mountain Creek Inn is in serious need of some maintenance. Deferred maintenance is apparent here.
The Butterfly Gardens were excellent and well worth visiting. The grounds were perfect.
Disappointed
DrDeanFlon 15/06/2017 20:48The Sibley center that had hosted many tropical plants is closed. We have been told it may be revamped and opened again in a few years, but it will be missed. Mr. Cason's vegetable garden is also closed.
There are still beautiful flowers around the property, but not in one spot as the Sibley Center.
If you do choose to go, rent a golf cart, it is much easier to get around and very handy.
Rediscover Callaway
lamos5on 04/06/2017 18:00My family and I spent Memorial Day at Callaway Gardena. The small quaint town of Pine Mountain looked inviting, and we look forward to visiting it on our next short trip from Atlanta. It's been about 7 years since my last visit to Callaway Gardena. Not much has changed. Robin Lake beach area was nice, but it seems that it could use more upkeep. There's a lot of potential for this park. It's so big, I wonder why they have not added a campground? Nonetheless, it was so relaxing that I upgraded my day pass to an annual family pass. I understand that they offer free movies, music, fireworks, and the FSU circus during the summer. We're looking forward to coming back during the summer.
