Chose 'Camelia Studios' from the great reviews and was very pleased with all aspects of the property; great location for tavernas, restaurants, shops and bus stops. I chose a sea view room which had a fabulous view and was very clean. Dora and Dia make you feel so welcome; they are wonderful !! I would return anytime.
Nice, cosy place ideally located on a beautiful sandy beach. Close to shops, restaurants, bus stops. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is ideal for sunny holidays. We enjoyed every day of our stay there. Thank you, Dora and Dia!
So I got married & introduced Mr Choosi__Lady to the fabulous Dora & Dia at Camelia!
You may have read my previous reviews and will therefore know I fell in love with this little gem on my 1st trip - a Shirley Valentine Experience!
So Camelia is becoming our 2nd home; however in 2015 yet again Camelia surpassed itself on the comfort level! With up graded ensuites and new interior decor; this previously rustic gem has now begun to shine even brighter, making it a worthwhile competitor to the big hotels, and a top place to stay only 45 mins from Chania airport.
Super comfy beds offer an excellent night's sleep. Fresh coffee, yogurt & honey, breakfast on our balcony overlooking the fabulous sandy beach, listening to the restful lapping of the crystal clear Mediterranean sea will have you smitten on day 1; if there ever a need for top dollar relaxation it's after organising a wedding!
I should just mention now; to avoid disappointment it is important to mention you want a sea view on booking! The ever helpful Dora will always seek to oblige, but she cannot mindread or perform miracles yet! Haha.
So what can I say this year that is different to my other visits? PLENTY!
If you want to see more of this beautiful island hire transport, if you have a European sat nav it will work a treat and Camelia is an ideal base to see western Cretan villages & beaches.
We had fabulous days and I have reviewed individually the beautiful beaches of Falasarna and Elafonisi, the island of Gramvousa & Balos beach, which we visited by ferry. We drove out to the breathtaking White Mountains, stopped at Omalos (the head of the Samaria Gorge) for a sumptuous lunch at Xyloskalo Restaurant (see review).
We also used the buses (every 20-30 mins & hourly through the night in peak season) to visit Chania old Port exploring the pretty cobbled backstreets of traditional shops & squares.
Personally I think Rethmyon's fortress is not a patch on Chania's Venetian harbour, but I'm probably a little biased by many happy memories, see my reviews on Amphora, Ta Chalkina & Kritamon!
It is safe to say that thanks to Camelia's wonderful family Parmakeli, in particular Dora & Dia our honeymoon was a truely wonderful experience and I'm happy to report that Mr Chosi_Lady is as smitten as me!
We will be visiting in 2016 this time flying in to Heraklion and taking a few days to explore eastern Crete beaches & villages, then on to Camelia to recharge our somewhat flat batteries.
We also want to walk Samaria Gorge so we are going to stay overnight in beautiful Agia Roumeli before catching the ferry to the inaccessible by road Loutro, then on to Chora Sfakia and heading back to Heraklion for the flight home.
This hotel has big rooms that are 100% Clean, the rooms also has a coffee maker and many other cooking Tools that you can use if you want to..
Each room comes with a balcony as well were you can sit and relax. The hotel is placed directly to the beach. The location of this hotel is in the area of Kato Stalos about 7 kilometers west of the Town of Chania. You can take local buses both to Chania in the east and Platanias in the west many times a day for a very cheap price.
In Kato Stalo you will find many restaurants, shops, supermarkets and a long beach.
Back to hotel again. In this hotel you will find a responsible person by the name DORA.
Dora is the most Lovely and service minded person i have seen for a long time in an hotel. She realy takes care of her costumers in the most wounderful way.
I recomend this hotel of all my heart for other Travelers to visit.
This hotel and the fantastic lady Dora will make you feel good here.
Lovely location right on the beach. Room was more than adequate for our needs. Good supply of kitchen equipment for cooking.
We stayed B&B - breakfast was at a different hotel, only international buffet style but ok for us.
Dora and staff were lovely. The water authority had problems supplying water for 24 hours but staff turned up with water as soon as they were made aware of the situation. Didnt spoil our holiday. Would stay again. We arrive just as restaurants were re opening but still found many lovely places to eat. Maria's and Kri-Kri being our favourites.
Bus to Chania €1.80 each - tip early buses are usually full. Buses after 10.30am quieter. Bus to Kolibarym also €1.80. Nice walk back about 1 hour.
