What People are saying

Terrible

magicgrden13on 16/11/2016 14:57

Had stayed at Campanile before, which have been fine, but this is one to avoid. The room was dirty, mould was growing up the bathroom walls, and the basin plug constantly leaked. We had booked breakfast which was just unbelievable. All the croissants had gone, as had all the French bread. The breakfast selection was terrible and at 9 euros each was a total rip off. As has been reported in other reviews it was a very bad experience AVOID

Awful

As we had stayed in a Campanile before we thought this hotel would be similar. However on arrival we could see we were going to be disappointed. The receptionist was not at all welcoming, the carpet in the lounge was threadbare, inside and outside was in need of repair and refurbishment, our room - although on the whole clean - had a broken shower and parts missing. The evening meal was not edible, we should have gone to Buffalo Grill! The breakfast was no better. We were charged twice for the room (as we paid on line when we booked) and then had to pay again on check out. A receipt was not available. This was not a good start to our trip away and do hope that the Louvre Group take note of reviews as it seems this hotel has rated badly for two years. The best part of the hotel? Leaving it and not returning!

Extremely bad service!

After a long day on the bike we arrived very tired in this hotel. We did the camino de Santiago (The Way of St James) and after 40 days of travelling and hotels we can say this was the absolute worst place to stay. The lady at the desk was extremely unfriendly, didn't even say hello. She could only scream: 'creditcard! .. Euro's! Passport!' Incredible. They should fire her. Looking for a place to stay? Choose something else.

Avoid

Booked on line as it was convenient for the motorway and was a recognised hotel group. However on driving into the car park we immediately realised we may have made a mistake as the place looked run down and neglected. When we went to reception our fears were confirmed as the lounge and restaurant were both drab and uninviting and the woman on reception was very rude and didn't speak one word of English and wasn't even interested in trying to communicate. When we asked in our pigeon English if our reservation included breakfast her answer was 6-30, which she spoke in French. We met a French customer who spoke fluent English and his words were " this place is a rip off and the staff are very rude and he wouldn't stay there again "

...first time and the last

This was our first stay in a Campanile hotel. We have used other budget hotels before eg Formula 1, Etap etc and been quite satisfied.
Location.
Not the best location ever, on a scruffy, busy, noisy industrial/commercial estate, but handy for a supermarche and a few restaurants including a Macdonalds and a Subway.
Cleanliness.
The bed linen was clean, the bathroom and sanitaryware were clean, the floor of the room was NOT. Underneath the beds hadn't seen a broom or mop for some time. We cleaned up some spilt water with a napkin and it was black with dirt. Outside was reasonably clean.
Restaurant.
We arrived in the middle evening so did not expect a gastronomic explosion. Food taste is of course largely subjective and we find a lot of French food to be overrated. But if you like scrambled eggs barely cooked and swimming in a pool of olive oil that has run off a green salad and cold, limp fries, then you will not be disappointed.
Service.
All I can say is that the three staff we interacted left a lot to be desired. They were scruffy, ignorant, unhelpful and rude.
General.
The cups were the flimsiest plastic or foam efforts I have ever encountered, which broke if gently squeezed. The TV remote did not work, not that it mattered because there were no English speaking channels anyway.
The whole building is like something out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie, or perhaps the inspiration for Hotel California.
As I said, this was our first Campanile stay. And it wasn't cheap at 60 euros! If the standard at the Chatellerault is the norm across the group, then it is the last time for us. The next day we stayed at a Sercotel which I have also blogged - polar opposites.
