Basic, comfortable but not as good value as other budget hotels.
mary hon 01/08/2015 22:17We had incorrectly booked a one night stay in a nearby hotel but arrived a week late. Needing three rooms for our party, the hotel of our choice were unable to help us, but did ring the neighbouring Campanile. Campanile were able to accomodate us, thankfully, but at almost triple the price of our preferred hotel!
Our group had two ground floor rooms and a first floor room - all twin rooms as no doubles were available. The rooms were pleasant enough - all three were identical as you would expect in a budget chain, and were clean and comfortable. It had the feeling of a motel rather than a hotel, of the 1950s America variety. But we slept well, the rooms were clean and we were grateful to have room over our heads!
We had breakfast in the Campanile restaurant, an adjoining building. It was buffet style and plentiful. Croissants, pain au chocolat, toast, cereal, fruit, yogurt... lots of choice.
In all I would normally recommend this hotel, but being familiar with other hotels in the area (I visit Lisieux regularly) I would suggest you try the others first. It was ok, but there are others who are cheaper and more salubrious.
Unexpected stay in Normandy!!
kevin Gon 21/06/2015 14:51Slightly tired room, but the bed was large and comfortable. The linen is greying but was clean.
The Buffet entree was a little disappointing - no salad on my night of eating. And the selection was very poor compared to other Campaniles I have stayed in all around France.
The staff are very friendly and do speak English without being prompted. Spiderman at reception is a very good "greeter".
Obviously capital expenditure is required but the hotel is clean and reasonably comfortable for the tariff.
Not prepared for big groups
Richard Fon 17/06/2015 21:44We stayed here as part of a large bike ride through France. They were not prepared for a large group, consistently running out of glasses, chairs and other essentials even though we were booked in. The meal was also poorly prepared with the steak being VERY rare without consideration for asking how people liked them cooked and they'd clearly been prepared earlier as were cold when served, along with what looked like instant mash potato.
What stopped this being given a poor rating was the staff, particularly the lady who appeared to be the manager. She was very accommodating and happy to help us as much as she could in the circumstances.
Adequate
EileenD645on 11/06/2015 17:01We have nearly always used Campaniles while driving through France and found them to be of a good basic standard. The restaurants in particular usuallyoffer good value meals for travellers.
Alas this was not the case in Lisieux where we found the restaurant lacked choice and the meal offered was very basic indeed. Such a pity that no effort was put into presentation or content. Poulet et frites was just that with not a morsel of anything else to add colour to the plate. Breakfast was much the same with limited choice and, we felt, a take it or leave it attitude.
The room was in need of TLC and we felt that the general standard at this Campanile was not what we expected.
On a positive note the staff were pleasant and welcoming.
OK hotel
Socccaon 11/06/2015 06:46Good Campanile hotel, within walking distance to the city centre, clean rooms, friendly staff, free parking and free Wi-Fi. We didn't have any meal, but it looked good. Price is adequate for what you get.
