What People are saying
Poor customer service
on 13/08/2017 15:27First of all, the pools have too much chlorine. You can literally smell it. The cabins we were in shook whenever someone would walk on the other side, disturbing our sleep.
But the thing I hated the most was the false promotion. We were told that 7 people could stay in each cabin we reserved for, but when we got there, they told us to get another one because seven people aren't allowed, even though we showed them the email coming from their OWN staffㅡthey still made us pay for an additional cabin. Also, it was stated on our reservation that we could still stay by the pool even after check out but we were not even allowed to get into the pool area BEFORE checkout time. The staff were inconsiderate and inconsistent about what they were promoting before they take your money. There weren't bus stops nearby either to get back to the centre of Rome.
Though the good thing was, the surrounding was relaxing enough.
But there weren't much to do for adults.
Lovely site, poor neighbourhood
John Gon 13/08/2017 09:34We stayed here for 10 nights. The site is immaculate, pools are great and the restaurant is pretty good but the surrounding area is quite run down. I really missed not being able to cycle off to a nearby village...You can take a shuttle bus into the train station for Rome but there is no shuttle bus back to the site ! This makes it really awkward as you have to be very lucky with the public bus schedule and taxis are hard to get.
Lovely staff throughout
432patrickhon 10/08/2017 00:52I stayed here with my wife and my son and his wife and their three children. The camp site was big and beautiful and the facilities for the children were excellent. There was a courtesy bus provided to take you to a nearby rail station to enable you to get to Rome for a visit. The onsite facilities were good with a restaurant with good food and the staff were very nice but the service was a little lacking most probably due to language difficulties. There was a swimming pool and a very large play pool which was only about 40 cm deep but which had water slides for the children to use and the supervision at both pools was very good. The nearest beach was a good bit away from the camp siteand would require a car or a taxi to get access to, but in the very hot weather we experienced well worth the trouble.
As Fabulous as its name!
HappymummyKildareon 07/08/2017 14:04My husband, myself and three teenagers 13, 14 and 17 spent two weeks at Camping Fabulous in July 2017.
Our only previous experience of camping holidays was Sanguli, Salou, Spain and given the price of this campsite compared to that we did not have especially high expectations. We chose this site mainly because of its proximity to Rome and planned to travel into the city on a regular basis.
As it turned out we had temperatures of 36 most days so rather than have 3 cranky teens to contend with, transferring from bus to train to metro and then queuing to see the main attractions, we chose to go on a 3-hour walking/driving night-time trip into Rome booked through the campsite and stayed put the rest of the time. The heat was not an issue on site. Hopefully we’ll return again during the cooler months for the city based experience.
The night trip is very enjoyable with a nice balance of sightseeing from the bus (Castel S, Angelo, Citta del Vaticano, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Piazza Venezia, Colosseo, Circo Massimo, Santa Maria Maggiore, Termini, Piazza della Rebublica, via Nazionale, via Veneto) and walking into the areas where public transport can’t go (Trinita dei monti, Piazza di Spagna, Fontana di Trevi, Temio Adriano, Pantheon, Piazza Navona). Even at night it was very hot but good value for money, informative and I would highly recommend it. You see all the main sights but obviously only from the outside.
The campsite is very clean and nicely laid out. We booked through Vacansoleil and our mobile (Leonardo-Waikiki) was in a lovely convenient location and nestled beneath the wonderful trees. I was surprised at the space between mobiles, it felt nice and private, not on top of our neighbours but close enough to pass the time of day and be sociable if you wanted to. I loved watching the bats at night! The mobile was clean and contained everything required. Flooring was a bit worn and had cigarette burns but was perfectly serviceable. On arrival, we discovered that some of the windows could not be secured but this was promptly sorted out. The air conditioning was included and much appreciated!
The pools are lovely, especially the shallow lagoon for families with younger children or adults wanting to relax on an inflatable or play ball games. No balls or inflatables are permitted in the smaller but deeper pool. Both pools do get busy at times, especially at weekends but there is always room for a dip to cool off. My only criticism is that there was only one set of steps at one corner of the deeper pool. Following a recent injury my elbow is still very weak and I found it difficult to haul myself out. I would have appreciated more steps especially as kids like to play on the steps and sometimes you had to wait a while before their parents would move them out of the way. Also, you had to intrude on the area roped off for the aqua-cycling to use them too. I didn’t do the aqua-cycling but my daughter did and it was a great amenity and always very popular.
At 50, I didn’t think the foam party would be my cup of tea.....but it is ridiculously good fun, for all ages!!!
There were always sun beds available (and loads of spares) and usually umbrellas too, no matter what the time of day and if you wished there was also a fabulous view of the city below at one end of the lagoon. There were two whirlpools but they tended to be occupied by young children most of the time.
There have been comments about the fact that a central area of this site has what appear to be permanent pitches occupied by Italian families. We had no issue with this whatsoever. This area of the site was as well kept as the rest and the Italian children were no worse than any other nationality when it came to flying around on bikes or the go-carts that could be hired on site. I am surprised that there aren’t more collisions and injuries as unsupervised kids do travel at speed often not looking and we did have a few near misses. This is not the campsites fault but is due to a lack of parental supervision. I liked the fact that there was a high proportion of Italian holidaymakers, we were in Italy after all!
The on-site shop was handy for essentials but we did most of our shopping in the supermarket a short walk away. Check out its location before you set off as it’s easy to miss and not visible from the main road. Although the road is busy, there is a narrow walkway, so safe enough.
We knew there wasn’t going to be much in terms of organised activities for teens and that the animation activities are geared more at adults and young children. This is a pity but my gang coped fine doing their own thing. The organised sport activities did appear highly competitive! The pool based activities were less so and more fun.
When not cooking for ourselves, we mainly used the on-site takeaway and poolside bar. We ate in the restaurant one night. The food was all reasonably priced and generally very good quality for cheap and cheerful. As has been stated on other reviews they don’t bring out all the food together in the restaurant, but once you half expect that it really isn’t an issue.
The staff throughout the site were extremely friendly and there is a nice relaxed atmosphere. We really enjoyed our very lazy 2 weeks.
Would highly recommend Stefano’s RomeCabs for reliable, efficient airport transfers but the camp site does have a transfer service too.
Thank you Camping Fabulous, you really were!
Perfect for a visit to Rome with some sunbathing inbetween!
Privvyon 05/08/2017 20:36We stayed here for 8 days over may half term. It was an absolute bargain for a two bed chalet/bungalow. Our children were a bit old for the animation but we all loved the pool area and the choice of eateries.
Fantastically placed for public transport into Rome.
I would definitely recommend this site.
