The desk clerk was very friendly and I spoke to him about sports for a little while… And the lady who was there in the morning was extremely friendly and even funny.... maybe the most friendly manager I've ever encountered in a hotel.
Now the reason for the poor rating:
I had a problem here one time and I gave the manager two opportunities to remedy the problem.
I arrived at 2 AM, the parking lot was full and the hotel was fully booked. The only parking spot left at the building was a handicapped spot. My sister is handicapped which makes me extra sensitive about people who don't need handicap spots parking in them. I've never once open till this evening parked in a handicapped spot. I spoke to the desk clerk and told her that the parking lot was full and the only spot available was handicap. She said it would be fine. Since the hotel was fully booked and everyone had arrived it was not possible that anyone would need that spot. The next morning I had a ticket from the city of Merrillville. I spoke to the city and explained the situation and they told me I would have to take it up with the judge if I wanted to challenge the ticket. I even included an email that I got from the hotel confirming the situation . It would cost me more money to challenge the ticket than It would be to pay it so I just paid it but it was over $100.
I made the hotel aware of the situation and they did not offer to do anything… The next time I stayed here I told the desk clerk about it again and said they asked that the manager be aware that I was here again. The manager again did nothing.
There are many other hotels nearby and I believe I will have to pick one of those next time I'm through this area.
Home a way from home, Great Job - Am staying again
WayneP412on 30/04/2017 10:51Excellent location and facility for my business stay. I needed a place that was going to be the home away for about 6 weeks. Candlewood did the trick. Mark (Mgr) and his staff, were friendly, accommodating, and welcoming - upon arrival and departure each day of my stay. My room was clean and serviced weekly. I felt secure in the location with plenty of choices to dine around the motel, (Portillo's as one) from steaks to fast food and other. Shopping (not for me) is across the road at the South Lake Mall and many more up and down #30. This was home away from home.

jecompuon 08/04/2017 19:28Location was excellent the staff was friendly and extremely helpful. Maintained well and clean Had issue with the room but staff could not help. (paid more to get a queen size instead got handicap room with twin) The matrass should be replaced, other than that it was a good stay

Great Hotel and Awesome Staff

Miles at check in was attentive, bright and extremely friendly. The manager came out to say hi. Complimentary breakfast items in their little store and rooms are in awesome shape. Will be back soon!
