Exciting Experience

You are spot on with your accomodation,(especially the decor) very good and befitting your overall decor (roadhouse in the 50's / 60's). The bathroom was excellent in function and decor. The restaurant with bar and the open verandah with all the old cars are a scream - absolutely brilliant. The old cars are a show stopper and especially during winter evenings when a fire is lit in one of them inside......Brilliant.!!!
The food was not spectacular but absolutely satisfactory and nicely presented.
We had only 2 gripes which you MUST seriously consider and rectify and a third is a suggestion
1: The service for the outside tables was non existent. I had to go inside on all occasions and ask for service. If the outside tables are intended as self service, then signs should be put up, otherwise you need to discipline your staff severely, because they were inside and "chatting" at all times. 2.The one person at the till is totally insufficient, especially during mornings and afternoons, when gusts are arriving or leaving or purchasing something or just making inquiries.
Our suggestion would be to put up some fake Juke boxes and play 50's and 60's music via your central system (You have DsTv and there is / are a channel for that type of music You could add 40'music as well, e.g. swing, blues. etc. That would be more befitting a roadhouse within the Route 66 context and the displayed cars outside/inside).
Apart from the crappy roadsurfaces, which are not your problem, our stay was a memorable one, we loved it there and we certainly will recommend the roadhouse.

Nice location - the evening dining could be better...

The Canon Roadhouse has a good position to start your Fish River discovery from there. It´s a lovely place for end-of-life vehicles to and has lot of clean rooms. The food (especially the evening meal) could be better. For the breakfast is a buffet.

Unusual establishment

This place is very unusual with lots of old items around the place. There were lots of old cars of all kinds, signs and various other items. This place is also a cafe serving food and drink which is excellent. There is also a small souvenir shop. It is well worth a visit if only to see all the unusual items. The cafe isn't far from Fish River Canyon and a good place to have a snack lunch as we did.

Good menu great restaurant

a true oasis in the middle of the desert. Collectibles in the property truly amazing. Could be the wild west. this is a must do stop when visiting the Fish River Canyon. Staff hospitable and helpful..

Unexpected Desert Retreat

My husband and I stayed here as part of our trip through Namibia and this was our first stay at a Gondwana property...this experience was so amazing that we rebooked half our trip to stay at Gondwana properties. We cannot say enough good things about this specific hotel and the brand overall. First, this is a great location near Ai Ais and Fish River Canyon; lovely facilities with great walking trails and both hotel and camping options on site. Food was great and available throughout the day; there was also a shop where you could purchase wine and other goods. The roadhouse is also a fun eclectic place with car memorabilia from around the world. Staff was very friendly and willing to assist. Rooms were cleanly and well appointed, however there are no TVs and the internet is spotty, then again you don't come somewhere like this to watch TV and check your iPhone! Would definitely stay here again and we will definitely look into the other Gondwana properties in this area. If you stay here, you can also get a map that shows where all of Gondwana's properties in Namibia are (pretty much near anything you would want to see in Namibia). Service and quality is consistent across the properties and we appreciated that they hire and work with the local community both for staffing and food. Finally, this hotel and Gondwana overall provides excellent value per dollar especially considering most of your options in this region are campsites or very expensive exclusive lodges.
