What People are saying

Nicest hotel staff EVER!

travel4250on 24/05/2017 23:08

When someone asks what made you go to St. Lucia for vacation the response has to be the people. Yes the weather and scenery are great, and that may be the initial draw, but there is so much more here. My wife and I just returned from a week-long trip to St. Lucia staying at the Marigot Bay Resort. We have to say we don’t think we’ve ever received such great hospitality in any location ever! We have lived and traveled all over the world, and while St. Lucia may be underdeveloped in terms of modern tourism like Hawaii and the Bahamas, they more than make up for it with genuine hospitality for tourists.

Kudos to manager, David, at Capella Marigot Bay Resort because your staff are fabulous. Yes the hotel is beautiful and the food great, but we loved the staff the most. We traded thoughtful notes in our room with Natasha and Leona and enjoyed friendly chats with pool and breakfast staff. Also, we loved the “get to know the manager’s event” as my wife learned a little Creole.

We will be back! Happy Travels.

Marigot Bay trail

Not well advertised but worth a trip. There is a trail from behind Doolitles and it is lovely. Get the free crossing across the bay and ask at Doolittle and they will tell you the route (or see the map in the pictures below). Takes between 1 hour and 1.5 hours. Beware the route coming down from behind the rainforest cafe as it is very steep - I would only go up that way.

Great Time

This was my 2nd trip to St Lucia and 1st visit to Capella Marigot Bay Resort. The staff was phenomenal to me (one young man ran after me thinking I didn't pay for fish cakes) everyone one else was absolutely great!!! I stayed in room 1623. Which is at the very top of the hill. This hotel does not have a shuttle to take you to your room. Be prepared to walk unless you request a closer room or insist on being driven. Every night the turndown service was complete with snacks, welcoming notes from the maid and the mosquito net drawn. The Rum Cave is a must do even if you're not a rum drinker. By the end you will be. The pool bar was friendly, the gym was clean and the property is well maintained. The breakfast options are expensive. No other way to put it. I definitely recommend this resort.

Let down by repetitive dishonesty, and lack of attention to detail

Jimmy Won 06/05/2017 18:17

We stayed here on the second half of our trip to St Lucia, having spent the previous half week elsewhere on the island. Having really enjoyed the first half, we were excited to come here, and wanted so hard to like it, but in the end were left sorely disappointed by a series of issues.

Firstly, the positive. This is a charming property set in the beautiful surroundings of the steep hillside overlooking Marigot Bay. The staff are generally pleasant and welcoming. The food is good, better than we found elsewhere on the island, and there are a range of options.

One of the primary reasons for choosing Capella was the size of the rooms advertised on their website, at a pleasant 85 sq m. However, on check in, we were given a small, dark room at the back of the resort, next to the main road. The room faced the exterior fence of the property, on the hillside and got no natural light. It was nowhere near the advertised 85 square meters, and was also at the top of a very steep hill, a strenuous walk from the rest of the hotel. We did not know it at the time, but this was the first in series of dishonest treatment.

When we complained that this is not what we booked (Standard Resort Room), we were initially told that all the standard rooms were the same size. Second occurrence of dishonesty. After some haggling, to their credit, they agreed to move us to another Standard room, with more light. It was much bigger, and more in line with what we expected.

The hotel has a number of bars, and in the guide book, and on the menu, each of them advertise a happy hour at different times of the day, with 50% off drinks. We went to a number of these, and each and every time, the staff 'forgot' to apply the happy hour discount. We had to ask for it to be taken off the bill. Every time. Sigh. More dishonesty.

And now the breakfast. A buffet breakfast for two persons is priced at $84 USD (inc tax). This is absurd. However, guests have little choice. The standard rooms have no kitchenette, and Marigot Bay is really quite isolated. There is the Marina Bay cafe, but the options there are very limited (coffee, scrambled eggs or banana bread & muffins).

If the hotel wishes to increase revenue, why not be transparent and honest about it, and increase the nightly rate, rather than try to take advantage of a hungry captive customer? There are a-la-carte options, such as fruit and eggs, at $64 USD per couple. However, this is literally two eggs on a plate and a couple cubes of fruit from the buffet.

To top all that off, a phantom $20 USD tip was added to one of the cheques we signed. Go ahead, help yourself!

Aside from the repetitive dishonesty, there were a number of issues a hotel that aims for this standard ought to be on top of, but isn't, such as:

- There is moss growing all over the side walls of the pool. I have never seen this in a 4* hotel, never mind 5*
- Mould in the bathroom, around the shower
- Bathroom toiletries/kits not replenished

Overall, a disappointing stay. The staff seem nice, and seem to try, but there's just something missing here.
