What People are saying

Great hotel, great people.

Avril Son 24/02/2017 02:14

I stayed only one night at Casa Carmel.....where to start. Well, after many airports and planes, landing in the evening at GuateMala airport...I was exhausted. Raoul , the spouse of the owner met me, smiling, holding a sign in bold writing. He speaks fluent Enģlish, and while driving me to the hotel, we had a stimulating and intelligent discourse on the general state of things. I like him. On arrival , a humble street at night, a large and sturdy locked gate and we were greeted by Rosa, a woman who sees to things like breakfasts and such...probably much more. First of all, the historic building is stunning. It is an intact historically preserved building in fabulous shape. Dark woods, wonderful staircase, the doors are exquisite. The ceilings are high and heavily beamed. The hotel is decorated with taste and elegance. I happened to be the only person staying that night...a beautifully strange feeling. The windows in my room, wooden shutters, terrace beyond with flowers ....I was enchanted! I want to thank Raul and Sonya...and I certainly will recommend this hotel to anyone who asks. A lovely hotel made even more special by the care and kindness of the owners.

Special stay, def. recomended

I can definitely recommend this hotel. We were picked up from the airport, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are nice, kinda historical with a very special atmosphere, it's really unique. The garden was beautiful too. In the morning we even got a tipical guatemalan breakfast, which was delicious. Special thanks to Raul and Sophie for giving us useful advice about the city, Guatemala itself. Also for arranging us a bus to Antigua for a very good price, as foreigners we saved a lot of money with all those tips.

A special place to stay

This Casa is a beautifully maintained historic house in the old district. I was well looked after and very comfortable. Beyond my bedroom there were gracious sitting areas indoor and out. Owner Sophie was also wonderful in organizing tours and transfers.

As good as can be expected

This is a lovely, restored home; it was comfortable and very clean; the owners were nice; breakfast was decent.

The negatives: though its walkable to a central street where you can eat and shop, its not in the best area - we felt safe enough, but I wouldn't walk around there at night. No one stays overnight there with you; there is no shuttle, but they will call a taxi for you that will arrive promptly; They provide towels and soap but no shampoo or other amenities that I expect from a hotel (not a hostel); the wifi is terrible due to old, thick walls.

No late arrivals...

GuateMallon 25/02/2016 18:56

Unfortunately we ran very late in arriving into Guatemala City. We had made arrangements to arrive at 9pm but it was after midnight when we finally made it into the city. When we called, we were advised that they would not allow us to come. Very upsetting and left us without a place to stay for the night after an exhausting journey. We had to drive around until we found another hotel. So we paid for two hotels that night and used one. We would have called sooner to let them know we were running very late but our cell phone died.
