A group of us spent a week here. We loved how the rooms were actually small apartments with each having a private bedroom . We all gathered in one room to play cards a few nights . Our room also had a washer and dryer which was very helpful . The pool is nice .The free breakfast every morning is fantastic ! Fresh fruits , desserts , good coffee ,and, many food choices in a buffet style . A few days they were making great custom omlets for anyone. We always sat at a very nice big table outside, on a beautiful porch. The people were just so attentive to you for anything you might need . Some people spoke some English which helped since most of our group did not speak Spanish. I cannot forget the Cantina outside which we visited most every night . The drinks were excellent . The one woman Daniela made us the most delicious drink . She is very nice to talk with. We just loved her! She became a friend to us. Most all the meals we ate there were so delicious ! They must have very good chefs. The hotel also has a travel advisor on staff. The young man Edison spoke excellent English. He was incredibly nice to us, and , extremely helpful . We were able to arrange tours there, Uber rides, etcetera . The only thing I would recommend the hotel do is improve some of the furniture in the rooms . Otherwise a very wonderful place to stay !!!

Hidden gem tucked in an unsuspecting part of San Jose. We loved the Casa Conde as our last stop on our honeymoon. The rates were very affordable and the service spectacular. The service of the staff far outweighed the lack of interior aesthetics, and the exterior decor and grounds were beautiful.
We had dinner at the Casa Conde restaurant and had impeccable service from the staff, particularly Ricardo. He went above and beyond to help us celebrate our honeymoon! We had so much fun conversing with him that by the end of the meal we considered him a friend!

The breakfast, service and pool area here were great. The rooms are a little sterile and could use some updating and a little touch up.
Having a washing machine, dryer and full kitchen was an added bonus and very helpful.
This hotel isn't really close to anything, especially not the airport (25 minute drive). However a short taxi ride takes you into downtown San Jose.

After reading some negative reviews, I didn't see this hotel as outdated or even 'budget style', we paid £120 for 2 nights for a 2 bedroom apartment, each room with a double bed, kitchen area with washer/drying, oven, kettle etc. A living room with TV, considering how much you would have to pay for this sort of room in the UK or somewhere in Europe very good value. It is out of the way and you do need to drive or get taxis, we stayed here after a busy 3 weeks travelling from Guatemala to San Jose and just wanted somewhere to relax and thats what we got, hot tub was lovely, had in room massages! The food was nice, the staff were nice. there is a bar but when we stayed it was quiet, there were only me and my friend in there! The pool is not heated so us quite a shock if you jump in unknowingly! Not somewhere you would stay if you wanted to be close to the city and had a big itinerary of things to do!

This former mental asylum turned into a hotel has all the interesting history and folklore of Costa Rica, no professional hotel staff, everything has the Costa Rican "Ticos" style a mix of good hearted and naive souls. The decoration is ethnic, artisanal and minimalistic. There is no elevator so prepare to carry your luggage to the second floor if you are located there. The food is served in a buffet, standard Costa Rican Menu, nothing elaborated, the pool, cultural decorations and the gardens are pretty, but the place needs a big repair and better cleanliness standards. The rooms are like little apartments with a kitchen, dining room and 2 bedrooms. The ambience has a sadness of times gone and an old melancholy. Outside the walls and gate of the hotel the strangers look suspicious, don't step outside of Casa Conde Hotel.
