What People are saying

Good average stay

Justin Hon 03/08/2017 07:28

This is no bells and whistles hotel. It's a clean decent little B&B that is close to the train station and a nice walk to the city center.

Less than $10€ from the train station by taxi or a 10 min walk.

Breakfast was the typical European breakfast with many different bread choices as well as juice and coffee.

The staff was really hospital and friendly.

Furniture and decor is older, but that is what I'd expect from this type of 2-3 star place.

Room also had Air conditioning that was extremely pleasant since it was 100+ degrees
Outside.

Plenty of eating places and small convenience stores, within a few blocks

I would return

Nice stay!

The B&B is in a good location, near the bus and train stations. It is even closer to Piazza Independencia, where many of the local buses stop. Moriq is a gracious host. She is from Chicago, so she is very easy to talk to in English. There is a nice garden area in the back where you can sit in peace and quiet. Breakfast is simple, but good. The room was spacious and well maintained. This is a great value in Florence.

Not a memorable stay

We booked to stay here for 2 nights. The location is fine but certainly our room was not nearly as nice as in the photos. Clean yes but I cannot say much else good about it. The owner seems rushed off her feet as there are 7 letting rooms I believe and only her and a cleaner I think running the establishment as her assistant has left. You are made to feel pretty much as tho you are there purely for the money and we didn't feel very welcome. The breakfast is dire. It's in a room which looks more like a works canteen. The 1st breakfast I did get 2 cups of coffee but only one the 2nd morning. No cereal, fresh fruit, cheese, meat, yogurt just a couple of rolls with a packet of "toast" with butter and jam and some very cheap orange juice. The absolute minimum.
We have stayed in many B and B throughout Italy and I'm afraid Casa Di Barbano would rank firmly at the bottom of our list of favourites.
I was tempted to rate the place poor but will be generous! A very budget experience for not a budget price,i'd look elsewhere for your stay in Florence.

Charming, comfortable and friendly.

We had a really wonderful time at Casa di Barbano. From the warm, friendly, hospitable staff who to the interior design and friendly presence of oddities (such as sweets, and a cat or two in the garden!) Lovely breakfast given too. Not so far from the centre either. Will definitely be booking into Casa di Barbano next time I am in Florence.

Lengthy BnB report CAsa Di Barbano

shabootieson 09/10/2016 17:52

Some quirks during our 5 day stay in the apartment we rented. Clean and like most places if you stay in Florence it is quite easy to get around. This one happens to be near the train station if you know where you are going it can take maybe a 15 walk depending on your stride. We felt safe in the area as well. Casa Di Barbano is run by a single person Moraq not a staff. She is from the US not Italian she speaks English well but communication was awkward at times.

The apartment is at the very top floor up many flights of steps. If you are unable this is not a good option for you. Upon several inquiries regarding the "balcony or terrace" I never received a response. So do not expect any "view's except the neighbors brick wall on either side and it is teeny tiny. So we didn't use it. It is a door next to your apartment not through your apartment.

While the apartment was clean (except one night keep reading) and provided all we needed it is HOT unless you run the one small AC 24/7 that is provided to cool the entire apartment but you will be reminded by Moraq that AC is expensive to run. We stayed in Sept. Summer would be unbearable.

Both website & hotel booking states daily breakfast 7:30-10:30. When asked about where we go for that it was awkward in that she stated there is no breakfast. It does say that on the website and on the hotel reservation. We didn't expect an "American" breakfast just something to wake up to in the morning. Well what ever she wants to call it she seemed insulted by my asking. Conversations should be limited we learned during our stay.

Nevertheless there was a croissant, coffee either a pot of American or she will bring Italian coffee stronger as we like it. The last morning day before we left she only brought enough coffee in a pot for one of us when she always brought just enough for 2. There is also tea, yogurt, fruit & snacks she brought to your table. One morning she had to tend to her children's school so she made guests aware "breakfast" may not be available until later then the usual time.

Lastly, we paid the morning before we left as we had an early flight the following morning. 2 issues were 1.) Daily housekeeping was not done upon returning back to the apartment that evening. Beds were not made and garbage not emptied guess since we paid that morning in advance we guessed it would happen and it did. 2.) We were asked to pay the hotel tax in cash which we were unprepared for. According to the hotel booking we made prior it did not state that but Moraq was giving us her "explanation" of Italian and what ever else she was trying to say about the tax system in Italy. We attend at another BnB in Southern Italy prior to coming here and were not asked of this.

Hope this review helps !
