Hidden Gem Near Barcelos
Phillip Con 10/05/2017 20:38We had a wonderful overnight at this old manor house near Barcelos while on the Camino de Santiago. The proprietor prepared a delicious 3-course dinner for us with a bottle of excellent red wine, and we had an equally good full breakfast the next morning. The house is a beautiful old home that has been nicely maintained. I highly recommend it!
Lovely homey stay
Gerry Non 26/09/2016 21:11We stayed at the property on 16 September for a night. The staff who welcomed us was extremely helpful and helped us with our very heavy luggage and offered to change our room to an area more convenient (no stairs).
The couple who run this family owned property welcomed and served us a delicious dinner. It was like we stated with a family in their home.
Lovely and charming property. Very personal service.
Wonderful Place
Pablo Oon 29/08/2016 23:47Incredibly romantic house in northern Portugal. Very close and helpful hosts, willing to help at any time.
Although, I would expect greater value from breakfast and room cleaning, I recommend anyone to spend a week here.
Relatively close to Barcelos, Braga and Viana do Castelo.
Like time travelling in comfort
PlanetWaves20on 05/08/2015 23:07Casa Dos Assentos was a wonderful place to spend a very relaxing day and night after a short walk from Barcelos on our Camino to Santiago from Porto. Luis was a great host and the house and gardens are a delight. We enjoyed a wonderful home cooked meal that evening and my room was like stepping back in time. The old bed was very comfortable and I slept soundly. The bells of the adjacent church will wake you for breakfast at 8:00 a.m. and very considerately stop chiming at 10:00 p.m.
Countless varieties of fruit growing all over the garden. I would be delighted to return for a longer stay.
A very individual private home
MikeFSurreyon 19/06/2015 10:56Casa dos Assentos is located in a small village on the Camino Portuguese and was a very welcome resting place after a long days walking in the sun. It is right next door to the church so is easy to find and the bells stop ringing from 10.00pm - 8.00am so a good nights sleep is assured.
A pleasant garden and swimming pool which was made good use of.
All the rooms are individual with comfortable beds and en-suite facilities.
Dinner was freshly cooked and very enjoyable whilst the wine and port were excellent.
A charming owner who was both helpful and informative on history and background to rural life in northern Portugal. A memorable stay.
