Wonderful charming hotel!

Just returned from a short stay in Holbox. Casa Iguana was a beautiful property, at a great location within everywhere you want to be, the very best beach spot, and a wonderful place to wake up to each morning especially from their oceanfront rooms. Two pools although we preferred swimming in the sea. The food is really great for beach hotel food we were pleasantly surprised! We will always stay here if given the chance!

We stayed at a few different places on Holbox, but we absolutely loved Casa Iguana and will stay with them next time we return!

Room: We had a beautiful room, looked like it was just finished, lots of eye for detail, use of natural materials, but not too rustic so that it felt clean and there was A/C but at the same time with atmosphere

Location: Right on the beach, close to other restaurants and downtown

Staff: We met Miguel the manager, he is very nice and helpful, all the other staff was as professional and friendly

Amenities: Lovely bathroom products, two nice swimming pools which allows for more privacy, nice restaurant with friendly staff, the name is El Huacalito. Books and games at the reception.

Excellent location, streamlined room, beautifully designed boutique hotel.

We stayed from April 8 to April 12 at the Hotel. When we arrived Hector (I believe) greeted us warmly and was very helpful. Our room was almost perfect, we had a balcony as requested with two hammock chairs. A bit light on surfaces/desk to be able to organize your clothing and personal effect if you are there for a longer stay. There is no safe box. But for us these were minor issues.

Service: The manager Miguel was very helpful and friendly. The service at the restaurant/bar was ok but not too friendly. By the end of our stay Carlos the waiter had warmed up and we ending up having a good time with him. As there is only one staff doing service, service on the beach is not frequent and slow but the beach is very close to the restaurant so getting your own order was not such a bad thing.

Food: The menu is light but the food is excellent! Quite reasonably priced compared to the food at the other hotels.

Facilities: There are two small pools with limited lounging area. Although very practical, we found that the beach was the best place to be. On the beach is where the problem lies... there is not enough chairs and cover from the sun for the quantitiy of room. Also, it serves as a beach bar so anyone who has food or drink can use the beach facilities. This is OK and necessary in Holbox (not alot of shades and chairs on the Island), but you need to have the quantities of chairs and palapas to offer it. It this is not the case at this hotel.

Disapointment: We could not stay for our full Holbox vacation at the Iguana because of availability. We had friends joining us so we ended up renting a small private apartment just a few steps away from the Iguana. When we left, the manager thanked us and indicated that we were welcomed to used the facilities at the beach and the pool after our departure. Which was really nice. He also indicated that the facilities on the beach were available for everyone as long as we eat and drink at the restaurant. We were really happy about that since shade and chairs are really scarce on the island. But a few days later when we were on the beach we ended up getting booted out by the waiter. He indicated that clients staying at the hotel were complaining because they did not have access to chairs on the beach. Which is fine, but you need to make your policy clear, and certainly don't make invitations if you can't honor them.... We were slightly frustrated. In the end, we would recommend the hotel but mostly we would recommend that the hotel management purchase and install chairs and pallapas on the beach to best serve their guests.

So much more than just a B&B...BOOK HERE NOW!!

My wife and I stayed here based on the recommendation of numerous friends in Meixco City that travel regularly to Isla Holbox. We were told it was the place for 'those in the know' - personally I was a little dubious given that it was referenced as a B&B and some of the photos I saw suggested it might be a little dated...I couldn't have been more wrong! Ignore pretty much all the photos you see on here (they're old!), Casa Iguana has been given a full and modern make over and the rooms are better than many 4/5* hotels I have stayed in - granted there are no TVs etc. but this is an 'eco-resort' on what is essentially a desert island. Why on earth would you want to sit inside with the TV on anyway?!?!

Location wise it is perfect. So much so that we met many people from other hotels and hostels that would come to this stretch of beach each day to relax under Casa Iguanas cabanas and order from their beach service menu (the marlin and mango tostadas washed down by a cold daiquiri are not to be missed!). Plus it's only a very short walk into the town or to the beach club - unlike guests at other hotels we didn't need to bother with any taxis at all. Though we did rent bikes and our own golf cart just for the hell of it (direct from the main reception).

The biggest surprise was probably the quality of the food. We simply could not understand why the restaurant wasn't packed everyday as it was honestly better than just about everywhere else we ate on the island, and incredibly well priced. The majority of restaurant guests were either staying at Iguana or appeared to be Mexican, which is always a good sign that the food the real deal!

My wife and I genuinely loved Casa Iguana and the fact that it has inspired me to pen my first TripAdvisor review is testament to that. Book now or at the very least make sure you add their restaurant to your list.

Word to the team: add an English webpage option, update any old photos with how it now looks and promote your restaurant better - you are soooo much better than you give yourselves credit for.

I was there with friends and absolutely loooooved it! The room is modern, with all comodities and stunning views of the breathtaking ocean! Bedsheets are new and bed super comfy!

Service is also a big plus. We checked out and we wanted to stay all day enjoying paradise, so the lady at reception let us live our bags and even gave us clean towels and shampoo for us to shower before leaving at night.

In addition, I've had the BEST shrimp aguachile I've ever had in my whole life (I lived over 10 years in the Caribbean and I've had many!) I still dream about it... , I ended up ordering two! Also we tried the burger and chilaquiles which were also delicious... Bravo to the young chef!

This place is definitely a great option when visiting Holbox, not only to stay but also to have lunch or dinner. Thank you for all your attentions and we can't wait to be back!!!!!!!
