Casa Mario Lupo is an ideal mix of opposites in several ways: The Athena & Zeus room where we stayed felt like a real home, with a eat-in kitchen and private balcony where we could hear the sounds of Italian families preparing meals in other apartments around the courtyard—but it also had the advantages of a hotel, with an excellent breakfast served in the beautiful garden on the third floor and the solicitous attention of Gianmauro. As a host, Gianmauro is also an excellent blend of deep knowledge about his native city and help with practical matters. The house itself is a blend of untouched originals like the frescoes on the ceiling and modern conveniences like the modern bathroom and excellent wifi. The location is also the mix we wanted: mere steps from the main piazza, but quiet tranquility once you retreat behind the house gates. The church bells start at 7:30 in the morning, which is when we wanted to be up and taking advantage of every moment in such a beautiful place, and stopped well before bedtime. Gianmauro directed us to some of the Bergamo beauties we’d have missed if we’d only followed our guide books and his recommendations for restaurants were just what we wanted. We took advantage of the kitchen one night to enjoy a picnic we’d picked up from the wonderful shops on the main street. We particularly enjoyed a place that sells Sicilian street food. Since it was unusually hot, even for July, we appreciated the large fan which kept us very comfortable at night. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Cozy and central in Bergamo

I've been there for 1 night and it was a very nice experience. The room "Atena e Zeus" at the first floor is big, clean and with a very nice and useful balcony. The house is a historical one and very well refurbished, you can see this from many details that have been kept visible. The owner was really very helpful, as I had to take a taxi very early in the morning, which was perfectly organized. The house is in the center of Bergamo Alta - the old city - and everything is at a few minutes walk. I suggest anybody going to Bergamo to try this location.

First....please see cut and pasted review below from our last stay in October 2016....

Back in Bergamo again this summer....and of course, back to stay with Gianmauro at Casa Mario Lupo.

This time we we stayed for almost 3 WEEKS.....and needless to say it was more like an apartment for us than a hotel or bed and breakfast this time around. That schedule requires a different kind of arrangement... and a different kind of service as our requirements and requests were different than last time and a 3 DAY stay.

Gianmauro was fantastic again....picking us up at train station, helping us with grocery shopping ideas, helping us with laundry cards, even helping guide us through some Italian Citizenship documents/processes....that was truly the work of a friend, not a landlord or inn keeper.

I cannot say enough and if I could give 10 Stars I would....thanks again Gianmauro. Maybe see you again later this summer!

Fabulous location in "Citta Alta" Bergamo…superior personal service
Gianmauro…the owner/manager… was far and above the BEST hotel property manager we have ever experienced in our many travels to Italy/Europe.

Put simply….he treated us like we were family and guests in his own house, because he owns the property and manages all the daily details and he takes your stay at Casa Mario Lupo very "personal."

From directions around town…..key sights to see and visit….best restaurants in town...he was always available to make suggestions. He even offered to take us to the train station in his personal vehicle on our way out.

From personal/custom breakfast menu served BY HIM to our room every morning….to access to his rooftop terrace/garden for wine and cheese in the evening…Gianmauro was amazing. HIGHLY recommended!

A jewel in the center of bergamo

The Mario Lupo's house it's a very beautiful place completely ronovated but keeping all the good and cozy style of the city. The location it's perfect, walking distance from every important place of the city. The designe of the house makes you feel like you're at home and very welcomed.
I had a great time staying there and plus all that, the owner it's a great host. He told us all the important information to know about places of interest and good restaurants.
Bergamo it's a very special and beautiful town to visit. Totally recomendable !

Our host Gianmauro could not have been kinder or more helpful when, due to illness, we had to postpone our trip several times. And when we finally made it he picked us up from the airport and the following day drove us to Milan Linate. It made our whole trip much easier. Thank you again, Gianmauro!
