What People are saying

Fine, but nothing special

tvnewseditoron 28/08/2017 04:56

My husband and I stayed here for one night as part of a weeklong drive in the South of France. We booked a comfort double room w/terrace for $145/night at the height of the summer travel season.

We chose to stay in Hyeres simply as a way to break up our 4.5 hour drive after a full day of sightseeing at the Gorges du Verdon and our ultimate destination at Marseille. In hindsight, we probably should have simply pushed through and had a late arrival in Marseille instead.

The grounds of the hotel are expansive and suggest that this hotel/casino used to be The Place to be. Sadly, that does not appear to be the case anymore, as the exterior gives off a blend of attractive and abandoned vibe. The interior lobby looks like what you'd expect from a small casino in old town Vegas (Fremont Street). The hotel isn't really located in an area that you would stroll through for touristic purposes so plan on driving wherever you want to go from here.

Our check-in started off with us arriving late at night, having trouble finding the entrance of the hotel, and then realizing that we needed to approach the speaker box of a controlled-access entrance to get to the hotel entrance. My French skills are ok, but it's amazing how difficult it is to understand a foreign language through a speaker box. Fortunately, we were able to communicate that we were arriving to check in to the hotel and they raised the barrier. There were no signs indicating which way to hotel reception so we circled the building twice trying to determine whether the casino entrance was the appropriate entrance for hotel guests (it was). There was no evidence of parking in front of the hotel and we learned upon checkin that there was a parking garage on the grounds - but after my husband parked in it, he wasn't sure how to get out to get back to the hotel. He ended up in a dark alley-like corridor which led to the front of the hotel. It turns out there were garage elevators that would have led more directly to the hotel but my husband either missed the sign or it wasn't well-signposted.

The hotel front desk was a small area at the entrance to the casino and they processed our check-in quickly and professionally. When we were handed our room key (room 201), the staffer told us that we should take the elevator to the 1st floor, not the second floor. No joke. Our room was on the first floor despite it starting with the number 2.

The room, although spacious with plentiful closet space, smelled of cigarette smoke immediately upon entry - we had booked a non-smoking room and there was a no smoking sign on the door. We were so exhausted, though, that we didn't notify the front desk and merely climbed into bed to go to sleep. The bed was fairly large and seemed more like a king than a double, which was nice. The décor was fine, but nothing special. The carpet has definitely seen better days and was extremely faded, particularly in the area where the balcony doors allow sunlight to flood into the room.

Because we had arrived at the hotel in darkness, we didn't really appreciate the grounds or scenery until we woke the next day. The following morning, we discovered that our room had a fantastically large balcony which could easily have accommodated a gathering of a dozen or more people. It also had a table and a chair - strange that there were not two chairs. The balcony was shaped like an L and had a long, skinny peninsula which ran along the side of the hotel as well - I can't imagine that that area would be useful for anything, but I guess it's better than nothing. The view from the balcony was off into the distance toward the coast - I might have been able to see the water, but there was so much wildfire smoke, I'm not sure if I was seeing water or haze.

The a/c in the room struggled to keep the room cool during the heat wave that was moving through the South of France - we could see a wildfire burning in the distance from our hotel so I'm sure that didn't help matters at all. As usual in hotels, there were not enough power outlets and we had to resort to creative solutions with our own adapters and multi-strips to plug our devices in.

Of all the places we stayed during our weeklong road trip, this hotel had the worst/slowest internet. It was challenging to connect to web pages, much less upload or download any photos or other content.

This hotel was passable for a night's sleep, but I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Good visit

Hotel was located close to the old town, but quite a walk from the station. 67 Bus runs from outside station.
Room very nice and balcony was great.
Air con good and bed was massive.
Reception staff cannot speak English.

Tourist in info close by - Not a hotel for families.
If you want to be close to beaches then this is not a hotel for that.

unusual but go for it

A strange mix of old world charm & dated décor but with friendly staff & in a perfect location for the lovely old town area & an easy drive for the connection to airport . Go for the large front rooms with lovely sea views. Another bonus is the easy safe free parking !!

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful town

The hotel is in a beautiful building, just a few minutes walk to the charming old centre of Hyeres. The lady from the reception was very nice and she made us feel really welcome.
The room is spacious with comfortable bed and a big bathroom. The room had a balcony with a view to the old centre. I also appreciated the underground parking.

Taking into account that I got this room with a 40% discount from the reception price, I can say that it was a perfect stay.

Best place to stay in hyeres

I have stayed at this hotel last january with a friend while travelling to heyres on a business trip . A bit expensive but worth the price . Very huge rooms and very well decorated , a bit classic but stylish .very french ! The breakfast was really amazing. Served in the room ,friendly staff and the casino is located just near the reception . Highly recommend if you like gambling . Access to the hotel from the station better to take taxi to make your life easy . Very reasonable price .as for diner joy restaurant is my favorite .they even won Michelin star . To get more inquiries about la ville d hyeres , the tourist information center is located at the heart of the city .bilangual staff awaits you . Enjoy hyeres to the full . Bons vacances
