A slice of Tuscany with a dash of sophistication

We chose to stay at the Castel Monastero as it seemed a centrally located hotel by which to explore Tuscany. Also being two and a half hours from Rome driving was an added bonus.

The hotel itself is beautiful with century old buildings which look straight out of the Medieval era. The adjoining grounds are perfect for long walks, a game of tennis, lazing by the pool or getting pampered at the spa.

The hotel boasts of two restaurants and they do not disappoint....although having a pre set menu for groups of more than 5 was not entirely warranted. We were in a group and would have liked to sit together and order a la carte....unfortunately the hotel rules did not permit that.

The rooms were huge and we were lucky to have a small area of grass outside our rooms. It was an ideal venue in which to take in the Tuscan countryside and superb weather.

The hotel and its services do not come cheap so be prepared for that.

If you can afford it the hotel is a great option in Tuscany.

Relaxing Tuscany

Had the opportunity to spend recently a magic weekend with my family in this beautiful resort. The location is unique...so relaxing and charming...you can smell the tranquility of this ancient monastery in the heart of Tuscany, yet so close to Siena, Florence and even Rome is a couple of hours drive. The rooms were beautifully appointed and with nice tuscan products (Dr.Vranjes from Firenze....loved the Ginger and Lime fragrances!). We had dinner at La Cantina one night and weren't disappointed. The atmosphere was great and the food excellent! Not to mention the wines....of course!!
Our kids enjoyed the different options (although they now eat from the a la carte menu!) and the friendly staff made them comfortable. I don't eat meat (!!!) and particularly enjoyed the vegetarian platter ....really delicious!!
The staff is extremely friendly and gave us great recommendations on places to visit and things to do also for our kids. In fact I highly suggest to visit an Adventure Park (10 mins drive from the Resort) called Saltalbero which the hotel knew very well....our kids loved it and so did we! We even had lunch there and it was great.
The Management is always around ensuring you are having a good time and also gave us great suggestions for dinner and to take our kids horseback riding close by.
What a way to retreat!! Look forward to visiting again soon!

The Best 5-star Deluxe Hotel in the 'Sienese'

Unlike many luxury hotels in Italy the rooms at Castel Monastero are larger than usual and for many foreign travelers, myself included, that is a good thing. Most rooms, and certainly my rooms (I have been here twice) also have bathrooms with both showers and bathtubs. The rooms also meet with my hard-nosed aesthetic criteria - simple and clean lines; space; and very comfortable beds with crisp linens. The location in the 'Sienese' is beautiful and very close to the Siena-Bettolle highway which makes it very easy to reach from Rome, Florence or Pisa. They have a beautiful spa, a well-equipped gym and two swimming pools. The service is excellent; the staff is warm, friendly and eager to please but is sometimes slightly understaffed. Unfortunately that is a problem common to all service industries in Italy because labor taxes are extraordinarily high. The Cantina Restaurant is a gem of traditional Tuscan cooking and is the best restaurant I have experienced in the area. That is quite an achievement in a country with the gastronomical excellence of Italy.

I was also here at the same time as the group that wrote the review entitled "Nice location with mediocre service". The reviewer was part of a group of thirty or more Ferrari drivers that arrived in early evening and then began to drink heavily before moving on to the restaurant to continue drinking, making noise and singing off-tune songs until told to desist by Enzo the hotel manager. Our group was a bit perplexed by these comments since he and all the others would have been too inebriated to know good from bad service. By the way, Enzo, the hotel manager, is one of the reasons to stay at the hotel - he is attentive, makes you feel at home and has a personal elegance that complements that of the hotel.

We stayed her 2 nights for a business conference with over 20 people. Fantastic rooms, beautiful area and the location itself has great character. Very friendly and helpfull staff, great food as well.

Best Hotel in Siena Area

After so much choice in the area we are very happy to have chosen this amazing gem!
The Hotel is about 20 km to Siena in a great quiet hill full of history and amazing decor.
It seems the time has gone back 300 years with the LUXURY touch of a simple but Super Elegant hospitality venue.
Rooms are well appointed , we were staying at the Blu Contrada on the upper level. Very clean with great amenities!
Once you open the wooden windows in the morning is just unreal. Peace at its best
Wonderful Restaurant and bars were the service and food quality is unbeatable ( they even have a 1 star Michelin place).

Spa pool with salty sea water was a great surprise.
What can be improved?
Perhaps only the old Technogym equipment at the gym, pity.
Will go back for sure

Thumbs up to all Staff that after few hours knows exactly what your needs are and nothing but I mean NOTHING is ever trouble. Great service in all areas, very well managed Hotel, will be back without hesitation !
