What People are saying

Two nights alone in a castle

Walter Don 25/03/2016 22:48

I was only staying for 2 nights so I opted for the "comfort suite", as it was only €80 additional per night. I was happy with my choice, as the suite was huge and breathtaking. Two chandeliers, 3 rooms, and a bed so big four people could fit in it. When I checked in, the bell man told me I was the only guest in the castle. Reception actually closes at 7 and gives you a phone number for night emergencies. This led me to realize, while web surfing at midnite, that I was the only human in this large building. It was both fun and unnerving as I imagined I was hearing someone on the stairs or random noises, and speculated about the many ghosts that may reside there. The breakfast room is right in the castle but the dinner restaurants, which were very nice, are actually about a 10-15 minute walk away in the dark. Two TVs in the suite, but I could not find a single channel in english. The castle is a virtual museum, and I walked through many, many rooms without seeing another person, and there were beautiful pictures in giant frames, and many things to marvel at. I likewise had the entire grounds to myself. If you wish to go elsewhere, like the night life in the neighboring country of Slovenia (only about 20 minutes away), either have the reception staff call a taxi for you, or if after 7, the staff in the restaurant. Take a card or something with the castle info with you so that a Slovenian taxi driver can bring you home. This place is in the middle of nowhere. All in all, this will be an experience you will remember for a long time, and this comes from a very experienced traveler.

September Wedding to remember

dorkiemicheon 19/01/2016 23:01

I was a guest for a beautiful, high-profile, wedding in september 2015. We had a wonderful time at the castle.. it was just gorgeous, really no words can describe it. The food at the restaurant was perfect as well! The rooms were small, but as expected, however not cramped. Would highly recommend a trip here to this beautiful castle.

Get the apartment for families

We stayed with our 3 and 5 year old sons and stayed in their 180 sqm 2 bedroom apartment on the top floor. The location is perfect for exploring the Collio and wine tasting. There is a kitchen in the apartment which is a better option than eating at their restaurants because the service is too slow for small kids. La subida is nearby and both the osteria and posh restaurant are child friendly. La subida also has horses the kids can ride and a pool.

The castle breakfast is fantastic as is the park surrounding it for a walk or to run the kids. The fellow they have doing the breakfast, bags etc could not be nicer and more helpful. My friend stayed in room 4 which was lovely. The guy even offered to drive her to her train.

Definitely take a look at the entertaining rooms which are amazing. Would be an incredible place for a wedding.

Would recommend to anyone.

Only potential issue is that the phone and wifi signals are not that strong inside the building but we found this to be true of the old buildings because the walls are so thick.
