Afternoon tea & bubbly

justineboldon 22/08/2017 10:37

Had a great afternoon tea with a friend, which we booked in at last minute owing to a rainy day scuppering plans for outdoor activities - and enjoyed a range of beautifully presented and tasty dairy free sandwiches and cakes which they helpfully accommodated at short notice. We enjoyed a glass of English rose bubbly from a vineyard in Ledbury - was really nice to see some local English bubbles on the menu - was very dry, delicate but lovely complement to our afternoon tea . We were seated in a relaxed and comfy area with nice sofas, was £52 for both of us so fairly good value too.

Afternoon tea delight

A treat to myself and the ladies, we spent a wonderful afternoon here having afternoon tea. Sat in the garden with a beautiful view and perfect gardens.

High cream tea the cream scones were heavenly and the staff are a credit to castle house, full of knowledge about the building and Herefordshire.

Hard to fault

We stayed on a 2 night package with dinner and breakfast included. On arrival we were told that we had been upgraded to the Charles 2nd suite which was large and luxurious - off to a very good start!
The meals were all to a very high standard, real gourmet food with excellent service. All the staff at the hotel were friendly, helpful and efficient.
Our only niggle would be with the rather sloppy standard of cleaning - my wife dropped an earring which went under the bed and we had trouble finding it in the thick dust there.
However, overall a great experience in a beautifully located hotel. We will certainly be going back sometime.

Beware-No AC, lots of stairs, very hard beds

Advice before you book: know where your room is located and how many steps you have to negotiate, (only the main building has an elevator ), be aware there is no air-conditioning and yes global warming does exist and England Summers are getting warmer and windows have no screens, so expect bugs. The value for the price is just not there
This review is for room 24; located in the adjacent building up one flight of any stairs. The room needs refurbishing after closer inspection however they do try to offer amenities, I assume to offset the price. The bed is hard as a rock, no screens on the windows and no air-conditioning. All the remotes for the TV I assume would have to be replaced, they are dinosaurs. The bathroom has no vent and gets very warm and steamy very quickly. Hotel has decent Internet and offers items such as water and a coffee bar in the room. The biggest problem is if you don't get a good nights sleep what difference does all of that make.
The staff was very friendly and the food was OK. They have a nice garden outback however it needs tending to; I was ready to start picking dead flowers and weeds myself. Unfortunately, until they provide proper rooms that match the price they are asking, especially if we are there in the summer, we will not be returning.

Two nights Birthday stay.My wife and myself.

We were originally allotted a double room in the house adjacent to the main hotel.
Unfortunately we found this room to be claustrophobic and unbearably hot.
My wife did mention this to the receptionist who told us as the hotel was completely booked up there wasn't anything she could do to help, and as far as we were concerned that was that.
Later that evening we received a call from the receptionist ( Bethany ) telling us that as there had been a cancellation in the main hotel i.e. a junior suite no less we could move over right away. Our feet didn't touch the floor and when we moved in a whole new world opened up.From that point to our departure our stay was excellent and faultless.
The staff ( Bethany deserves a special mention), the breakfast, afternoon tea, and the relaxing gardens made our stay a weekend to remember.
All in all very good. The sleep quality it fantastic.Absolute luxury and silent.
