What People are saying

Our Favorite Place

Kevin Kon 09/05/2017 00:37

We just spent the weekend at Castle to celebrate our 3 year anniversary (we also got married at Castle). Ruth and Herb are the best, they are great hosts who make you feel so comfortable during your stay. The staff at Castle is very friendly and helpful with whatever you need. We have always enjoyed our stays at castle over the last 3 years. We can't wait to get to Castle and upon leaving we can't wait to come back. Everything is always perfect from beginning to end. The perfect getaway for us no matter what the occasion is will always be Castle. Thanks Castle for all you do to make every stay memorable.

Charming Get-Away

We visited the week before Tulip Fest. I was looking for a B&B in the area that had luxury amenities with relative privacy, and no hokey rooms crammed into attic crawl spaces, or rooms next-to-the-garage-out-back that I was running into during my searches. I also didn't want to be stuck at a chain hotel with noisy kids groups. I wanted something with a little extra, especially if the weather might be spotty and we'd be in the room more than expected. The location of this quaint Inn is great--easy to find, yet literally in the country--with pastoral views and quiet spaces. Convenient to Holland. I specifically wanted a room with a private full bath, and while we don't normally actually "use" in-room whirlpools, its nice to have the option. I selected the Romeo and Juliet suite because it was in the Castle Keep (the secondary property overlooking the pond) and felt a little more secluded. My first choice was the King Arthur room because it looked a bit more spacious, but it was booked, so I was drawn to the charm of Romeo and Juliet next. Also we tend to select upper-floor rooms. The room was lovely, clean, cozy, with luxury linens and fluffy towels. Bed was comfortable. We had a chance to peek into a couple other rooms, and noted that King Arthur and Sir Lancelot have picturesque views of the pond and woods, and while King Arthur would still be first choice, after seeing Sir Lancelot, I would probably make that my second choice next time--really a striking and spacious room as well. The R & J suite was private, up in the "tree tops" on the "third" floor, so no regrets. We happened to require an after-hours check-in, and the process for that was smooth. Service was efficient--they may even promptly tend to your room while you're at breakfast! Breakfasts were relaxing and comfortable in their attractive dining room. Ruth introduced herself to us--was very congenial and accommodating to a slight food allergy of mine. My husband especially liked the cookies and milk available in their common kitchenette area. Great attention to detail and an overall lovely experience.

The perfect elopement

My fiancé surprised me by proposing and we decided that we wanted to get married quickly and without a lot of fuss! My fiancé was working in the area and after searching online, we decided on Castle in the Country's Enchanting Elopement package for our big day. It was perfect! We arrived the afternoon before, where they went over the plan for our ceremony the next day and we checked into our room.

We were in the Camelot Suite (not my first choice, but what was available on the short notice), which was not in the main house but further back on the property in the "Castle Keep". The room was large, with 2 electric fireplaces (one in the bedroom and one in the bathroom, which was very romantic) and an enormous antique bed. It also had a very nice shower and an extremely large whirlpool which was extremely clean! Our only complaint was that the room was slightly stuffy at times, but this was made better by the room having a separate entrance into a little garden at the front of the building that we could leave open when we wanted.

The morning of the ceremony we had an amazing breakfast of pumpkin pancakes from the hotel! Myself and my bridesmaid drove into town to have our hair done and when we got back they had our ceremony ready and all we had to do was get dressed. Castle had asked lots of questions about what flowers/colors we wanted for the ceremony and they did a beautiful job with my bouquet and my husband's boutonniere - purple roses with eucalyptus leaves. The cake was also stunning with a purple rose on top and lovely buttercream icing (and delicious - seriously if you do this get the buttercream). Castle also provided our minister, who did an amazing job and worked very closely to make sure our vows said exactly what we wanted.

The date of our marriage was in November and they had expected that we might need to have our ceremony indoors, but the weather was so beautiful that morning that they suggested that we have it outside in the gazebo by the pond. We were so glad that we did! The gazebo was beautiful and made great pictures.

We upgraded our package to include professional photography and the guy they had was amazing. He suggested that it was such a lovely day that we could ride the golf cart back to the larger pond for pictures and it was a great time - he was super creative!

It was hands down the best weekend of my life (and I hope my husband agrees lol) and Castle in the Country helped make it perfect!

Just as wonderful as we remember

My wife and I first stayed at Castle in the Country on our honeymoon seven years ago and finally returned for a short getaway from our hectic Chicago lives a few days ago. I can't say enough wonderful things about this place! Ruth met us at the door to check us in and spent about 15 minutes going over features of the room, telling us about everything available on the grounds, and giving us reviews of restaurants and wineries in the area. Between that and the fact that she stopped to chat with us at breakfast every day to ask how our previous day went, she's clearly personally invested in making sure her guests have the best possible stay.

We stayed in the King Arthur Suite on our recent visit and really enjoyed the giant window overlooking the pond and large whirlpool tub. The weather was kind of miserable during our stay, so we were grateful to have such a large, comfortable room to just sit and watch movies in while the rain fell.

Overall, I would be hard-pressed to find any negatives to put in this review. One of my favorite parts of every day was stepping out the door of our room and getting a big whiff of the wonderful breakfasts that Herb was concocting. Thanks to Castle in the Country for a truly relaxing getaway. We can't wait to return!

Peaceful and comfortable

We stayed in the Romeo & Juliet suite. It was a sweet room! The bed was so comfortable. Has a decent whirlpool tub if your are on the shorter side. The fireplace was a nice touch. Breakfast was delicious but personally I prefer to see a couple of choices instead of just one. All in all it was a great place to stay!
