What People are saying

Nice location but not impressed

Pam A on 14/11/2017 05:05

This was our second time staying at this property (previously stayed in March 2017). We chose a bigger chalet and paid the extra money because last time the shower roof was too low to shower in.

I was a bit disappointed this time in the service and cleanliness

Pros
Nice location
Wood burning fire place is awesome
Full kitchen
Fire pit outside - we utilized this one night and it was great.

Cons
Hot tub was not working and I was told it had a crack in it and has not been in service for months. This was a dissapointment because we were looking forward to it. The website should be changed to reflect this and guests should be informed it doesn't work.

Our main blanket had three different stains on it (the one that has a sheet on each side) that weren't from us as they looked like coffee stains or something. I don't think the blankets get washed between guests...

Our cabin was not cleaned everyday. We did have someone come and knock to see if we needed anything (mostly fire wood) and we had run out of toilet paper.

Suggestions to guests staying
Bring body wash and soap for shower as this is not supplied anymore (this was new since our stay in March so I wasn't prepared)

I think this property needs some upgrades done to it as its not worth the price per night.

Very friendly staff but...

On our little getaway this was the most expensive place we stayed, I know we were paying for the rustic aspect which I was okay with. The train does go by frequently, not a huge deal. The horn hounds pretty cool echoing off the mountains.
Now the cons, when we got to our cabin, #13, there was an odd odour once we entered. The shower was too short for my boyfriend and there were tiles in the bathroom that were loose from the grout. We couldn't figure out where or what it was. Late into the night my boyfriend woke me up because he heard a noise, I thought it was the fire logs settling. On the second night we found out that the mysterious noises were actually multiple mice. They were going through our trash, coat pockets and using the registers as highways through the cabin. Later the odour was discovered to be a dead mouse cause there were traps placed in the vents.
When we were checking our I mentioned to the clerk about the mice problem and she just said "Oh, yeah. There's been a problem in 13 for a while now." After having paid 190 a night I was not happy with the quality or cleanliness of the room. I couldn't wait to shower at our other hotel in Calgary later that night.

Great Place to stay if...

You must be a hard sleeper. The train is right next to the chalets and come through about 3 to 4 times a night. I'm a light sleeper but did get used to it by the third night. Clean and easy to get too.

Loved our stay!!

We first stayed at the Castle Mountain Chalets on our honeymoon, 18 years ago, and wanted to return here with our three children! We had a fabulous stay.....the receptionist was very accommodating and gracious… They allowed for us to arrive late, and made us feel very welcome upon arrival! The chalet was cozy and comfortable, and we loved the fire pit/gathering area!! This chalet holds a special place in our hearts!

Nice Place but some con's

Christina B on 03/10/2017 15:30

We stayed at the chalets for 3 days and 2 nights in early September as an anniversary getaway. I originally booked this place since it's further in Banff National Park and a closer drive to some of the trails and things we wanted to do.

PROS:
- Good location to be further in the mountains to make your drive to trails and other sites less of a commute.
- There's nothing around so you don't have to deal with the busy downtown of Banff (if that's what you are looking for)
- Cabin was very clean
- Individual cabin with full kitchen and utensils
- Place has a little general shop that can be convenient for food and other items you may need in a quick bind.
- Cabin has a REAL fireplace, which we love and they stacked fresh wood everyday
- You park right next to your cabin in a spot so loading/unloading is very easy with groceries and luggage

CONS
- Train tracks are RIGHT there and the train literally would come every 1-2 hours and it's extremely loud. I usually don't mind noises but this woke me up every night and I'm a heavy sleeper.
- Old, very dated cabin and furniture. If you like new and modern then you won't care for the decor or look
- The bed was a bit stiff and uncomfortable
- They advertise Wi-Fi but it's non-existent. I can't remember what their speed is but it's literally dial up. This was a HUGE con for us since we are not from the area and visiting from the States. Every night we would use our phones to find trails/directions/addresses for the next day or if we wanted to eat out in Banff, we would like to look up menu's for food before wondering around aimlessly. So, for travelers (which is most people) this was very inconvenient. Since we are from the US we have to pay a lot of extra $$$ if we are not on Wi-Fi to use our data so people outside of Canada will have to pay extra if you don't have an international plan.
- If you don't really want to cook, you have to drive 10-15 minutes into BANFF to eat at a restaurant since there is nothing nearby.
