What People are saying

Dream location

Jane Kon 09/05/2017 02:42

I visited Castle Oaks Hotel for a wedding in late April and I thoroughly enjoyed the hotel, the restaurant/bar and the property. The hotel is located on the banks of the Shannon River and there's a nice walking path that will take you along some incredible scenery. The hotel is a short walk into the town of Castleconnell which offers a pub or two, stores, a Chinese restaurant, a beautiful Catholic Church and more.
The rooms are clean and roomy, especially the courtyard rooms which are very spacious. The Irish breakfasts are delicious and offer a nice assortment of food.

I was especially pleased with the cordial staff throughout my several day stay. Irenee Walsh at the reception desk was particularly helpful prior to and during my stay. If you are looking for a beautiful location that takes you away from the busy-ness of Limerick, this is the hotel for you.

Dirty, old, tired & overpriced

Ro son 02/05/2017 22:59

We arrived to see plaques stating this hotel had won numerous awards for accommodation, food, etc. This in hindsight is laughable.

We stayed in room 401 which is one of the holiday suites separate to the main building. It has two ensuite bedrooms upstairs (one with a balcony overlooking the side of the hotel and road leading to the front of the hotel) and a living room and dining room downstairs.

We arrived at 11pm on Friday night. We were told at this point that the rate we booked was "room only" but that the room we booked should actually include breakfast so the receptionist was confused but friendly and suggested we ask the people working on the desk in the morning. We were charged €11 each for the most overpriced, unappetising breakfast I've ever had.

Our rooms were so dusty, I left my phone down on the bed for 30mins to find it covered in dust. Every surface was dirty.

The decor was so dated, the carpets an ugly dirty brown and the bathroom suites were rusty and old, with leaking taps in both sinks.

The leisure centre looks like it hasn't been cleaned for 30 years. Also be warned you must buy a swimming cap (€3) to wear in the pool, and towels are charged at €1 (although the very kind leisure centre staff waived that for us as the hotel staff didn't mention this).

I phoned hotel reception at 6pm on Saturday for a bucket of ice and some champagne glasses but they said they don't do room service to our room that we'd have to go and pick them up ourselves from the hotel. What I didn't understand is why this was the case. It's a hotel room in a hotel that does offer room service but not to room 401. I believe it may have been because there was a wedding in the hotel.

When we returned to the hotel after sightseeing, there was no space for our car (although the room comes with a parking space right outside the door). This was most likely due to the wedding. It meant I had to park our car at the other side of the hotel.

All of these are not make or break and to be honest we accepted it all. However we were charged a total of €537 for three nights. And that in my opinion is extortionate for what we got.

I would not recommend this hotel, even if you're desperate. Stay elsewhere.

Lovely hotel

Lovely hotel and great base to tour counties Clare and Limerick. We had a lovely view in our room, looking out onto the river. Staff was very attentive esp the manager. Many thanks to all staff. Not too far also from the village which has a few pubs.

Beutiful setting on the Shannon. Good breakfast. Huge family suite.

Soren_C387on 17/04/2017 11:49

The setting with the small manor facing the Shannon convinces. Then entering the (by our arrival) paint-smelling and simply equipped garden suite disappoints. Then again the bedroom upstairs are lovely and the double beds are good. The whole suite must be around 100 m2, so space is plenty.

We were there with three children (10-13 years). The price of 174 Euro/night (April) was fair for the large space and the good breakfast.

Extra bed was defect and first supplied only with a blanket, not a duvet, but both issues were dealt with.

Anniversary night away

We got a free nights accommodation and meal at part of our wedding package. Considering the night was already paid for the hotel went above and beyond, as always. We stayed a Tuesday night so it was quiet so they were only serving bar food in the bar. But they still provided the 3 course menu for us. We had a specially reserved table with a little flower and greeted by staff and everyone knew who we were. Food was delicious. Service was really excellent. Room was immaculate. Top class by the castle oaks as always. Wonderful memories and we were thinking we may make a trip there our anniversary tradition!!! ❤
