Good hotel for a glasgow visit
Vera Lon 31/07/2017 08:48Hotel is an old victorian building but my room was not particularly historic looking. Everything worked, bed is comfy, TV andbath with shower. Location is great for people who want some peace and quiet. Rafiator was dripping all night long though.
Not clean. Needs some attention
Ian Ron 10/06/2017 20:41This hotel is a fantastic building from the outside. However, it really does need an upgrade inside. The room we stayed in was at the top of the building and was very small. It had old wobbly wooden furniture that looked like they had been painted with white emulsion by a five year old. The bed was extremely decrepit and the headboard was stained and wobbly. The walls were scratched all over and in desperate need of paint. The floors in the room and bathroom were not in good condition. The toilet seat was broken. The whole place is simply not clean enough. The parking is not free as described when booking. The Scottish breakfast was reasonable, the mattress on the bed was OK and the pillows were clean and good, but, would 100% never stay in this hotel again. For the same cost you can get a lot better.
Seen Better Days
BonnieEdmontonon 30/05/2017 11:10This hotel has lost its charm and is not good value. It's old, and poorly maintained, needs painting and a thorough cleaning. Small narrow winding stairs to rooms, assistance not always available. The staff were friendly and helpful, but on the second morning, no staff were there to make coffee at breakfast, she eventually showed up 1.5 hours after it should have been available. A lovely gentleman who seems to just come in to help, but is not on staff, assisted with tea and ordered our breakfast for us. Rooms old, bathrooms average at best. Would not recommend at this price.
Cathedral House and Glasgow Cathedral: Two for one
DHirzelon 30/05/2017 05:29This was my second stay at the Cathedral House. I loved it so much the first time, I just had to go back. The rooms are cozy, the atmosphere downstairs in the pub/restaurant congenial and relaxed, the staff friendly and attentive. For me, it was like coming back to old friends.
Downstairs, you start the day with what may be the most memorable cup of coffee you'll ever have. I did. Twice. After breakfast, you just walk across the street and enter the cathedral with the staff the moment they open the doors for the day, and you have the whole place to yourself before the mobs of tourists arrive. It is a truly magical experience.
Then, when the place gets noisy, you can stroll the serenity of the Necropolis, go back to your room to relax, take a fifteen minute walk to the heart of old Glasgow.
If you really must have elegance and elevators, maybe you would be happier staying elsewhere. But I'll be staying here next time I'm in Glasgow.
Great building and location, not good value for money
Electraton 28/05/2017 12:53This hotel is in a great location next to Glasgow Cathedral and hospital. The staff are welcoming and the place is very clean. The rooms, however are tired and the new looking shower was truly awful. The wifi in the room was very weak and patchy. There was some noise from the live music in the pub below but as the walls are so thick it wasn't annoying. I think it is the location that must be pushing up it's prices because compared to other hotels it is not good value for money.
