Anniversary

Visited this hotel on 26th august 2017 for one night on a offer through wowcher upon arrival struggled to work out how to get to the front of the hotel but eventually found it. Check in was smooth enough but when we went into our room I have to be honest and say we did think it was a bit small and quite dark. A good clean was needed as you can see from all the dust in the picture as well as a bit of maintenance as you can see from the paint peeling from the ceiling. It was also quite warm in the room as we had no windows that open. The 3 course evening meal was of good quality although possibly an extra choice of chicken would have been better. Service was a little slow but ok. The next morning breakfast was a totally different story. We arrived at 9ish and had to look for a table as some had been used but not cleaned we found a table of our own accord- there was no welcome from the staff- then eventually a girl came and took our breakfast order. Our food came soon enough however the tea was lukewarm- we didn't even drink it. It was then that it became really busy as people started arriving but as none of the tables were cleared people were just waiting around with no acknowledgement from the staff at all which was really poor- I do think that of the staff had acknowledged and apologised then people wouldn't have got so frustrated- I was seated and felt embarrassed for the people waiting as they were just ignored. To top it all of the 3 staff one was obviously getting frustrated or annoyed whatever you wish to call it as each time another group of people arrived I actually could lip read her swearing which is not acceptable- she was making it so obvious- we started with one word which then lead to further swear words - I did report this to reception on check out- apparently the manager was called up but he obviously had no idea what to do either as he never apologised to anyone either- have no idea what happened after as there was still a queue of people waiting when we left. The location is great for this hotel but the lack of parking and the state of the decor and the service from the restaurant staff would not encourage me to make a return visit unfortunately

Chaos

We just spent 15 minutes waiting to be seated for breakfast, despite there being several empty tables. Nobody seemed to be clearing, and one girl clearly doesn't want to be working as she's just listlessly wandering about. Nice hotel, but for the price they really could do with getting their act together. The only person worth praising is their receptionist, who has been extremely helpful.

Exceptional

What a great hotel! City centre location, reasonable price and free parking were just the start. The friendliest and most welcoming staff throughout our stay just added to the pleasure. The reception area is impressive with marble colums and gran staircase and the rooms fresh, modern and well appointed. There was no bath, but the wet room provided plenty of space and 2 sinks. A comfortable bed, with bedside tables and double sockets at either side. There was a wedding on with loud music, but the room was comoletely silent. Breakfast was decent as well. Of the 4 hotels i have stayed in locally, this is by far the best. Ill be back several times and ill be booking in here.

Dreadful afternoon tea

vlh66on 17/08/2017 23:07

For a retirement treat 15 of us booked afternoon tea, chosen by our retiree friend. Although booking ages ahead we were constantly nagged for deposits which we paid alongside a request for two veggies and for a person who couldn't eat white bread.
On arrival despite there only being two tables amounting to five people nothing was prepared; two circular tables which clearly don't join were hastily thrown together. The tea came in a couple of big tea pots, no choices of tea unless you asked and we constantly had to ask for more tea.
The food came quickly, but how disappointing. When I pointed out we had made dietary requests the waitress didn't seem to understand me, her English was not great. But she eventually pointed out that amongst the sandwiches there were some without meat and some on brown bread. I'm not a fussy veggie but some people are and wouldn't like their food sat against meat.
The veggie option consisted of a couple of cucumber sandwiches and a bland cheese and tomato. Quiches were cut in half, not individual. And for some reason spring rolls.
The cakes were something else. They were all pallid and stodgy; slices of things; nothing interesting, nothing bite Size- just stodgy.
It was so disappointing; the worst afternoon tea I have had; disinterested staff, no atmosphere and over priced. I certainly wouldn't go there again or recommend it. A few weeks earlier I went for an amazing champagne breakfast at Bennetts. Should have gone there!!! Nil points....

Great wowcher deal

Stayed here with the wowcher deal. Room, 3 course dinner , breakfast with a massage.
lovely hotel, right in the centre of the cathedral quarter. parking at the end of the road, very safe and only £11 for the night. the room was ok needed a bit of updating but ok for 1 night. The food was very good and was breakfast, only downside they never had rose wine, I mean come on a nip to the supermarket would rectify this. We had a massage at the hotel and have to say it was amazing. So a very pleasent stay.
