What People are saying

Basic hotel

NikonKingon 30/05/2017 21:33

A clean but pretty average hotel. My room was small, basic and very noisy with people passing on the marble floors outside. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable, sleeping on the floor would have been more comfortable! The bathroom was really small, working my way around the door to get in was an art, if I moved too much in the shower I caught the doors which flew open. Breakfast was poor, I went out on the last two mornings.

The hotel is in a great location just off the main pedestrian high street. Very convenient.

This hotel is ok for a quick nights stay but really nothing special, the pictures don't really represent the reality. See the one I attached the view from my room!

Good location

The reception staff were very helpful and courteous and assisted us with our luggage on our early arrival. The hotel is located in the centre of La Spezia, only about twelve minutes walk from the train station. The room was spacious enough and clean, although in some need of renovation, as some tiles were cracked, wall paper was peeling off and part of the wooden door frame had been repaired with masking tape. The air conditioning unit must have been out of order for quite some time as moisture from it had dampened the ceiling and was leaking on to the floor. This contributed to a very strong stale smell which greeted us every evening on our return. It was not possible to open the windows to get some air circulation as this left no room for privacy, due to rooms facing each other. The breakfast was ample and consisted of boiled and scrambled eggs, some sausages, yoghurt, fruit salad, cold meats and sliced cheeses, cakes, breads, tea and coffee, and juices. Fresh apples were made available for guests at the reception desk. Coffee and tea and biscuits were made available in the room. Reception is on the fifth floor which is on street level, and the bottom floor is also on street level due to the split level landscape in La Spezia. A public elevator is right next to the hotel and takes you from one street level to the other, which is very convenient. If you wish to travel to nearby towns public buses are very close to the hotel and extremely cheap and you might find them preferable, as we did, to other modes of expensive transport, such as taxis, ferries, or private tours. The Cinque Terre is very easily accessible by train from La Spezia as is the beautiful town of Porto Venere.

Good value for a Cinque Terre base

PJL1952on 18/04/2017 13:14

We chose to stay in La Spezia as a base for Cinque Terre It's a large harbour town so there are very few tourists compared to the bustle of the five villages and it's very convenient to commute to the villages from the main train station plus it is walking distance to the harbour for the ferry boats to Portovenere. The hotel is in a good location in the heart of the main shopping streets. The room was a good size, comfortable beds and modern décor. Breakfast was included and the buffet had plenty of choice, although the breakfast room was a little bit clinical and could be decorated better. The staff at the hotel were excellent and very helpful and spoke excellent English. All in all, we found the CDH to be great value, good location, and very comfortable.

Nice hotel Quiet location Close to everything

We stayed here for 2 nights . The hotel is within walking distance to the train station and town. We used this as our base point for visiting Cinque Terre. It was perfect. Friendly staff, modern amenities, great breakfast and happy hour! The bartender Andrea was super friendly and also greeted us in the morning for breakfast. We really loved it. They recommended a fantastic local dinner spot too. Great place!

Between a three and four star hotel

The greater part of the hotel is located below street level, Our room had a view of a graffity strewned stair case. The room was OK but the TV was the size of an old small computer screen. On a minor note, the room does not provide a non-disturbance sign.
Best to ask for a room above street level ( 6th or 7th floor) facing the street.
The breakfast room is not going to win any design awards but the buffet was good and varied.
We stayed at this hotel as a start-off point to Porto Venere. The City of La Spezia really has nothing of any special interest to offer. Moreover, there are a lot of young male adult groups, and very few local women, roaming the streets. As such, I would not recommend this city to single women traveling on their own. Also, the hotel does not provide any room service.
