Great Blast from the past

Sheldon Jon 28/05/2017 23:17

My wife and I stayed here 3 nights and loved it. Our room was over the what we think was the old coach house. It can be a bit spooky getting to your room at night but we loved the sense of adventure. The rooms are very nice with a plush bed and rain forest shower. The arched ceilings of the place are artfully some showing the original wooden beams complete with the original wooden nail pegs holding it all together. We really liked our room.

The grounds are gorgeous and worth the effort of walking around and exploring the entire place.

Also, you should walk through the interior of the main building and check out all the antiques and furnishings. Sit in one of the lounging areas and read a book or just sit and take in the decadent majesty of the place.

The staff (with the exception of the snooty old crone in the gift shop) is very friendly and wonderful as most speak multiple languages and are happy to seamlessly switch from one to another.

The price is well worth a stay in palace that's lovely restored and representative of 500 years of French history.

Loved it!! I'll comeback and add my pics if I can later

Looks decadent but doesn't deliver....

Renovated or not, a stable is a stable. The grounds here and the chateau are truly lovely and I'm sure it would be wonderful to visit in late summer when you could sample some of the 650 varieties of tomato. But the treacherous dirty stairs to the rooms in the converted stable, the dangerously low beams, the old bathtubs (more danger for older folks), and the inadequate lighting left me feeling very disappointed. But the dinner was the biggest disappointment ...totally tasteless...I could not identify most of what I was eating - except for the pot de creme. The wine by the glass was dreadful at 6 euros; a gin and tonic was 10 euros. What a rip!

Wonderful experience

We really enjoyed our stay at Chateau de la Bourdaisiere. We stayed in the main chateau building in a room that had two rooms and two bathrooms. There was a small elevator so we did not have to carry our bags up the stairs. Our room had a lovely view of the gardens. We visited in the spring and did not have any issues with room temperature. The shower in our room was great - clean with a rain shower head and great water pressure. The wifi in our room worked well, though it was frustrating to have to reconnect every four hours.

There is definitely an old feel in the chateau and rooms but that should be expected - it's old and is part of the charm! Despite this, our room was very clean. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner in the dining room. There is a limited menu but once again, that added to the experience and the food was great. There is also a nice study guests can relax in. All staff were friendly. Grounds were lovely. A different experience than a typical hotel but I certainly recommend it!

This place was beautiful, we had car problem and didn't arrive at the hotel til 2:00 am. They called me and gave me instructions how to check in. The service was excellent. Highly recommend it, if we will return to the Loire Valley definitely will stay at this place.

Disappointing experience - not what we expected

We visited the Loire Valley with friends, and spent the night near Amboise at the Chateau de la Bourdaisiere.
Disappointing experience overall, we do not recommend this place if you are hoping to get a true "French château" night stay experience.
We had reserved three rooms in advance based on the pictures on the website.
First of all, although the rooms are available for reservations on the castle website at a discounted price of $108, we were charged a full price of $135 per room.
However when we arrived, the rooms didn't look even remotely like the pictures advertised on the booking and reservations website.
The walls are covered in wallpaper which is coming apart at seams, the fireplaces from the rooms are closed up with ugly panels and don't either work or provide for a pleasant viewing experience.
The carpet in my room was dirty and there was a musty smell throughout.
My room was called "Madame B" in remembrance of a medieval character; she must have been a sad person to inspire such a dreary room.
The bathroom is inside the room itself, a space cut out inside the room, there are windows so you can see inside your own bathroom as you lay in your bed.
Definitely not what one would expect of their night stay at a "French chateau".....
