What People are saying

A great place to say a few days!

cowattson 10/08/2017 20:38

We spent two weeks touring the Loire Valley and the Chateau de Marcay was one of the highlights. We really enjoyed the whole package from the location set in rolling hills to the Chateau which is an impressive building. We had the room at the top of the left tower and apart from the fabulous bathroom in the tower, the room was perfect. We had two excellent meals on the terrace which is a spectacular setting. We found the hotel staff friendly and attentive, particularly the desk staff. Finally, just to round it off the pool is spectacular. If you can stay in the Castle rooms which are worth the extra cost.

Dinner is great, otherwise avarage stay

The dinner was excellent and service very good.
Our room was located in annex. The room was clean and ok size.
There is a nice size pool in the garden.

The weather was not so good during the day, so we visited the bar during the afternoon. The bar service was a bit slow and we had to walk to the reception to ask them to find the bartender everytime we wanted to place an order. We booked also the wine cellar tour. That was not what we expected - short round in the cellar where we just heard which wines they have stored there. No introduction to wine making process or specialities from the area. The tour was given by person who didn't speak English, so we had very hard time to understand. Luckily we have some knowledge of French so we could pick up couple of words here and there. After all, we felt cheated paying for this kind of tour.

A pleasurable experience !

Even though the Chateau is about 10 km away from the city Chinon, there is such a diverse way to enjoy the holiday at & around the Castle.

A great way to wake up, is a dive in the heated outdoor pool, you can play tennis, horse riding, petanque, badminton, French billiards .
Walks in the beautiful, very well kept 15 acre park.
You can have a great wine tasting experience, have lunch on the lawn, rent a bike, visit the vineyards .
The "Table de Marcay has an exquisite cuisine.
We decided on the 6 course menu , the choice of the chef with accompanying wines .
The service was impeccable , and the food was "finger licking " good !

Our compliments for Mme. Mollard and her staf .

The rooms were lovely , bathroom in style , maybe one suggestion is airco for hot days , and mosquito screens . We do understand that that is quit an enormous investment in such a place.

A generous breakfast was served every morning from 7.30 until 10.30 in the Richelieu room. you may also order to go or in your room .
There is wellness possibilities, but with reservations only .

We enjoyed every moment, and can recommend "Chateau Marcay" highly.

Also The Loire Valley , with so many Castles, Abbeys, Fortresses , the vineyards and fields of "Tournesols "
one word
WONDERFUL
Thanks also to Secret Escapes .

Wow WOW WOW WOW! is all i could think and say as we pulled into this amazing Chateau after our 3 hour drive from Paris to this beautiful "little town, in a quiet village." The near by town of Chinon is out of a movie set. I would never have imagined this could be real.

Beware: our navigation took us to the wrong location and we were very confused and lost. However, we asked people on the street which way to go and they were all very knowledgeable and about Chateau Maracy and had great things to say about it.

As we pulled in, we were al in shock! the first glimpse of this Chateau is magical and awesome! We were taken care of very nicely and professionally. The hotel staff is gracious and friendly and kind. They break every "french stereo type."

We were able to check in right away and we had a 2 story cute room with stone walls. The master bedroom was on the top and 2 pull out beds were on the 1st floor. The towels and linens were clean, white, fluffy and much more plush than I expected. The views from our room was magnificent. You could see the beautiful french countryside and French sky for miles. I'm convinced that the sky looks different in France. I need to look this up because I understand it odd it sounds, but really, it looks different than our American sky. it seems lower set and wider.

The Chateau had e-mailed us earlier about reservations at their restaurant and I wish I had booked it. They were completely booked at the restaurant and I now understood why. This remote Chateau had a michilin rated restaurant!!!
Although they were booked, they agreed to provide my kids with a 3 course meal in the Parlour room! The meal was licked clean by my extremely picky and anorexic kids.

We were served by 2-3 waiters in tuxedos in the parlor room of an 11th century Chateau!
1st course was cantaloupe (melon) slices. I swear, it was not your typical melon (lol, as Max Amini says, "I am not your typical Persian girl").
It was the most delicious cantaloupe and I am usually not a fan of the orange melon. Next course was Sea bream with Ratatouille and pasta with the most delicious white light sauce.
Yes, my kids were thrilled to have ratatouille and they ate up veggies for the 1st time and LOVED IT!
All 3 plates were licked clean and the kids sat in anticipation of dessert. Vanilla ice cream. How could vanilla ice cream be any different than all the vanilla ice cream you've ever had? Thats what I thought too! trust me, this WAS different. so freakin good! all the portions were relatively small for American Standards but to was enough. we left very satisfied and not stuffed/gross.

They had turn down service with little chocolates on our pillows.

We woke up to roosters and the beautiful silence of the country. They were able to squeeze my kids in and take them horse back riding. They had a beautiful pool and some outdoor toys and balls you could borrow. My kids loved walking around and petting the horses.

My sister bought back pizza from Chinon for my kids and the hotel restaurant held it for us and then served it to us outside, warm on a beautiful tray! I will never forgot the kindness and grace of the staff and the breathtaking beauty of the Chateau.

Our room lacked hot water so they refunded part of our stay.

Glorious setting

The Chateau is set in peaceful grounds with beautiful views. Two highlights were sitting by the pool watching the swallow swoop down to the water and dining on the terrace. The food is superb, a real treat for an evening meal. The breakfast is enjoyable, although a little over priced for what is on offer. Our room was in the chateau and was large and spacious, as was the bathroom. I would have liked to have seen complimentary towelling slipper and a better grade of toiletries to compliment the level of service offered and price paid. However, it was not an issue for us. Neither was the lack of air conditioning as we were quickly given a fan for the bedroom and as the window was so large, we left it wide open at night, so if was almost like sleeping under the stars! The staff were all quite charming and ready to be of assistance. We would certainly return but not in the height of summer and we would also recommend it to friends.
