What People are saying

A memorable experience!

Mickigirl1310on 09/07/2017 07:40

My husband and I have just had a 4-night stay here in this beautiful chateau. On arrival the owner greeted us in the most friendly and welcoming manner possible. Francois is a born host, and loves interacting with the guests, which is really lovely. He is a considerate and gracious host, and for me, made the stay that bit more special.
We had originally booked their standard room on the internet, which Francois told us on arrival was too small for us....he was right, and we were moved to his grandfather's old room, which not only was a fantastic sized room, but also had the most comfortable bed imaginable! This cost us quite a bit more per night, but for us was worth it. The bathroom too was fine, with a good shower, but with a tiny loo, which with the door closed was a bit claustrophobic! But look, guests have to remember that this is a very old chateau, and we are not in a hotel, but rather staying in a family home, and with that in mind, one can overlook the occasional foible. Yes there are a lot of antiques around, and private family possessions too, but for me that added to the charm of the place.....and it does have charm in bucket loads!!!
If I have a little gripe at all it is that we were not given a choice of main courses for dinner. Out of the three dinners that we had at the Chateau, for two of the meals I loved the starter and pudding but didn't much care for the main courses. On our last dinner though the meal was fabulous....so for anyone eating here it's going to be a bit hit and miss, as if you are serving a set menu without a choice, you cannot please all of the guests all of the time. I didn't mind it for three dinners, (we are ex-boarding school anyway!!) but if guests are being charged, then I feel it is fair to offer a choice. What they could do is get guests to order their main courses, say out of a choice of two, the night before, by filling out a form, and then the kitchen will know exactly how to cater. I think that would be a sensible option. However I must emphasise that no guest has to eat dinner in the Chateau....one can motor off to a local village, and try to find a local eatery, which we didn't do, because in reality it is easier to take the path of least resistance and eat at the Chateau.
But all in all for us this was a memorable few days, and the thing that will stay in my mind for a long time, is drinks outside in the evenings, with fellow convivial guests, chatting to our Host, and making new friends. That was the most magical experience for me. It very much had the feel of a Country House weekend party!
Finally I must mention the really fabulous breakfasts. One of the best breakfast buffets I have EVER had in France. There are too many numerous delicacies to mention individually, but Francois's homemade yogurt is utterly historic!
Would we return? Yes we would, (and did as the chateau/hotel we had booked to stay in after this one was so ghastly, we returned here for our last night of the holiday!) and would recommend staying here too, but guests have to enter into the spirit of the place to get the benefit of the full chateau experience!

What an extraordinary visit!! Francois and his staff treated us like royalty. Our meals in the chateau were delicious and breakfasts a treat. Such a beautiful location. Be sure to take time for a bike ride in the countryside and smell the roses, and a dip in the pool. Merci Francois!

The perfect weekend break

From the moment we turned up the long driveway we knew we had picked the right place to stay. The Chateau and it's surrounding grounds is beautiful . Francois is a charming host and will do his best to accommodate your every need . The rooms are beautifully appointed in a manner to suit their surroundings and the evening meal , prepared by his wife a perfect way to round off a day . The whole stay had a wonderful relaxed family feel to it.

All the things were excelent: location, stuff, cleaning.

I want to thanks Mr de Valbray and his wife for the wonderful atmosphere created at the castle. It was a very intersting holliday, you can enjoy the peaceful countryside life in a special location full of history.

Beautiful grounds and many amenities for families to enjoy. Our room was in the Orangerie and it had great ugh there is internet it was quite weak where we were lodged.

Since this is a hosted house and not a full fledged hotel, the meal serve is what the family eats. They were most accommodating to give me rice and ratatouille since I don't eat meat. Not a gastronomic feast, but nice nevertheless. Breakfast was ok. The homemade yogurt is delicious.

Overall the place is fine but it needs more care as it was dusty.

The best about this is thee garden!
