What People are saying

Worst hotel I have stayed in.

S4mB28on 08/08/2017 12:05

We approached the hotel, after having walked around the building from the rear car park. A car park that only two spaces means you are not blocked in!
The doors were locked, so we rang the bell.
After standing outside the front door, bags in hands, the proprietor answered the door and because we were both looking for alternative means of entrance, he was stood in the doorway with his hands outstretched as if to say 'well come on then!'
The old, musty smell hit up immediately!
The proprietor quickly ran through the key, checkout and breakfast time, and directed us to our room.
We to were told that he had already taken payment from my card, as he was expecting a busy morning the following day! And handed me the receipt.
I asked if I could book a taxi, to which I was told 'take a picture of these and ring round'. Helpful!
Our room was secured with the oldest lock in the world!
We opened our door and the smell...... well..... needless to say the windows were opened immediately..... for us to then hear the heavy passing traffic noise outside on the main road!
The decor was certainly never updated in the last 30yrs! Very dated.
We had tea/coffee making facilities...... but I refused to use them at the risk of contracting some incurable illness.
We entered the en suite..... toilet, sink and bath! Who wants a bath on an overnight stay?!?!
On returning from our day out..... the room still smelt, but the window had to be closed due to traffic noise.
The most uncomfortable bed/pillows in the WORLD! Needless to say, neither of us slept.
And got up in the morning both complaining of neck and back pain! I just wanted to go home.
Both myself and my husband didn't want to chance the breakfast, so was up and out of the hotel by 8am. We couldn't wait to get home and get showered.
Very disappointing night away from home.
For REWIND goers...... it was £20 in a taxi....... if you dare chance staying here.

Watch out when you leave your payment details to reserve a room!

On arrival whilst parking our car we were confronted by the owner - Terry I think - he didn't explain who he was or introduce himself in any way. His first words to us were "What I need you to do is park there!" Speaking to me like a naughty child and pointing his finger at me. When I explained that we had a taxi ordered and would need access the boot of the car to move belongings into the taxi we were told that we could leave my suitcase outside in the car park until the taxi arrived!
Rooms were very basic - no basin in the bathroom, just a toilet and very small shower with the basin in the bedroom. Decor is dingy and outdated and breakfast just acceptable.
Our greatest concern was that when we tried to pay by cash we were told that the payment had just been taken from our debit card that we had used to reserve the booking. The excuse was as they were expecting a busy breakfast service and they thought it would save time. When we checked the receipt it was dated two days before we had even arrived! Payment should be taken on leaving - not before you even arrive!
We would not stay here again !

In need of an update but great in every other way

I booked at the last minute and it was easy to find. On arrival I was greeted warmly and informed I had room 13. I asked if they had a room at the back as I'm a poor sleeper and it's on a busy road. There was no issue with changing my room and they upgraded me to a double too. The room, although a bit tired and outdated, was warm, clean, and comfy. It was pretty much silent in there during the night. The shower was excellent, powerful and warm, and the bed was comfy. The toilet did have a little issue with the flushing not working 100% of the time though. I had poached eggs on toast for breakfast and this was delicious. Small downside was no decaf coffee and the sauces and things were all budget brands. Checkout was simple and easy. I would stay here again if I needed to come back to Macc. The friendliness of the owners and the quiet comfiness was a total winner for me

Stay here at your peril

We booked in for one night.mhotel owner not there to meet us. We picked up key from outside. Room was disgraceful. Filthy dirty rusting old fashioned cistern soap dish rusty falling from wall. Floor falling away from skirting board leaving a two inch gap. No wash hand basin in toilet,/ shower room. A small bar of soap left on the floor next to plastic shower. Shower head blocked up. Bed cover dirty. Carpet tacky. Dust on all fittings and in cupboards. Milk pots stuck to tray., so don't know how long they had been there. Scorch marks up the wardrobe side, magazines two years out of date. Hotel owner only spoke to me over the phone. Very aggressive threatened me with solicitor and would not give a refund. We walked out and would not stay. We couldn't stay there. Hotel owner argued about check in time, still over the telephone. His website said 2pm he said 3 pm even though I had previously arranged to be there by 2pm. His website also said the hotel had been refurbished to a high standard it had not. The rom we stayed in had not been decorated for a very long time. Free wifi was offered but could not access it. The worst experience I have ever had in all my years of travel.

don't bother

howiejones26on 09/10/2016 21:03

very dated room, dated decor and old-style furniture, mattress was the worst thing so I had a terrible nights sleep, aswell as the road noise being an added distraction. Parking was very limited. Breakfast was average. Few redeeming features - so my advice, don't bother.
