What People are saying

Very nice apartment in a clean and well located block.

226joon 03/04/2017 09:39

We thought that Chalet L'Ours Brun, was a great experience. The chalet as a whole is clean with an excellent boot and ski locker room with heated lockers operating on your apartment key card. The front hall is spacious with a couple of sofas hence brilliant for gathering groups pre and post skiing. Its not an enormous block at all like most others in 2000 so its feels cosy.
Our apartment itself was on the second floor and was clean and tidy when we arrived. There were plenty of towels, with extras for the swimming pool (which is in the neighbouring block and you can get to by walking outside or down to the basement and through the underground car park if its wet and cold).
The arrangement of bedrooms meant that despite having 12 of us we did not feel like we were on top of each other at all. Every room had a nice view and a bathroom. There are plenty of hanging hooks and the beds were comfortable.
Our host for the week was Emma. She was wonderfully smiley, efficient and very accommodating towards kids meal times and the food was great.
Only criticisms could be that there is not much space in the bedrooms and we could have had a few more glasses but we came to ski not sit about!
All in all it was a great place to stay, made excellent by the fact that a very good ski hire shop is on the ground floor and you only have to walk down a gentle 100m down the road to get a short button lift up to Place d'Olympic for main meeting point for lessons and start the day, and you can ski back down next to that same button to get back. There is a small super marche between the button and the Chalet.
A brilliant place and location, would highly recommend it.

Family holiday

PeeMac27on 02/04/2017 22:28

We were a mixed age group of 16 family and friends. Having read previous reviews I expected the rooms to be small which they were..we were staying in chalet 20 on the second floor. We did not experience the noise mentioned by other guests. Nor did we have any issues with the Wi-Fi...both my children were streaming from Netflix. We had some issues mostly the cleanliness of the chalet.
We did go to the swimming pool which was great although there are no cubicals for changing in a mixed changing room.

Do not book here. 5* my a$$

Rob Gon 08/03/2017 21:17

We arrived on Sunday the 26th of February at around 7pm. Staff were very helpful and directed us to our chalet l'ours Brun. That's we're the niceties end. Having read the reviews before coming I was prepared to give the place the benefit of the doubt. However our fears were soon revealed as soon as we walked in. There were 12 of us staying in this supposed 5* chalet. 6 adults and 6 children, doubled up into 6 rooms. There was a pile of ashes from the fire place sitting on the carpet. It was there for a few hours before the host hoovered it up, but left most of it behind. The kitchen floor was filthy and had food and stains on it left from a meal made earlier in the day as our first meal had not been prepared yet.
In my room there was a crack in the wall which seams to have leaked and stained the wall, mould spots on the bed sheets, and holes in the quilt covers from what I can only belive were cigarette burns. Pubic hair in the bed and bath, faeces staining on the toilet seat and In the toilet and Our hand towel was filthy, as though it has been used on the floor. This is only from one room.
Our children's bedroom was no better. The plug socket was hanging out of the wall with live wires exposed, which we notified our host immediately but was not fixed until day 5.
Our friends bedroom had dirty towels and the bedding was extremely filthy that they had to strip 3 beds, both in their room and 1 in their children's room. They slept the first night without linen.
In another room a bed needed to be stripped as the quilt cover had brown stains over it, and my friends were not willing for their son to sleep in a dirty bed.

Upon sitting down for our evening meal, we noticed that the cutlery and crockery was in a disgusting state and needed washing again. The cups and glasses were all filthy, and had not been washed properly. We pointed this out to our host who told us the dish washer was on the blink but maintenance were aware of it! After the host had left for the evening, we looked at the rest of the cutlery, crockery, cups and glasses in the cupboard and had to wash each piece individually by hand as they were all dirty with food stains from the dishwasher. This was a common theme through out our stay. We had notified, the rep, manager and host on several occasions regarding the cleanliness of the dishes and chalet. The manager did come in on the Wednesday and give the place a spruce on the hosts day off. The table was a disgrace with grime In the groves which I accidentally stumbled upon when rubbing my bottle top on the table.
The light fittings in the lounge area had bare wires hanging from the ceiling one of them had a bare earth wire, so whether that was safe is a mystery to me, so we notified our host and rep, however nothing was done about that.

The most worrying part was when a hair dryer started to smolder and the plastic melting on it's own in the children's bathroom when we were having a tea break from skiing one afternoon. Smoke bellowed out of the kids bedroom and didn't even set the smoke alarm off, nor trip the electric. Had that happened in the night with the kids in the bedroom sleeping, this could have been a totally different story. We switched the electric off, opened all the doors and windows to let the toxic fumes out. In fairness the maintenance guy came round within half an hour and cut the supply to the bathroom immediately and the hair dryer was replaced that evening. Questions have to be raised regarding how often are these electrical items are tested as they are all pretty dated.

This made the rest of our stay very nervy as to what could go wrong next. This whole experience ruined our holiday from start to finish. We were dreading coming back after a wonderful day skiing as Les Arcs has so much to offer.
This is our second stay in Les Arcs, perhaps we expected too much after we were spoilt by Ski Beat in 2016. As a party of 22 travelling, the other 10 guests staying in the chalet below, we wanted to place everyone close to the slopes and close to each other. We would not recommend Ski Total or Ski Solutions who we booked with to anyone. We paid a lot of money for this holiday and are extremely disappointed and angry with the chalet. I wouldn't give this a 2* rating let alone 5*.

Not a great place to stay and poor service from Crystal reps

DDARon 19/02/2017 15:48

As a family of 5 we were dumped by the Crystal Reps at the nearby Chalet Allitude at about midnight and were told to make our own way to the Chalet de l'ours where our bags had been dropped. We were allocated room 1 next to the entrance and unmanned reception. On entering the chalet one of the bedrooms had no working lights so I had to the use the touch on my smart phone. I went to find a rep to help but they had all left and no one was around in the main Chalet Allitude. They did quickly resolve the following day after I complained at the Chalet Allitude reception and sorted out the faulty door entry key, WiFi doesn't work in this chalet or chalet allitude; I asked them to sort it out on two occassions but it appears beyond their capabilty. To use WiFi I had to go to the nearby Whistlers bar which is a great bar and has good atomsphere; most of the reps can be found here in the evening. The worst thing about this Chalet L'Ours and certainly staying in room 1 is the noise; on the first night there was party going on until 3am next door and the following nights you were woken by returning drunks and if that wasn't bad enough loud knocking or rattling noises would start at about 6:30 to 7am; no idea what that was; some kind machinery; lift or workman dragging something across the floor above. Without sounding too negative the appartment was clean on arrival and has a Alpine feel about it, I just wouldn't choose to stay here again. The Ski shop next door were excellent and friendly and the Ski lockers were easily located. The Skiing itself was excellent; we were lucky with the weather and in my opinion as a novice Skier the slopes were perfect; mainly wide blue runs; good reds and some tricky blacks for the better Skiers. On another note it took nearly 6 hours on the bus back to Geneve airport; the traffic was absolutely horrendous; it was the end of school holidays and we were warned we had to leave earlier because of expected traffic. The bus driver stopped off at some crazily busy services for 30 mins were you couldn't use the facilities because of massive queues; everyone was lined up against the bushes; even women as the toilet queues were massive; total joke. We nearly missed the flight and had mins to spare at checkin. Be aware if you are traveling during France and UK half terms

Fantastic chalet staff, hit and miss food, weak management

Nigel Eon 04/01/2017 14:10

We stayed as a group of 13 over xmas. The chalet staff had only received two weeks training and had one weeks experience. The staff attitude was excellent, esp Gabi, who tried everything she could to ensure we had a good holiday. The chalet is let down by poor maintenance, eg fire did not work, wi fi did not work, poor decoration and a tiny kitchen and tiny sauna. The location is 5 mins walk to the bottom of a button lift and so you are at the gondola within 10 mins which is ideal. The village of les arc 2000 is weird, difficult to navigate and has no charm. At least there is a gondola that is open until midnight to take you to les arc 1950, which is like a Disney land Ski resort. The contrast could not be greater. The boot room is large enough but has insufficient benches to put your boots on. There is a very helpful ski shop on the ground floor. We had to complain on multi occasions about consistent errors but the supervisors and resort manager from Total Ski/ Inghams failed to properly address any of our concerns. Dont use the real fire as the flute is broken and we had a room full of smoke and nearly had a fire. If you need wi fi go to Woodie Bar in 1950.
